Part 2: Rare footage of the Marion 8900 Dragline at the Hawthorn Mine near Dugger, Indiana in July, 1996. Video includes internal machinery and 150 cubic yard bucket digging overburden while the machine performs 360 degree rotations. Also, some footage of the BE 2570 in the same pit, before and after shot of blasting, including signals, and close ups of some other equipment.

That was about the best perspective I have seen of one of these draglines operating, from the operator's cab. The operator must have had a sore left foot, or leg. He had the top of that coal seam almost spotless down to where he was working.

These videos are priceless. Unfortunately, there will be a day when the last 2570w ceases to operate and videos like these will keep them in memory

I was just thinking how much great old footage like this must still be on VHS tapes laying around in boxes of old junk in peoples garages and basements, there must be a huge amount of absolute gold video footage out there that isn't recorded anywhere else at all and will probably never get rescued and transferred to a new medium before the old magnetic tapes degrade too much to be recovered again.
