This was the best, easiest, and more productive surgery I've ever had in my entire life. Not only was it quick and totally painless, but the doc inserted a PRESCRIPTION LENS that completely fixed my extreme nearsightedness, allowing me to throw away my "coke bottle" glasses, forever. What a blessing.
In 2018 at the age of 65 I was told that I had Cataracts. I had been told prior to that diagnoses that I had the beginnings of cataracts going back to my mid fifties. I was nearsighted and wore glasses since I was a young teen, and had worn contacts since 2007. I really believe that I had no issues with my eyesight and read and drove without difficulties. Had the first surgery on the 15th of November 2018. Remember the ENTIRE procedure from sign in to being driven home. On my return home and with all the drops and instructions. As the meds wore off I began to have a crushing headache, like I have NEVER had before. Could not lay down, or sit as the intense pain just would not stop. I could only stand and at my fireplace mantle with my head in my arms and suffer as the pain subsided over the course of several hours. I called the doctor and was told to take Tylenol. Didn't help a bit. When I went in for my follow up a few days later I explained the event and it was just blown off. Reluctantly I had the left eye done two weeks later on the 30th of November 2018. The exact same problem and intense pain happened again. At the follow up I again described the problem. Same answer, "sorry for your inconvenience". Since then have had TWO "YAG" procedures and multiple eye exams because of seeing double. Have to wear "Prismatic Lensed" glasses and STILL see double. My vision is worse NOW then before the surgeries. Please enter into this procedure with what I went through and ask and ask again what to expect and if you are NOT given answers that YOU understand talk to other doctors for your own well being. My sight and anyone's is too precious to allow to be lost or misdiagnosed. Many of those things I loved to do (read a book a week, drive, watch tv, play video games) are now a chore not an enjoyment. I will end this comment by saying all doctors and the phacility the procedures were done at are considered the best in the state of Virginia. If you enjoyed this video and already have had the procedure, God bless you if all worked out well. I will always tell my side of what can and will go wrong. Not all surgeries are successful. Why do you fill out so many forms to release a doctor's responsibilities? Think about it.
That all sounds horrible and I’m so sorry you have and are still having such bad effects . They didn’t even check your pressure behind your eyes?? Nothing is right about that. I’m about two months out from having the cataracts plus vision correction and my eyes are still blurring up. Dr. tells me it may take 90 days or longer to completely clear up. Yes I can see everything and I’m so thankful for my vision but I sure hopes the blurring goes away. I hope you get better and you can start enjoying your eyes.
The same thing happened to me, but at least I don't see double, but I went to one YAG session. I have residues of my catarata. Thank God that I have canceled the other eye, and the asked me why. It happened anywhere and I think that maybe the Laser is the one to blame.
Had bilateral cataract surgery 2 years ago. Had an excellent surgeon. Easiest surgery ever! Only took less than 30 minutes & the improvement in vision immediately afterward is awesome!!!! It is like going from seeing the world as a dim, dark cloud to lights ON!!! Everything is clear, bright, & beautiful!!! White is SO white, it almost has a bluish tint to it!!! Anyone who learns they need cataract surgery, DON'T worry or be afraid!!! Be EXCITED!!! Nothing to it!!! usa
Cataract surgery was nothing short of a miracle for me. Had both eyes done about 6 years ago. Went from a life-time of 20/400+ to 20/20. Only use reading glasses for reading out to about 15", everything else is without glasses. Very liberating and has been the best part of getting old for me. I'm now 71½ and loving my new vision.
I was just told recently by my eye care professional that I need cataract surgery.....never had a clue what to expect but after watching this video I was so relieved when I understood the process! I kept thinking all the way through the video that I wish I had this professional person near me doing the procedure!! You put me so at ease and explained it so thoroughly and professionally! My ophthalmologist was from a whole family of them. Huge waiting room in small town office, tons of pts all the time. The doc never checked the lens before inserting it. The bimbo asst gave the wrong one. He offered to redo it. I was grateful I could still see and declined the offer. Good luck to you. Don't book med txs in PA.

