Definitely a competition worthy dance, but so beautiful that it was done for a wedding . Anytime I see a beautiful hula it just makes me more proud to be Hawaiian.
This was beautiful the fact that they are a married couple dancing together is even more beautiful. What a lovely tribute to his brother. My heartstrings have been tugged.
this is the best of this dance on youtube and I love the spirited audience. husband and wife are a beautiful couple and they both smiled the entire dance, were in perfect harmony and seemed to really enjoy dancing together and for their family and friends.
Gives me chicken skin(goose bumps)..cause reminds me in my early days of picking limu. These two really do a great job of expressing it through the hula.

WAOUUUUHH c'est beau et magnifique danse , superbe chorégraphie que j'apprécie beaucoup et bravo au couple marié 👫 😀👍👍👍👍 = monday 03/02/2020/Paris 75 to France 🇫🇷
Those of you with the thumbs down obviously do not have a culture therefore you have no meaning like us who do.We`pray that you find yourselves more so find your hearts and respect God Bless..
I am Japanese. Congratulations to the lovely couple. It's such a wonderful dance. I was impressed. I want to know the name of this music. And I want to learn how to do this dance.
Must be a Filipino reception. Such graceful couple and the best interpretation of this song. I watch it at last everyday. Trying to review and learn the dance. Hapa's version likewise is unsurpassed. I've seen others sing this but with such speed it does not look graceful for dancers. Too hurried. Mahalo and salalmat.
We learned this mele in Hula Halau Keali’i O Nalani and only the kumu can teach you this mele unless you have his permission. This was one of the 2 na mele I remembered from dancing in this halau.
Can one learn the dance or does one need to understand and know what the words and movements mean? Can someone not Hawaiian learn this and not to be criticized? It is such a beautiful interpretation and wonderfully executed by this couple.
That's a great question, Ricardo. Hula is not really hula without the 'olelo, or language to go with it. All the movements tell a story, and some of those are stories of family/personal lineage, some are sacred history, some are political, some are playful, and many of these overlap with each other in complex layers. I practice hula and learn the language and I am not native to Hawai'i; I would say that most that practice hula are not. So I would say that one can absolutely learn hula without criticism, but if you do, I would personally encourage you to learn as much as you can, including the language (Hawaiian language is available on Google translations and on the Duolingo app!)
@@gerardbesina2082 My wife and I frequent Maui at least 2-3 times a year. This particular song by Hapa has always been one of my favorites. My wife and I love ball room dancing and somehow as many times as I watch this, I try to convince myself that it is possible to "follow the pattern." I am sorry if I am using the wrong description. I even went as far as asking some Hawaiian friends of ours here in Portland to teach me. After watching the video, all they say is: "It is easy to follow. Just watch it over and over". Oh well, I'll keep trying. Thank you for the encouragement and your reply. Mahalo & Salamat.
@@gerardbesina2082 Let me make a wild guess and say: Isn't that you and your wife dancing? I have watched others do it, but this comes out to be the best.
@@gerardbesina2082 Who is your Kumu Hula... are you and your wife part of the same Hālau? Very beautifully danced, would like to seek permission to learn this version. Mahalo nui!
I’ve seen this video recently without the introduction. Always loved the music and didn’t really know the meaning of lyrics. The couple danced absolutely beautiful - graceful, fluid like the ocean, and in harmony with each other. Loved how they smiled through out and enjoyed dancing to the music and with each other.
Stunning couple!!! Absolutely stunning!!! Love the movement and sways of the dance just like the waves and tides of the sea/ocean. Beautiful song n loving story telling words!!! Yip this makes me Happy!!! Kia Ora from NZ!
So beautiful I often tear up and have to start it over. More than half a century since I left the Island of my birth, but this perfect blend of music and motion brings it all flooding back 🌺
My favorite!!! Just like being there. I play it often, just love it all. Thank you for posting, sharing. Congratulations to the bride and groom. Best wishes.
