Im a swans supporter, and yet i even like this video, the camera angles are amazing, and so is the use of footage, someone needs to do something like this but for AFL.
2008 I knew we were going to take the flag - 2012 the disappointment - 2013 Didn't think we were going to win - 2014 I thought Sydney had our measure - 2015 Eagles by a landslide - today those great memories has me still thinking - WHAT A CLUB.
Remember watching Offsiders on ABC the weekend before the grand final & Caroline Wilson stated she thought the Hawks were "cherry ripe" to win the 2008 grand final when most experts thought it would be beyond Hawthorn. It was a big call cause Geelong has been all conquering that year in the home & away games. I've been a hawk supporter since 1961 & I must admit I thought it was going to be a very big ask to beat Geelong that day but the mighty hawks did us proud. The victory is even sweeter when you beat the raging favorite.
I remember in round 17 when we lost to them by a few points and I thought to myself if we meet them in the gf that something special was going to happen. I told my friends what my thoughts where and they all laughed at me. Well we got the 🏆 and I got the 😊's.
Yes I can. Hawthorn were better on the day. Geelong have been better since, but in the 2008 GF Hawthorn were better. Geelong played well that day, could have kicked straighter at goal, but they were still a great side. The pressure they applied to Hawthorn in the last quarter was massive, but Hawthorn were good enough to withstand it. It was a great GF between 2 great sides. I hope this year's GF is Hawthorn vs Geelong, as it'll be a ripper
Always felt we were a chance leading up to the game. this team will be and is my favourite to date. even the 89 team, not saying they were better then the 89 team, certainly not but they were genuine underdogs, true hawthorn spirit right there.
i also want to reiterate the fact that Clarkson has grown with a side over 9 years. His inspiration is prominent throughout the club, but also through the supporters. I find that lacking throughout Geelong FC in general.
The 2008 and 2012 grand finals have a lot of similarities in my opinion. In both, the favoured team (Geelong in '08, Hawthorn in '12) won a lot of key statistical indicators including inside 50s by a big margin but lost two crucial ones: tackles and disposal efficiency. Hawthorn's tackling pressure and efficiency got to Geelong just like the Sydney pressure and efficiency got to us last year. Both Hawthorn and Sydney were the better team on the right day and deserved the premierships they got.
More inside 50s but nowhere near as fluent as they had been all year due to the defensive structures we had in place. They came hard continuously for the first 2 and a half qtrs thinking they would eventually break us. But it was the other way around and once we grabbed momentum in the 3rd they dropped their heads and the last Qtr and a bit of that game was on our terms. It was a masterclass in how to bring down a juggernaut. It reminded me of Rocky vs Ivan Drago.
***** What have we done since then? Finished top 4 for 4 straight seasons won back 2 back flags for the second time in our History did geelong go back to back in there dominant era? Oh don't worry i already know the answer and its a no because the Hawks out played them haha
look, i understand that you support Geelong. Don't get me wrong, Geelong are a fantastic side and have proved that over the last decade in particular. Albeit the fact that a few comments may have been incorrect; i feel as if that your comment that 'Geelong have won more flags than Hawthorn' was severely wrong. Before you make vicious comments like that, get your facts right. I admire Geelong FC as a team - as for their supporters..
Anyone always notice how red the sherrin was for that game. I know that sounds weird but it’s like a really strong red colour. Stronger than usual. And I like it.
Mr Reality Check, I'm getting back to you about flags, AFL flags now equal, VFL and AFL flags Hawthorn 2 ahead...despite Geelong being in the comp 28 years longer. Bow down before your overlords! WHEN IT MATTERS!!!
Still my favourite footballing moment to see Crawf get the flag in his last game against Hawthorn's greatest rival. Hawthorn cruised into the GF with demolition jobs on the WB and Saints. When Cyril won that contest when he was against three on the wing, I knew we had it in the bag.
Im having a bad season this year and I just sometimes feel like giving up and taking that easy option of quiting. But this made me want to push harder so hopfully one day soon I can be with of a group of my mates celebrating like this!
mate don't act like you Geelong supporters are goodies mate there is good and bad in all supporters but us hawkers just don't give a fuck. we're loyal and we'll stay by the hawks no matter what.
Remember also it wasn't that long ago those 'inspirational' supporters were calling for Clarkson's head, not to mention your ex president. In 9 years with the team Hawthorn has/had they should have won 2-3 flags.
You probably couldn't see it but the abuse we coped from Hawthorn supporters was ridiculous, they were not good sports after the 2008 GF. Most of us would have moved on and congratulated you guys if your supporters weren't such pricks. The rivalry between our two teams was created by Hawthorn supporters after the GF (which I never understood as you guys won). Imagine how the Hawthorn supporters would have behaved if they lost?
No I said AFL flags not AFL/VFL flags, it's tongue in cheek to Hawks supporters who keep claiming they are a better side because they have more total flags. I can see you admire this man (Clarkson) but from this video and hearing him make 'speeches' I didn't feel he came across very strongly, passionately or much of an inspiration (that's just my opinion). Nothing in my comments that I said makes me a 'fuckwit' as you put it. Hawks supporters aren't exactly the greatest supporters either.....

@@traceyzamora9895 Dew was good, no doubt. Yeah and Eagles beat Collingwood in the 2018 granny. Doesn't mean it wasn't interfering with a marking contest.
Worst grand final i ever watched. Cats were awesome in the centre. Hawks couldnt control geelongs momentum in the first half. Would of slaughted hawks if it wernt for their horrible accuracy towards goals. 23 points... it was painful. Hawks however had spot on accuracy, 18 goals it was pretty good.
taylor stevenson you know what they say, bad kicking is bad footy. Can’t give excuses when kicking a goal is the main aim of the game. If you can’t do that, then you deserve to lose. Same thing happened with us in 2012, kicked horribly and Swans got us, we deserved to lose in 2012. Same thing here with Geelong.