I have Macular degeneration in my right eye and dry md in my left eye . My sight in my left eye is good . I still drive ., I have passed the DVLA eye test . My concern is , i have been having injections in my right eye for at least 5 or 6 years , i was told that after the cataract surgery i would be able to drive without glasses , i feel quite baffled by this because i know there is no cure for MD , so how can this be possible ? .
I have never been able to get anything close to my eyes. I can't even get drops in them. However that changed when I had my cataract surgery. It was so simple fast & easy. My Dr. Was very kind & put me at ease slso. I only wish I hadn't waited so long to have it done.

WoW, yeah same here , this thing has been giving me fits for almost a year now & i am or was a truck driver so it is so bad now i can't drive and so i have been looking at different videos n such all this time but yeah this one was excellent , now just gotta get the money up for it
@@debbieharkness4191 I have a friend who had his macular degeneration treated in hospital and then followed by the cataract surgery in one go. But if you are on oxygen you may not be good enough from anesthesia point of view!

Best thing you can ever do. My whole life I wear glasses at 62 I had this done. At that I didn't have to wear glasses anymore and I am 75 now and still going.

My first cataract surgery is scheduled next week, there is no pre-op appointment, types of lenses have not been discussed and until watching YT videos I wasn't aware there were different types of lenses. I had double vision in my right eye even with glasses, I am 58 years old and just had this surgery and my Vision is perfect in my right eye now, don't need glasses for distance anymore but still need readers. Everything is so crisp and clear I am so happy I did this! My left eye used to be my good eye, but I have to wait a while to get it done so it will be covered. , cannot wait to get it done
Hey, peeps, had both my eyes done in 2003...Posterior Subcapsular Cataracts (back of lens)...one in May and the second in December. Nothing to be overly anxious about...when you notice the color spectrum return, you'll be amazed.
Glad for you but remember, the back of your lens now has nothing between it and the vitreous gel of your eye and, God forbid, if you ever have a problem now be sure you choose a very good surgeon because things will now be much more dicey.

I had both Cataracts removed 1Left in 2014 and the other 6-10-19 by the same Doctor... Lam H. Le, M.D. Ophthalmologist at Tripler Army Medical Center on a Copaypayment system of $50 a visit. I had 4. He did an outstanding job in fixing my eyes though VA center. Now everything looks brand new I am really stoked about what he did for me.
I had cataract surgery 2 months ago and it was the scariest thing I've ever done!!! Now I can say I was scared about nothing!! The surgery was a piece of cake. I was totally unaware of anything being done and there was NO PAIN!! It was over in less than 10 minutes. The worse part of the whole event is post op eye drops. 3 times a day, for 3 weeks. They burn just like a lemon being squeezed in your eye, but I wound up with 20/15 vision and I don't need glasses except for writing checks, LOL.
I was not so lucky and the old guy screwed up my left eye. Was very agitated that I had the nerve to question him. I went to another office and found out after 10 months my left eye is way worse than before. So hopefully this will go smoother. Scared, you bet I am. But this time I'll follow her advice. I never did anything that she described. I have a lot of dry eye so will work on correcting the situation.
What did they do to make you unaware of the pain and seeing that they were in your eye? My Medi cal Dr told me I’d be awake and even with my ptsd he did nothing to assure me that I would be OK and not know what was going on. I’m not gonna do it until I absolutely have to
@@girlee0303 Before the surgery, an IV was placed on my arm. When I walked into the surgery and was plugged in. The Dr. told me he was going to start the IV. Seconds later I was OUT. I woke up about 10 minutes later, wide awake, no pain and was placed in a wheelchair and wheeled out to the car. p.s. the sleep was very pleasant.
This lady explains everything so clearly. And she has beautiful eyes that hold your attention all the way though the video. Pity she is not close enough to treat my eyes.
other than tonsils at 10 years old which was horrific ! at 63 easiest surgery in 10 min ,no pain and pleasant results ! No worries just do it !!! Blessing all.

