fun fact Hawaii 5-0 was the last scripted primetime show that debuted in the 1960s to leave the air. it is the only show from the 1960s to make it into the 1980s
@@rsprockets7846 Geez you're dumb. You think the police department is supposed to throw their cars away every year? You win "ignore" for your stupidity,
Absolutely, the best TV show theme ever! Though there are many others that are fantastic, this one sits on top, followed by original Magnum PI from 1980 theme, Wild Wild West, The Virginian, Bonanza, Batman, Star Trek, and many other greats!
That beauty at 1:01: This face, belonging to Elizabeth Louise Malamalamaokalani White Logue, was inescapable during the 1960s, as she was the poster girl for the Hawaii Visitors Bureau. That's not all - Logue was also the University of Hawaii's Miss Air Force ROTC in 1959, a star in the films "Hawaii" and "Odissea Nuda," a reservations agent at Hawaiian Air Lines and one-time wife of Tahiti artist George Logue.
This opening theme song was so cool, the Band was jammin !! And the camera work was on point !! Great character actors, some went to some of my favorite shows like Loretta Swit in M.A.S.H. 👍
I liked so much this show, and the choosing of Jack Lord to play the main character was the best choice, in my opinion. The theme is Great and added a mysterious touch to the show.
True story, I won a trip for two to Hawaii, actually the company I worked for bought the raffle ticket and won and then put everyone that worked at the company names in a hat and I won. But anyway I decided to go for my 5 days during Thanksgiving. It was a package tour with a flying trip to see the other islands and a Luau on Thanksgiving day among other things. I had been a fan of Hawaii 50 since it began on TV. The luau was hosted by a group of natives and one of them looked VERY familiar. I had taken my dad on the trip and as things were going on I whispered to him that I thought one of our hosts played Kono on Hawaii 50, None of the hosts had been introduced at that time. WELL I guess some of the other guest heard my comment and within seconds the entire crowd was buzzing so loud they had to stop the proceedings and introduce one of our hosts as the actor Zulu that played Kono on the TV show.
@@markcullen9557 Mark the greatest TV theme of all time for ne is Mission Impossible 1966-73 (not that Tom Cruise nonsense) for me the TV theme during that time tops it Hawaii Five-0 was on during that time 1968-80 so I heard both themes for years and I give the edge to mission impossible.
@@martinfinn1550 Martin you right about The Virginian I think its the top TV theme western over Wagon Train (after season 3) there are a lot of TV theme I would put ahead of Kojak Rockford Files Hill Street Blues Sanford and Son Macgyver (1985)
Note mostly 11 to 12 year video montage. The young boy shown for a couple seconds was probably college age by then, the cars and jets retired or even scrapped.
Happened right after executives, once season 11 concluded, got a call from James MacArthur saying he no longer wanted to play Danno, resulting in showrunner in all-but-name Jack Lord hiring such actors to replace the cast for this last season.
@@tygrkhat4087 I did forget to add that exception since Wedemeyer's character has appeared from season 4 onwards (and already was promoted to the titles following season 9), Moe Keale and Sharon Farrell also appeared in previous episodes too before being promoted to the titles in this last season.
After 12 seasons and reaching two decades, the intro by 1980 already shows shots that, despite its iconic and legendary essence, demonstrate that it's a time capsule from the late 60's and early 70's. The theme tune for this season also shows slight alterations in order to sound more 'funky' despite the disco genre already phasing out, always thought this season's theme rendition was more like a swan song to the show, much more after I read rumours that Jack Lord himself thought the 11th season was the last one he would make, but then had to make this season on the demands of CBS executives only to give closure regarding Wo Fat.
Chin Ho was killed off in the last episode of the tenth season, upon the departure of Kam Fong after playing him for so long, claiming the show became rather 'static' according to interviews in 1977. More information regarding this in hawaiifiveo.org/forum/showthread.php?5738-Did-Kam-Fong-want-out-of-the-show
You could include M:I and Five-O in the discussion for 'best themes of all time'. A-Team and Knight Rider are less iconic, but certainly among 'best themes of the 80s'.
According to both Wikipedia & iMDB, this is episode 12 of season 12. Checked it because Gary Lockwood is shown. He played: 1. LCDR Gary Mitchell in "Where No Man Has Gone Before," the 2nd pilot & 3rd episode shown of Star Trek & 2. Dr Frank Poole, the 1st of the 4 astronauts killed by HAL 9000 in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Yeah; I'll always remember, "and Kam Fong as Chin Ho!" The classic zoom-in shot of Jack Lord turning around on the balcony is, well, like I said, a classic.
recuerdo algunos capitulos pero mas la intro..mucho tiempo ignoraba lo q era ese parte de la chica q bailaba y solo se ve su cadera..las tiras de paja agitarse siempre crei q era una maquinaria del avion
Rumours say that Farrell either quit or was told to leave the show after half of the episodes were produced, she never confirmed the actual reason. However there is a rather polemical interview she gave that gives a rather cynical glimpse about Jack Lord in regards to his contributions as showrunner and how he got to bring Sharon as a cast member in this last season.
@@Jose-kb6nc if its the same one i ready she suffered a lot behind the scenes, despite the show itself greatness and with a good cast. I think she should ve have been in all the episodes
Si veas a Jack Lord y James MacArthur entonces ya sabes que estas viendo a la versión original del programa de "Hawaii 5 0". Favor de pensar positivo diario. ™
I always believed that if it's not broke, don't fix it. This version of the theme song is the worst for the original series, imo. There are 2 or 3 other versions for this series.
Today's standards are more cringe-worthy but you can't see it because you're living in it. I'm talkin about stories and characters. We think that they're better today but they're really not.
