The sound is absolutely beautiful! And I'm feeling that you really understand Haydn in a sense that you're not exaggerating in a way that makes the interpretation too romantic, but yet you still make an excellent distinguishion between the different movements. But you already know what you're doing so well, I think :) Definitely one of my favourite versions! Well done!

Thank you! As for hardness, perhaps we have to come to agreement on terms, that is, what "hard" is. This sonata isn't hard to press right notes at right times and doesn't require much stamina, but it's very, very demanding in terms of attention and concentration once you want to achieve real perfection in phrasing, articulation and dynamics.

Haydn's sonatas are deceptively difficult in the subtleties and quick change of moods and color. Fantastic version! Thank you for this recording.

@sergeypiano In fact,I am one of your fans. I love the way that you interpreat such as silence, impressionim alike. It always appear clearly when you take on slower musical moments. It's so amazing!! For example,Sciabin left hand nocturne op.9no.2 or sonata op.23no.3 third movement. How poetic you are.Hope upload more:) By the way, I remarked humor above. Acually,I mean some sequence of first movement. Besides,Second and third movement are just perfect!!

I saw the E minor in the title (which I associate with dark, inner-turmoils. A ghoulish yellow.) However, I simply did not expect Hayden to send chills down my spine. Thank you for this gift, Sergey. Mr. Kuzenstov, if you are out there (and all listeners as well) do take a look at my note to color-shape music theory. I believe I have, to a significant degree, identified our hearing the note-colors as spectral, and I have been able to come up with proofs of thematic patters that are constantly related to specific keys. (For example, love songs being constantly written in C. Red.). Or the simple fact Classical "Pastorals" were always reserved for F and F# (greens). Please find my work here at: _The Acoustic Rabbit Hole_

Thank you Sergey. You are an amazingly inspiring pianist and musician. To the risk of sounding too flattering, one needs a lot of elegance (like in Mozart) to play Haydn the way you do. And today there are very few young pianists who have any. Keep up the good work, and thanks again for sharing your talent. G. Z.

I fully agree with you that Haydn meant Presto. (Perhaps not the same Preston as the one in 20th-century music, but this is a different question though). And I dare assure you that the tempo in this recording IS presto. The time signature of the first movement is 6/8, therefore my quavers are at a speed of approximately 285 units per minute, which is certainly more than enough for a presto.

I believe the exact measure of pedalling here is a matter of taste (I'd prefer very sparing use of it) but SOME pedal is indispensable, I presume. It is true that the instrument for which the sonata was written differs wildly from modern pianos, however it already possessed pedal (or lever to be exact).

Do you mean the first four notes? This is actually the rule for the classical-style sonatas to use the sounds of the tonic triad in the opening. Much rarer is the contrary, when a sonata would begin with anything different; for instance, Beethoven's E flat major sonata op. 31 is his first sonata that begins not with tonic.

Thank you for the kind words! As for your question, it _may_ be that playing turns at the note beginning would be a more correct way to play, judging buy some small details in Haydn's legacy. But I think that such general rules are good as the starting point and every single case that we meet requires to take individual decisions. And here I play so for artistic reasons: playing turns in the beginnings could create undesired stops after the turns thus rendering a "hiccup" character to the music.
