Had one of these two days ago, rushed half an hour to get there got the pick out, they’d been stuck for 1.5 hours. Before picking thought I’d check the other doors. Bloody back doors open isn’t it!walked through the house came out the front door she looked at me like I was a wizard 😂😂
I understand what you mean by saying you felt like a failure but what ive noticed is the customer is usually just happy to get back in again, myself and the Mrs who both enjoy opening locks etc and we both said at the same time you didn't fail you still brought the bacon home and that's what counts, so good on you matey
I picked open 2 WXM on my first lve attempt at a customers house 2 days after buying the tool. Excellent bit of kit. ( why 2? Because it was patio doors and the customer didn't know which one opened)
@@FortressLocksmiths oh yeah absolutely!! The GJ is just amazing with them, don’t think I’ve failed on one yet. That and the Yale are my favourites along with the fortress/Strongbolt. But the grinder is fun…I might forget my pick next time
Seth just subscribed to your channel today as I'm really interested in the trade, I am self employed and have worked alone for over ten years in a different industry. I have been in contact with Train Locksmiths Manchester and they have said not sure if it's true that they are doing the only government trade recognised certificate for locksmith's in the country, just sounded really odd and would really like your thoughts on this.
Hi Steve , as far as I’m aware there is no real recognised qualifications as such , just as there is no governing body. At the moment it is unregulated industry meaning that anyone can set up to become a locksmith with no formal training. So locksmith courses can be accredited (such as City & Guilds) but there is no specific qualification that you need to trade as a locksmith unlike other trades such as Plumbing and Electricians. My advice is do a bit of research on different courses to see exactly what they offer and how much they cost etc. As a side note , I will be running my own 10 day training course later on this year with emphasis on NDE which is essential if you want to get into warrant work for utility companies
@@FortressLocksmiths That's great advise thanks Seth really appreciate your feedback, yes I've got some time until I say enough on the pet shop business I've run successfully for many years and change direction. And will look into different courses and what they offer and have even been practising on some locks with basic tools and surprisingly managed to unlock them with some patience.
Don't go mad but couldn't you have used a bell pull kit😮? I know you are a pro but sometimes another route you Don't normally use can get your clients in off the street quicker , Please let me know what you think and be honest I've got thick skin...... Robbie from huyton Liverpool UK
And that’s a fair enough comment Jon why would anyone want to pay more than they had to, but in some cases the cheapest option isn’t always going to be the best option. Take this lock for example, let’s say a handyman quotes £50 to get the door open and change the lock but he doesn’t know all the security features , by the times he’s broken 3 drill bits and panicked and walked away a locksmith that had quoted a higher price would have already had you inside and changed the locks 😂 That’s why I was so mad at myself in this video 🤣
Hi mate - Im new to locksmithing and having trouble knowing what pick i need to buy for these security cylinders, is this a dedicated ultion pick or is this just a normal dimple pick? Theres so many out there and im really baffled and dont want to waste my money! Please help, thanks 😊
@@FortressLocksmiths sorry if i am sounding dumb but i literally just finished training and just going out to start, i really want to focus on non destructive methods as much as I can and need some advise about what types of picks I should buy, there are so many different types for different locks - do you have a list of what you have in your inventory as a guide of what to buy - i want to really get stuck in! Cheers
@@Nezekeh well my friend as you can see from all my videos im a tool magpie I love having everything 😂 you need to find what locks seem to be common in your area, where did you complete your training ?
@@FortressLocksmiths yea i have noticed mate, im abit of a geek when it comes to having all the gadgets too!! Ive just done my training at UKLA in Essex and because I will be working in London i’ll be working on new builds / composite doors which is why I really want to get the right gear and start practicing as much as I can at home now. Thanks
