How To Train Your Pigeon

I lost two birds on the 10 miler training toss. They turned up the following day but one of them had a hawk injury to its crop. I attempted a fix as the bird was trying to drink but the water came straight back out. It seems to be holding up well and is back flying with the rest of them within a couple of days.

Hi mate good to the birds getting in training mode wouldn't be to fussy about times at moment as there learning there land marks and surroundings and will get better each time that one that was injury looks like the one's i use to find by me after hitting pylon wires they cause those types of injuries and sadly a lot killed hopefully makes a good recovery 👍

I would take them to the breaking point four times. Run them together the last trainer before racing. After the 1 st race loft fly. Keep separating them. IMO your feeding to well for short tosses. If you get a bit of time. Research Davy way. Australian pigeon flyer. Read his articles on training young birds. It’s a good read. Keep up the great video’s

There still getting used to the new trellis but they will in no time get used to it and drop first time even as a flock, once they don't start landing on you're garden shed facing you're loft that's all that matters. Definitely time to up the distance now big time and train them that it's out of the basket and straight home for food and a rest. Don't be afraid to bring them 30-40 miles it will be nothing to them and it will just build up there fitness levels, if you're wife or dad can let them out in the morning and you train them in the afternoon/evening when you finish work. Really need to get them in2 a routine now it's so important. You talk about bad weather and not training them alot, I don't no how the weather has been in Nottingham but unless it's lashing rain you need to be training them, as they will be racing on Saturdays when they will meet all types of weather enroute home, generally once it's clear at the race point they will release them, and if they encounter rain on the way home they will either fly through it or go around it, many times I had pigeons come home in race time like drowned rats after hitting rain close home, so don't nanny them 2 much weather wise they need 2 experience all this in training because they are going 2 get it some race days. The hen with the rip in her crop, she might not necessarily been hawked, when racing and training the south road the birds encounter north in the wind, and when this happens they fly low and do what is called HEDGE HOPPING, basically flying low 2 avoid the wind, and when doing this they clip power lines and the top of trees and cut them self's open, I think the glue is the job, as when you Stitch them some times the water just leaks out, it's good she's flying after that happening 2 her, as generally there bruised and sore and might even have broken a bone, if you look at her keel bone I'd say it's bruised, but she's a tough1. As always enjoy, and looking forward to your next video. 🕊️🕊️. Yours in sport des

I'd agree there it's a front wound, could have been chased by a Peregrine then hit a TV ariel or similar 🤔 They're tough buggers our pigeons, should make a full recovery 🙏 Stiched up a few in my time

Just stitch one of mine with an opened crop, really bad, I was thinking of killing him but I decided to fix it. It is a two layers stitches, the crop and then the skin. It was 3 days ago and he never stop eating and today he flew for like 30 minutes. It looks like he will make it

What I use to do in this scenario if I had nothing was to sew the injury if was too big and then crush an antibiotic pill and put it on the wound. In 2 days they were going back outside