I had Cataract surgery back in 2012, at the VA hospital in Madison Wisconsin. They placed Acrysof lenses in which changed my prescription from near sighted to far sighted and now have very good vision. I would recommend this surgery for anyone who needs it, in my opinion. I only use reading glasses for very fine print, using a computer at about 18 inches or greater without the need for a correction and 20 / 20 vision at a distance. This may not be the case for all patients, but I am very pleased with mine.
I was pretty much resolved to never driving at night again. And daytime driving wasn't that great either. I used glasses to read my computer screen, and to read printed material I augmented the glasses with a magnifier. I was told I needed cataract surgery, and went into it absolutely clueless. I went to the surgical center; they gave me a 'light sedative'; I relaxed and fell asleep. Fiveteen minutes later, the nurse woke me up and said, "Time to go." I said, "What about the surgery?" She said, "You've had it." Never felt a thing. I had the other eye done two weeks later, and suddenly I had perfect vision. Don't need glasses to work on the computer. Driving is no problem. Before the surgery, I hated to drive. Tomorrow we plan to drive about 7 hours through the state looking at the autumn leaves. Pretty cool, huh?
I've had my left eye done last week. It was great. I'm amazed at how well I can see with just one being done. I pray the right one goes just as well. I hope that I can still drive at night. I heard abt the glare. My figures are crossed...😊

I was just told by my eye care doctor that I need cataract surgery. As she explain it to me briefly, i am not going to lie but i immediately got numb. What my eye, removing this(lens) and putting in another lens. Etc .etc. But after watching this very interesting video by this amazing professional doctor. In which she explains it so thorough and precise and easy to comprehend. I'm not as scare any longer. I did wish she would have been the one doing the surgery on me. God Bless. 🙏🤗🙏
I used wrap-around sunglasses for bed instead of taping a plastic shield. I propped myself up with lots of pillows under my arms and around my neck/shoulders/head so I wouldn't put my head into a pillow. I sleep on my side so I was a bit on my side and comfortable.
I just got home from my eye exam for new contacts and was told that I would need to be referred to a local eye surgeon for cataract surgery. Fortunately, I came across this video after watching a couple of laser vs.manual surgery videos. Your explanation of the process, risk, cost, etc. was far superior to everything else I had watched. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this to alleviate my initial shock and fears as a young 52 year old. I wish you all the success in your practice.
That has got to be the best informational sessionis on cataract surgery that I have ever seen and I will be promoting it. My only regret is not finding this video before my own surgery which was done on both eyes two weeks ago today. There were complications including unusually high pressure in the eyeballs which had to be addressed the very next day. Thank you again.
Could you tell me your symptoms and how they were addressed the next day? I was told I might someday have glaucoma but not now. My surgery left me EXTREMELY light sensitive so that I sometimes wear sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat in the house. My first pair of glasses were fine on top for reading road signs while driving, but almost impossible for reading a book or iPad. I was told there’s some protein deposits behind my lenses (causing cloudiness). I thought that took a while to build up? But was told nothing can be done about the protein for six months, The constant focusing and refocusing has stirred up vertigo. My surgery was last month. Was hoping my problems would slowly go away, but not yet.

The most informative video I have watched about this subject. My Dr. told me I need cataract surgery yesterday. Little worried, but know I have to do it. I have had issues with my eyes all my life. Viral infections, causing corneal scars, eyeritis, astigmatism, and now, possibly glaucoma. Hopefully, this surgery will help with some of that. I glad you went over the lens choices, as I am semi retired now, and drive in the early morning hours when it's still dark. Multifocal would not be a good choice for me. I wish you were my Dr., so very thorough, and beautiful too!

