Kai will go down as the benchmark of being the greatest waterman! Exclude Kai being a wonderful human being, his athleticism and ability to adapt will stand the test of time
Sou Say I lived there and rode there in the mid 80s. It was good but never saw MA’ALAEA that big. It’s was conquered recently that big when the trades are blowing hard enough to slow it from freight training you into it. Basically the wave needs lots of offshore wind to make it rideable and that’s a rare occurrence with a tide and swell combination. I’m glad for Kai and many other talented surfers to score! Cheers J.
