I can tell you what happened. The island is slowly being turned into a retirement island. It's horrific. The only money being spent on the island is to build retirement homes and houses. Not increasing or improving the facilities. It's unbelievably annoying as a long-time visitor to the island, I've watched it happen. Pubs, Arcades and anything fun have been on the decline rapidly over the last 10 years.
Real shame this, I have lots of happy holiday memories here back in the 70's can't believe how it has gone so far down hill, I thought Swindon was bad!
A while back I visited the funfair. It had an overpoweringly "off season" feel to it - and this was at the height of the season! It felt like the fair in the Silent Hill games.
I have to drive into Hayling on a regular bases and the car drivers are pig ignorant. They won't give way and drive recklessly. One time it was voted in the top ten of the worst places to live in the UK. There is only one road on and off (if there is an accident on that road, you are isolated), the houses are too expensive, it is full of old people (nothing against), there is little in the way of business and there is very little entertainment. I wouldn't want to live there.