This video is outstanding. The lens description is much more detailed than I got at my clinic ("Near vision or far vision - which do you want?") I no longer drive professionally, but I do drive at night a LOT, and I also bike at night and rollerblade at night. The mono lens was what my doctor and I decided on, and after watching this video, I know I made the right choice. Thanks for this extremely helpful description of what to expect!
My dog and husband Both had cataract surgery. The dog received far better care than my husband did! Potential problems clearly explained with the dog. The dog got more medication eye drops to be administered more frequently for a longer period of time and had multiple follow up examinations at Cornell.
I had this surgery a few months ago, it is the best thing I have ever done. now I can see and read everything without glass. so whoever needs this surgery go for it as u will not regret it
Had my surgeries last year. The 1st one was no problem but I remember on the 2nd one I was almost awake and told the surgeon I could see the tool inside my eye as he did the work for a little while. That feeling passed and I woke up in recovery like normal. Everything turned out fine and it took a while to adjust but the difference in my sight was a lot better. You can really tell the difference afterwards.
It amazes me what can be done with the right materials and correct procedures. The creation of the lens that can be rolled into a tube, the incision made to remove the cataract with ultrasound, the unfolding of the new lens.... WOW! I would like to know who was the person that thought all this up! (or group of people). Simply amazing! Thanks for the great video!
I sure appreciate this tutorial on cataract surgery. It has alleviated many of my concerns. The surgeon Dr. Young in this tutorial is great in explaining the surgery and answered my questions which I couldn't get answered by the surgeon I met with several times over the last 6 weeks. I had to replace him with another surgeon and start all over again because he came across as incompetent and his technician couldn't even figure out how to give that glaucoma pressure test. My new appointment with the new surgeon is in another week.
I just came across your video. I was reassured for my surgeries- had my Right eye done 3 weeks ago. My eye surgeon also used conscious sedation- worked Great! They had soft music playing in the OR, very relaxing! I talked to him during the surgery. Have had a couple of Post-op visits. Everything is going very well so far, my vision was 20/75, now corrected to 20/25. Very happy with it! My Left eye will be done in 2 weeks. They also use the eyelid scrub and eye drops before and after surgery- they told me this helps to prevent infections from occurring. I was a little anxious before the first surgery. But now since I know what to expect, I am actually looking forward to getting the other cataract taken care of. Right now I have one good eye and one wonky eye!!
Awesome video. I learned a lot. I'm 61 1/2 and have cataracts, and have those issues at night with headlights, taillights, etc. Even the moon look funny. I did not know about the lenses, so thanks for clearing out and helping with my anxiety about the surgery. 500 procedures a year means you know a thing or two. Thank you.
One thing people need to know too, is if you decide on a Toric lens, this will be in conjunction with your distance vision and you’ll still need readers. I retired from working in ophthalmology 7 years ago. At that time they were just coming out with Toric multifocal IOLs but they were still not being used in the US. I see now that they are available here. Your video is very informative and I’m going to send it to a friend of mine who is getting ready for bilateral cataract surgery.
I have surgery scheduled for 3 weeks time. Your video is amazing and has given me some thoughts for my pre-op and post op. I have myopia, fairly strong -10 presciption lenses and some astigmatism. Now at my age also presbyopia and early stage cataracts. I have elected for monofocal lenses, since I've been worn glasses since a teenager, Im happy to continue to wear glasses as I know with my poor eyes a lens replacement cannot fix everything. I had it done 2 years ago. I went with mono focal since my contacts had been that was for 20 years... left eye distance, right for reading. Still have 20/20! Left eye was done on a Wednesday and the right a week later. Made me wish my cataracts were worse years ago!

Had both eyes done January 2021, two weeks apart. Got along fine and see my ophthalmologist tomorrow for the final post op visit. Distance vision is 20/20 and I’m using readers for close up reading. I don’t like using them and hope my doc can prescribe glasses that I can use for distance and also close up reading...sort of a progressive lens. I’ve worn glasses for over 60 years so don’t mind wearing them. Wish I’d have seen this video before my surgery

