Credit where credit is due: Wendy handles questions like a BOSS!! A couple of those reporters didn't seem to have their priorities straight but Wendy sorted them perfectly. Idk who you are or why you're leaving Hawaii but damn, I could listen to you manage reporters like that every day. Nicely done. "People's lives are more important than sitting down to name an eruption" yaasssssss girl!!

I don't know how they can continue comparing this with the 1955 eruption, quite clearly this eruption is a lot stronger and has already covered far more land in a few weeks than the 1955 eruption covered in 88 days.

There has got to be a whole lot of pressure built up under that. For years and years even as it releases a little. It’s nothing like what I can come. I pray for all them. And I hope they all get out safely. But they will be somebody that will be stubborn and say oh it won’t bother me. Please go.

you guys nee an electromagnetic sensor in the area to map the EM field of the flows. measure the electric potential of the magma fountains. maybe try this from space and the ground and coordinate the results.

Reporters like Caleb irritate the living shit out of me... seriously take like an hour out of your god damn day to at least research Kilauea’s history if your going to be here trying to report on this event. What ever happened to journalists and reporters taking pride in your career and seek out as much knowledge you can. The media these days is mind bogglingly lazy...

IMO some of these questions were a waste . What is the temperature of the fountain? How high is the fountain? SMH. Steve from Reuters and Caleb from the associated press wanted history lessons. SMH. Repeated questions about naming the eruption. SMH.

What is the difference between a fisher and the main volcano? Can a fisher become a volcano?
@ShowtimeXXX
@ShowtimeXXX 6 лет назад
Thank you. I knew some of that, and some I did not. I realize they are already part of an existing shield Volcano, but I wasn't sure if they could get sectioned off after a period of time and become a separate system from the one it was originally attached to. The reason I asked is because in the video it looks like one or two of the fissures are becoming cone or shield shaped and getting a lot higher in elevation while still having lava coming out of it. I know there is a lot more that goes into it than that but I wasn't sure if that could happen or not and I would imagine at some point new volcanos can be created on earth or become active. I appreciate your time and answer. Thank you.

Okay, so, I live in New Zealand, known as the shaky isles. We’re right on top of two techtonic plates that duck and dive beneath us. We live in the shadows of mainly dormant but a few active volcanoes. I give this preamble for all those who might dismiss me as someone who has no experience of such activity. You all need to leave now. Not sure how big your island is, and I do not have any University metriculation in earth sciences, but you surely must be barking mad if you stay on this island. Please, the whole world is watching, be sane and be safe. Get the hell out of there. Bless you all.
@alixr5926
@alixr5926 6 лет назад
So, Gimmie, that makes me wonder -- where did you go after leaving New Zealand? You did leave, right? No, you didn't, even though it's a dangerous place. I am sure you have your own reasons. Where exactly do you propose everyone go whose area produces earthquakes, lava, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, wildfires, landslides, avalanches, droughts? Some places on earth are safer than others, but no places are absolutely safe (think meteor strikes). And those that are safer than others don't necessarily provide the means for people to make a living there, nevermind that due to nation states, people can't just pack up and go anywhere they want. Also, where there are few natural disasters, there's always still human aggression to make sure we have something to fear. I am more concerned with the risks of that than the risk of any natural disaster here, because statistics show it is more likely to happen. Seriously: since we've been keeping track, roughly 300,000 people have been killed by volcanic activity worldwide. This is not even close to how many have been killed by other humans; that number is in the tens of millions. You're not sure how large the BigI island of Hawaii is (~10,500 sq km; all Hawaiian islands together are ~28,000 sq km -- tip: Wikipedia is a great start for finding such information), with about 185,000 inhabitants (Hawaii total has 1.5 million). This eruption affects a small corner on one island of Hawaii. Kilauea is not a highly explosive stratovolcano (unlike say, Mount Pinatubo), and also unlike some shield volcanos like Manao Voui on Ambae Island where tens of thousands of people are affected at once if it blows. This lava from fissures opening up only affects a few people at a time, who can literally walk away from it. It makes zero sense for everyone to leave Hawaii, just like it makes zero sense to leave New Zealand despite it having an active volcanic zone and some destructive earthquakes. It only makes sense to evacuate the immediate area -- which is what people are doing.

She is so well spoken... I appreciate her responses. I am slowly thinking better of the USGS and I think her efforts are partially helping to repair their reputation. But more needs to be done to consider and appropriately accept and utilize non-traditional scientific theory such as seismic pressure transfer. Ever since China has very recently adopted a national approach of analysing seismic pressure transfer it has syrongly validated the originators of such work, primarily including that of Dutchsince. As long as mean spirited, curse ridden email communications and public press releases of derision against this researcher of the progressive methodology of seismic pressure continues, they merely dig a deeper hole for themselves. And limiting the release of seismic readings to vast regions of the world, such as what is recently being done with China, is just childish. And not done in the spirit of wishing fairplay to other researchers and "letting the best man (or researcher this case) win".

I read the fracking operation has possibly caused this lava devastation. Also how does this volcanic eruption compare to the catastrophe of the Krakatoa eruption in 1883?
@theomniscientogoftheintern8889
I'm curious, did the fracking cause all of the eruptions going back the last few hundred years as well? Some of them were larger than this one, so does that mean they were doing more fracking back then? Please answer I need to know! I need your information. How long have they been fracking there? For 200 years already? I'm doing a report I need your info please!
@larse9999
@larse9999 6 лет назад
Alexi Blackwell Bridal if you are a conspiracy theorist, stop already, please! If you really believe that this flow and volcano is man made and all this was planned by "fracking" by nefarious interests, then there is no hope to discuss this rationally. Being raised on the Big Island, I can't even begin to explain how rediculous this is!

There's debate as to where the PGV operations have contributed to the fountaining happening near the facility. Officials deny it but it's very suspect that the some of the worst fountaining has happened so near the facility. In order for PGV to dig their wells they had to remove tons of substrata lava rock going thousands of feet deep. There is no fracking going on as I understand it but it's possible that something similar may have been going on that contributed to the lava eruptions in the area similarly to earthquakes in other areas where fracking has been their cause. As far as Krakatoa is concerned, there is no comparison. Krakatoa mas an explosive eruption many times larger than anything Hawaii has ever seen. The volcanoes in Hawaii are not the explosive stratovolcanoes typical of the Ring of Fire. Instead we have shield volcanoes that ooze out lava and slowly build up the mass of the islands. As spectacular as these vent lava fountains appear they are really small compared to what happened at Mt. St. Helens and Krakatoa and other much larger explosive eruptions.
@larse9999
@larse9999 6 лет назад
Stone W ... Debate? The only serious debate is if Geothermal is a clean energy or not and if the locals really wanted it. Debate as to the cause of the lava flow... I don't think so, not at least from people with any common sense. Cause these locos are saying this volcano is man made! I guess these theorists then are also making the argument that PGV contributed to the same type of volcanic eruptions in the 1700s and 1800s and what happened in 1920s also? Hmmm, doesn't seem to hold much water after looking at the history of the formation of the islands now does it. But we really got to take this seriously because there is this "Dr" guy providing all this "proof" that also knows the secrets of the new order and also has evidence of little green men too! Not! Crack pot! Cray Cray for sure!

Answer this question: Why would anyone frack on Hawaii? Fracking is used to extract oil or gas from rocks. Hawaii, being a built up entirely of volcanic eruptions, holds no oil or gas. So, mark that on down as bullshit conspiracy.
