I didn't appreciate how good this show was as a child. At its best, it was as good as anything that ever aired.

@ Shannon Roylance. Discovered all these videos of Roberts while confined at home and what gems. As an actor who loved his craft for its sake and not the money, Roberts relished the opportunities to play different roles, heroic as well as villainous as seen in the variety of roles he took. That’s one of the main reasons he was unhappy at Bonanza and left after his 6-year contract when the producer ignored his grievances about the lack of development of his Adam character. But he played the character with devastating charm, charisma and talent, and will always be remembered fondly for gifting the world with Adam. As I watched more Bonanza episodes, I could see why he was frustrated. His acting chops are phenomenal. He portrayed the moments through his expressions and nuances. He delivered the essence of the scene with great gravitas.

A 2-part episode that aired March 1971. Filmed when PR was 42 years old.

PR could and should have stayed in character until the end of the Bonanza series because Adam Cartwright in his costume was perfect for greatly enhancing and showing off his good looks.

@Tigpark Thanks, Tigpark. Lon Phillips is one of my favorite characters. Pernell played this role so well. "Grand Stand Play" is a two part 5-0 episode, I believe from season 3. Hawaii 5-0 is available in syndication in many markets, but it is also available on DVD for purchase and probably rental via Net Flix or a similar video rental companies. I hope this helps! I'm sure you can also find it here on You Tube somewhere. Just search Hawaii 5-0 or Grand Stand Play.
