Thanks for watching hopefully this will help some of you having trouble pinpointing your targets with the NOX. If you have another technique please share it in the comments so others can learn as well. Thanks again!

This is why I watch your channel, thank you! I use the pinpointing feature a lot as I've had the nox 800 For only a few weeks. I was hoping to learn what the different pinpointing tunes mean. I believe it has different sounds if the target is in the front/back of the middle of the coil. Sometimes I have noticed I have a challenge getting the bars going up to 12. Side note, check out the depth readout on your bullet, think it is super deep. TY for this video, I am looking forward to trying the 2nd technique:)

You could be right as far as the sounds go. I never really paid too much attention. I always listen for where it sounds the loudest and its usually pretty close. As far as the depth goes, anything laying on top of the surface will jack with the depth reading. If you listened closely I believe you will hear the double beep and that indicates that the target is on the surface. But to be 100% honest I never pay too much attention to depth. Every manufacturer takes their stab at getting it close but you can never tell for certain until you pop the plug. Let me know how you do on the 2nd technique. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment. Much appreciated!

I almost always use the second technique. It's fast and accurate. The only time I have trouble with it is on really trashy sites when a 2nd or 3rd target gets under the coil as I'm moving it back. Then I go back to using the pinpointing feature on the machine. I've watched all your nox tips videos and they were all great. Take care buddy.

One reason it doesn’t engage right away is that you are over the target when you push the pinpoint button. Just move the coil to the side a bit before you engage pinpoint mode. Aliso for the second method you showed, the deeper and/or smaller an object is the more coil you have to get over it. So for a deep object, the tip of your coil may be over or just past it. It really helps to turn 90 degrees with this method too really zero in on your target.

Great presentation. Thanks for the tips. I too have struggled with pinpointing on the EQ800 in much the same way as Rich Watson getting to the point where I reckon the machine is faulty. I'm off to the backyard to start over! Regards from Australia.

Thank you for the simple but completely excellent video. I definitely learned a new technique with your demonstration of the non-pinpoint method. But what you also helped me discover is that I actually may have a software or other internal issue with my detector while in the pinpoint mode, I actually don't get any sound or reaction from the detector nearly 90 percent of the time. I bought my detector used and this may be an issue I have to contact Minelab about. I'm new to the Equinox and its behavior but I can definitely say that after watching all of your videos I have become a far better detectorist...so to speak...lol. Thanks again Mental Metal channel!!!

Good Video for learners! On all the detectors Ive owned over the years Ive done your second way too. I also go forward using rear of coil too that also tells me size of the target Also your quarter target there probably was something in the dirt under the quarter. also when learning to pinpoint do the 45 degree turn and do it again it will help you learn too. I haven't tried it in years but on the old whites you could move the coil almost all the way off target then let off and re push pinpoint and narrow the area down to even smaller area but Ive not tried that in years and not on nox at all. Tell ya what the smaller oval coils are lots better at pinpointing I think!

Thanks for the video. These basic videos are ideal for the beginners. I've struggled with the pin pointing. As you mentioned, sometimes there can be a fairly strong find signal but switching to pinpoint. Then nothing. I was wondering whether to send the machine back, as faulty. So in one way it's good to know it's a known glitch. I also find it can start wining in pinpoint then stop. It's quite frustratingly intermittent. Same glitch or faulty?

Hi Scot , thanks for the tips, sometimes my nox will just go nuts and want to pinpoint a target even when there is nothing in the ground, I have to turn it off and on and try again until it settles down and gives me a true reading. Maybe it is high minerals in the ground , adjusting the sensitivity does not seem to help much. Oh as for you tee shirt , I live real remote and I have them here , they actually scared wolves away from my sheep house, they are real and if you treat them with respect they do not bother you.
@MentalMetal
@MentalMetal 2 года назад
You're welcome! It could be the ground and I was going to add that maybe you have some EMI around but it doesn't sound like that would be an issue for you. Could be a faulty coil too you may want to consider sending it in to have it looked at. I've never seen a wolf up close but wow sounds like you get to experience the real frontier. Tare care out there and have great Thanksgiving.

Do you have any videos specifically on the 15" coil re settings etc?
@MentalMetal
@MentalMetal 3 года назад
What do you specifically want to know? I have the 15" coil but as far as settings go they don't change for the most part. Pin-pointing is a little more difficult but I hunt with it the same way I would with the 11" or 10x5. Let me know what you are looking for and I'll try and help. If you are looking for a bigger coil here some more info on the Minelab coils. I wrote this up and put it on my website: mentalmetaldetecting.com/which-minelab-equinox-search-coil-is-better/ I also have information over there on the new Coiltek coils as well.
@Daniel-fb8rm
@Daniel-fb8rm Год назад
Cool video.Do you have any tips for the 10 x5 coil because I have found that the pinpoint isn't at the center of the coil but towards the front.
@MentalMetal
@MentalMetal Год назад
Yeah smaller coils tend to pinpoint differently but I haven't found it too difficult to figure out as you did as well. I hardly ever use the pinpoint button on the machine anymore. I've gotten pretty good at just walking the coil back from a target until I can't hear it and at that point its usually centered at the top of my coil and thats where I dig the plug.
@Daniel-fb8rm
@Daniel-fb8rm Год назад
@@MentalMetal thank you for your reply.Another way is walking back with the pinpoint on.and when the beeping stops it's at the front of coil.

@MentalMetal
@MentalMetal Год назад
Pin-pointing or just in general?
@mariarees2343
@mariarees2343 Год назад
@@MentalMetal I would say in general, but especially in wet sand if not recovered in 1st or 2nd scoop. I’ve watched different videos…but am not consistent in pulling the target quickly and sometimes not after many tries. I do dig and recover many targets…wet sand is hard. One more question. I prefer beach hunting and I use beach 2 for wet and dry sand…I use to switch between the 2 settings but saw another video and stopped switching. I’m going to go back to switching and see if there is a difference. Thank you for answering my questions and thank you for your videos! Very good content and very engaging!
@MentalMetal
@MentalMetal Год назад
@Maria sometimes the target will fall deeper into undetectable depths especially you are near the surf line. Try placing the sand in front of the hole to deflect the water rushing in. It has saved me a few times. If you didn't get the target after the 2nd attempt then you really need to act fast if your hole is filling with water. I usually go down as deep as I can on the 3rd hole because my chances of losing it are higher after the 3rd strike. As far as switching programs, I like to stick with one of the programs but I will sometimes compare targets to the other beach program. I have the 800 and I save beach 2 in the extra profile and by 1 click of the search profile I can switch back and forth with out messing around with the settings. Its been awhile since I've used the beach programs so I can't remember which one I would prefer over the other. I think I have a video out there on it. Hope that helps.
