Part I of our action packed Hawaii series, "Off Axis" follows Matty Ice and Bmack around with our good friend, Nic as we hunt axis deer, wild pigs and Spanish goats on various parts of the island. If you've never eaten Axis deer they are some of the most delicious meat we've ever eaten. At the same time, they are invasive species that have exploded since their introduction to Hawaii. It is an interesting dynamic on how these invasive species impact the native Hawaiian landscape while at the same time being a large part of the hunting heritage for many locals. Part II will drop next Sunday as Eric and our good buddy, Chad "Money" Mendes get back after it for even more action. Hope you all enjoy this edit.
There’s deer everywhere, bc like the other hundreds of hunters that come to Hawaii (every year), they’re ONLY interested in shooting bucks. Proper conservation practices (as you talk about throughout your video) is to shoot the doe (3-5) for every buck you harvest, maybe even more. Allow the harvest of a buck to be an incentive for helping the habitat’s carrying capacity, and pick and choose a proper trophy to take back home. Knowing that you helped to make a positive difference in the devastation that you speak often of. Food for thought
Would be a great vacation with my wife as long as I could sneak away from the boring beach 🏖 to go hunting. Grats guys on getting your axis deer both with a bow and rifle.
Great hunt guy’s and enjoyed the video! I can’t imagine that many Axis deer and goats, not to mention the hogs on just that one island! Great opportunity for some good table food and also food for the hungry! Congrats to the both of you on the Axis bucks and the goats!
Hi Guys,I love the look of these Animals! Congrats B Mack on filling your Freezer. I know in Texas that cold Winter took a lot out. But they are thriving in Hawaii . It's too bad they grow like Rats and take away the beauty 😝. Plus as you say what better suroundings 🙌. I hopped all the Islands they are all different in there own way. Like Kaui is more dense and harder to get around except the Pig trail Congratulations to All JO JO IN VT 😆💕!
Awesome video. I killed my first axis buck this summer on Maui. Very lucky to have friends to allow me to hunt their property. So many opportunities and mess ups. Can’t wait to go back!!!
Beautiful country. So many Axis there on some islands there is year around hunting. Bow hunters paradise especially ifyou lived there. The meat is so delicious, better than beef IMO. A young one is the best. I gave up rifle hunting except for coyotes. Congratulations guys. Had to be a great adventure.
Nicely done, team!! Final measurements for your haul? Have hunted Axis and Mouflon on Lanai a couple times but would love to hop over to Maui and see the contrast in how the animals operate. But first, antlerless elk season right around the corner here in Utah. Wish us luck!!
Been waiting a long time for these to go live. I’ll be going to the Big Island in April 2023 for a vacation, but I’m trying to see how I can squeeze in some Axis deer hunting too! Before anyone bombs Nic’s Instagram, does he do guiding or allow access? Seems like a really great dude to work with 🤙🏼
It's so hard to hunt them though. There are only 3 guides on Maui and 1 of them is a high fence ranch. They went $3200 plus to hunt for a day. I go to Maui 3 times a year and would love to pay a trespass fee or something to hunt a ranch like you guys are on. It's pretty hard to make an impact on that heard when it's hard to get an opportunity to hunt.
@@Kalokala10 the thing with Molokai is getting to and from. A plane will add a few hundred each way with all your gear and then getting meat back to wherever you are staying. Then you also need to get from the airport to the hunting grounds. Maui should be easy as that's where most people are staying. No extra flights, you likely already have a rental car and you are not carting meat and gear around. There just isn't any place to really hunt them yet they are "invasive" and destroying habit.
It's not that hard, your hunt with a rifle would be over in 5 minutes on these grounds. Lol and you go to Maui 3 times a year and are complaining about the cost of getting access? Unless u going guided or know someone with grounds you not gonna hunt deer
@@lycheeznuts yes I am "complaining " as I would love to hunt and have enjoyed the hunts I have done on the island. I have also see the destruction they have caused. If I could pay a 1000 trespass fee I could hunt when I go. But shelling out 3200 for a day hunt is insane. And hunting the other islands is not that easy and ends up costing the same if not more between extra lodging, transportation, extra plane tickets and baggage fees. For an island that has a serious problem that is actually causing a significant amount of environmental damage they are not doing much to allow the outside to help with it. The state could easily help by setting up programs on ranches and farms where you could put in for draws to hunt and you pay the ranch a trespass fee. That's win win on all sides. The state could also incentive ranches allowing hunters on there land to hunt and pay the ranchers for every deer that's taken off the land. There are tons of ways to not only increase opportunity and to help the environment/problem
Do research, $2 g’s just for the opportunity + tags + travel + food + lodging = YOU ARE AN IDIOT IF YOU’RE NOT COMING HOME WITH ANTLERS. Spend more $ on education and less on pizza…you might be able to figure it out 🤯🙄
@@tallen4880 never said don't shoot bucks. said miss me with the bs morale high road talk about about how bad axis deer are for the island if you;re gonna shoot zero does and do nothing to help with the population management. since i can tell you aren;t very smart you would probably be interested in learning that killing does puts way bigger dent in the population than bucks.
