Howzit Bra, Pat here from Idaho. Local boy from Waianae's Maile beach. I was just in hilo in August hunted maunakea just before they slaughtered the mouflon. I was so disappointed. Even so at least there is still some good hunting. nice hunt.
Sup pat! Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah there is still some decent hunting but yes it is a losing battle more and more fencing and eradication everywhere! Sad but reality if you ever thought about coming back and hunting sooner will be better than later🤙🏽 mahalos for the message and Idaho! Got to go get them critters 🤣
That looks incredible. Less than a week since I left the island and you post this and I cannot wait to get back! NICE RAM. Looking forward to day two. 104 weeks until I get back so will have to settle for watching your vids until then.
Almost looks like how the area was in the 70's.....the old area 5, plenty game & so little archers, maybe 20 hunters would check in per day & that would be 20 hunters for all the areas open.
Wow that’s amazing!!! I have always heard so many stories about the old days and how the sheep used to be! I know we can’t go back in time but man I really wish I could have seen that with my own eyes!!! Thanks for sharing!🤙🏽👍🏽🐏🐏🐏
This is awesome bro! I live on big island been here a year and finally got my bow over. Been trying to understand the hunting zones a bit better. Any tips are welcome or if you ever do a meet up that would be great to! Mahalo!
Right on jalen! The island has quite a bit of opportunities for archery the year is winding down so a lot of the state hunting lands will be upland game bird hunting a lot of the information on the hunting areas and open areas are online and I also recommend if you don’t have it already is the onX app it will show you the boundary’s of the areas that you will find open online. Other areas such as pta there is a bit of navigating to figure out but check out the isportsman pta online to get started🤙🏽
Thanks for sharing Garrick! I’m heading over in July and am thinking about bring my bow. Will this unit be open again in July? If not, what would be another good location? Thanks and keep’em coming!
Honestly I have no clue if they will open this area in particular. Odds of being able to hunt this are even if they open is pretty slim. It’s a limited draw and you need to jump some hoops to get to even be entered to have a chance any getting into this area. But there should be some other state land areas open in July just realistically there’s no where that compares to this spot at the current time for sheep😢 but there should be a place to get out and try!🤙🏽👍🏽🏹
Loaded sheep! Love these videos, I shot my first ram (30in)with my dad inMaunakea with my first gun. Really hope there’s this amount of sheep in da future!🤙🏽 keep up the good work
The newer go pro 8 and 9 and my iphone I have been using the editing tool and zooming in on some of the video so I believe that’s what’s getting the video distorted I may need to video in 5k but the amount of memory it takes up is what kills me when making the videos
@@GarrickYamamoto I know youtube can be kinda funky. I noticed youre running a gopro but were not getting the option to watch the videos in hd. Maybe your video files are the wrong format for the upload?
Hey Garrick, love watching the videos and trying to get into hunting myself. I’m having a ridiculously hard time navigating what public lands are open for archery on the Big Island. I’ve checked online on DLNR’s website but found that it says it’s open year round but told by others it’s from August-Sept. Any tips? Thanks
Hey Troy there are a lot of areas and all have differ there regulations some are open year round some are not some have specific areas that are open during bird season and some are closed it can get really really confusing on what areas are open and what areas are not. And I know that it gets very frustrating trying to figure out what areas are open at that specific time try calling the state office if you have an area you want to try hunting that looks like it’s open to public hunting to confirm. And you need to keep in mind the state opens and closes areas without publication so best to call before you go to confirm
@@troynishimoto7875 yeah as much as the rules and regulations change here I would hate to tell you it’s a go and it’s not. There have been instances even with the amount that I hunt that the rules had changed and I actually found out from a Gamewarden that area was so call closed cause a change in rules so best to try giving the state office a call before going out to these areas. Believe it or not sometime they are not a hundred percent sure so you may get the I’m not sure answer😂🤦🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
@@GarrickYamamoto haha really appreciate the info, I’ve already run into some odd answers but I will definitely have to give them a call! Manuka or Mauna Kea for Goats is the goal to hit in January, but we’ll see, mahalo again Garrick!
Yes drawing and possibly standby if your willing to wait for people to check out and your lucky enough to get in. Usually a pretty long line of people waiting to try and get in on standby