Great, I didn't see this before I had my surgery done. At first I loved the results. I could see again without glasses. But a year later I started seeing round Christmas lights as stars instead of round. I also need readers to read when at first I didn't. I'm thankful that I can walk around without glasses again, but I don't see as crisp as I did when I wore the distance glasses.
I'm 75 & am worried about the same problem that you are describing, after surgery! Also, I had 'radial kerotomy' (vision correction surgery for myopia,) done on my left eye in 1981 & now am worried that the surgeon now has work around the sixteen cuts that are already in my cornea! IF ONLY WE COULD KNOW THE FUTURE, RIGHT?
Being totally blind in my left eye and having a Cataract in my right eye, to say i'm nervous is an understatement..I have confidence in my eye doctor yet there's always that chance of something going wrong..
I had this done privately in the UK a few years ago (I worked for an American company that gave us medical insurance) - the cost was £6000.00 for both eyes. It was life changing being able to drive safely again without wearing thick glasses. I still wear glasses for reading and using the computer but otherwise it was liberating. And virtually painless. My experience wasn't quite the same as described here, but close enough; and from talking with friends I understand that the NHS service is practically the same (except for the waiting list).

Feeling more at ease about cataract surgery after viewing this video. My eye doctor has been talking about this procedure for over two years but I been holding back because of the fear that this is permanent and my ignorance of the unknown. I have astigmatism but uses contact lenses to correct my eyesight. I have a a pair of contact lenses for work and one for surfing. I'm an active person and outdoors a lot: surf, hiking, mountain biking, & weight lifting 2-3 a week. So the thought of altering my lifestyle is my greatest fear, if this procedure doesn't go 100%. I didn't know what I didn't know. Thank you for your video!

I had that done to both my eyes, if I had a choice between the eye surgery or teeth cleaning I would go for the surgery. Hardest part was I was told to stop talking, No discomfort at all.

Maryell. Having had a double cataract operation done 9 months ago. I can tell you that this op is a piece of cake and as nothing compared to your cancer surgery. It takes from 10 to 20mins to do the job. It's completely painless snd you won't believe, how good your vision'll be immediately post op , and how comfortable you'll feel. My eye doc pushed me into getting cataract surgery. My left eye was great, everything went perfectly, I could see amazingly after just a couple of hours without glasses. My right eye however, has NEVER been the same. it's hazy, the vision/prescription lens they put in doesn't make my vision as clear as my left eye, I'm now getting lots of floaters and even a detached vitreous. I'm furious, but there's nothing I can do NOW. Just word to the wise, it doesn't always go to plan.
That's right my dad had cataract surgery and developed glaucoma right after now he cant see because he stopped going to eye doctor simple eye drops could have saved his vision to keep pressure down in his eyes.
I had cataract surgery and had a vitreous gel floater which was definitely more visible after surgery. My recovery was long…wasn’t able to drive at night for almost a year. Now, however, my brain has adjusted and the floater isn’t noticeable much at all. Once in a while I do notice it but nothing like in the beginning. When I woke up from surgery I was terrified as the sight in my right eye was so hazy I couldn’t see. Then they patched it, I had a follow up appointment the next day and the haziness was almost gone but there was that floater…looked like a jellyfish contact lense with capillaries which I could see. Ugh…what a recovery. Just thankful everything has more or less cleared up. My doctor didn’t push me into surgery, though, I needed it. Actually no doctor can push me into doing anything I don’t want. It’s my body and all I do is say no.
I’ve just been told I need the surgery but am dead set against it for these reasons. I will wait until my vision is really bad before I do it IF I do it. Only have one set of eyes.

@@danielconroy8928 My neighbour has Cataract surgery at 98 and 99. She lived to 104 and a half.. She was fully afraid of the surgery however i talked her into it so that she could see really well and stay in her own home. The matter of their and there was not an eyesight problem . It was a spelling error due to not paying good enough attention in primary school. This sort of thing happens often when USA people write thi8ngs. Like in the Murdaugh murder case one of the stories in their subtitles said four person instead of fore person and later on used the number 4 to again mean four. Illiterate bum.
I can’t thank the surgeon enough I had very poor sight +8 had both eyes done I’m now +1.5 for distance and 3.5 for reading. I have had glasses since four years old I’m now 77 and had my operation about seven years ago absolutely wonderful, okey a little bit of discomfort it to me well worth it.

Have you ever seen a restored Renaissance painting and marveled at the difference that the centuries had made? That is what it is like to have a cataract removed, though I am still a few years removed from the century mark.

