I am really starting to adore Haydn. There's a wonderful playful, joyous, innocent, and child-like quality to his music. It's undeniably infectious and adept at putting a smile on my face. It's said Haydn had a good sense of humour, and I sense that whenever I listen to his music. It's so lighthearted and mischievous at times.
This is because most of us are heavily influenced in our musical outlook by the 19th century Romantics. It is fairer to Haydn to view and compare his music, style and influence with his contemporaries, those that came before him and Beethoven/Schubert who came very directly after him. For many during his time, they were actually startled by the seriousness, deeply personal and introspective moments especially in Haydn's slow symphonic movements... something which isn't always apparent to the modern classical ear today. The young Beethoven owes and is indepted greatly to Haydn's influence, symphonic and chamber music inovations... and despite Beethoven's stormy character, it is fair to say that of all composers Beethoven had the deepest reverence and respect for Haydn, FATHER of the mature classical symphony and string quartet genre.
That’s a great start - but you will discover far deeper layers of meaning, originality, intellectuality, emotion, and power as you continue your listening journey. Like for Beethoven, whilst Mozart will provide answers, Haydn will pose questions.
I enjoy seeing that Papa Haydn was an equal-opportunity orchestrator. The excellent camerawork highlights nearly every time some section is getting their share of the performance. And the conductor seems to having the time of his life.
@@johnkusske7535 Accorfing to several academic polls, Haydn is in the top composers list. but is somewhat negelected, probably do to the popularity of Mozart. Bach. Handel and Beethoven are usually listed as the apex composers, all for different reasons.
The symphonic orchestra of galice is indeed a good orchestra. Under the baton of Koopman, he delivers to us a very vivd version of the symphony "the miracle" of Haydn. The surname would come from the fact that the house where was the manuscript burnt and the manusript was saved by miracle.
This is very much to my taste, the small orchestra brings out the inner detail which gets lost in larger forces, also the string players avoid the dreaded vibrato which spoils performances of this period. Koopman is a true Maestro of the Baroque and Early Classical music.
Retoriese vraag. Nadie lo sabes. Chic@s, disftutamos a Haydn, y con gran amor. ❤.
Haydn = Father Christmas. There is as much evidence pointing to Haydn being ‘Father of the Symphony’ as there is for him being Father Christmas. (ie zero).

Weird performance...this sounds like a timpani concerto..i am all for clarity and thumping trumpets and timpani but the timpani is too loud....koopman doesn't seem to be interested in balancing the different sections of the orchestra at all
@@TheOneAndOnlyZeno Mozart went on record stating he liked the enormous size of the orchestra in Paris when he wrote his Paris Symphonies. You should read his letters...maybe you'll learn something.
@@muslit I am sure he liked the size of small ones too, and if it were up to him probably depended on how he felt, not what he wrote in 1 letter.. so stop pretending you know more than anyone else.