I had my eyes done in Utah by one of the most respected group in the valley. Cost was 6K. I even went with there most expensive lens. On thing I can say about the lens. You will never see the same regardless how good they tell you the lens are. It allows for a lot of light in and your day vision is good but at night you will always see a multiple image effect and a starry effect. Its been about 3 years now and its never went away. Your brain does not filter this out regardless of what the doctors say. If I could do it over again I would of went with the normal lens. Also looking at the moon at night is always a double image. I think I can actually see the way the lens allow the light to come into the eye or the design due to the way I see light images at night. It appears to be very small multiple slits around the lens is my guess well this is what I see. Now for as the experience it was great. Doctors, staff, everyone was professional and its a great experience. I just think regular lens can be machine the same way as the special lens they like to sale for vision correction. As for the visible light transmission you regular lens that you insurance covers will probably not transmit as much light but the question to ask is what is the difference, what is the actual measured percentage difference? If a regular lens is 90% and these are say 93% I don't think the 3% is worth the starry effect for life and 3K more. I don't know what the difference is but I should have asked and any group that sales a special higher light enhancement lens should know these numbers. This is my one regret. Overall I can see pretty good at regular distance now, but don't expect to see as if you have your natural lens in your eyes. Even with the laser machining of the 2 lens its just not the same. Just a little background my vision was better than 20/20 before and with age and some diabetes I developed cataracts and had to have my lens replaced.
I had one done when I was 24 back in 1992. RU-vid didn’t exist back then but I did watch it on TV beforehand on a hospital documentary as I wanted to know what my surgeon was going to do. Have used varifocals ever since, initially just with the one eye, but now as I’ve aged with both eyes.
@@firecloud77 I had one cataract. I was starting to have trouble seeing to read things like books and newspapers. I was 20 at this point. Went for an eye test and was told the reason for my poor vision was a cataract. I was tested for things like diabetes and told to come back in a year so they could see whether the cataract was affecting more of my Lens. Then I was referred to the hospital eye department as an out-patient. They could find no apparent reason for the cataract but said the only way to deal with it was surgery so put me on the waiting list for surgery. For years my optician told me I was his youngest cataract patient.
I thought blue skies was a urban myth .my eyesight was so bad all my life ,when the surgeon walked in he said this is going to change your life and it did .
Dr. Young, I had my cataract surgery back in 2018 (both eyes), but I delayed it because I was very squeamish about the thought of having someone come at my eye with a sharp knife. I have met several other people who also had the same concern. Please reassure folks that they will NOT see their doctor come at their eye with a sharp knife and that the surgery is over before they know it. They may (as I experienced) see pretty colored lights (like a light show) as the surgery is performed. Also, my surgeon was standing behind me (at the top of my head as I lay down), so I couldn't see him even if I wanted to. The lens capsule in my right eye was problematic after surgery but a quick in-office laser treatment (I think it's called YAGY?) fixed that. I was told that cataract surgery is the number one performed surgery in the world, which comforted me very much. Good job on the video! I just wish I'd seen it BEFORE my surgery!.
I’m about to have the surgery soon. Vision became cloudy almost overnight about 6 months ago. Had an exam just last week and I have some bad fast onset cataracts. I’m only 46 and the dr said it’s bad. Now I have to have the surgery but I really really want to do both eyes. I can’t get the time off work for one at a time and honestly that would drive me more nuts than the blurred vision I have now. Thanks for taking the time to explain everything. I appreciate that.
I had great success with my cataract surgery! I now only wear glasses for reading and I did not get any special lenses. The surgery was very quick and pain free! Here in Canada I paid nothing for my surgery and the lenses I got were more than adequate!❤
Here in Montana (and the states) we pay for all drugs and medical procedures. I will get both eye cats done which will cost me in execess of 500 bucks, if I figure correctly. So much for being the greatest in the world. If I lived in any other country, my meds, etc would cost me ZERO
Very informative! I wish I'd watched your video prior to my evaluation, I would have been able to ask the doctor some questions. My doc didn't even mention the different types of lenses.
I have had my one eye done and I am trying to get in for the other one and no one has explained it as well as this video this is great. Thank you so much Gary
