How to disassemble a Hayward SP15921FP Pool pump to repair a leak between the basket and the motor. All of these parts can be found at a good local pool supply store.

same exact thing happened to mine! thanks for your video!! just a note, the face plate behind the impeller is held on by the loooooonnnggg screws in the back of the pump. dont hammer it off or the seals won't be right!
That's my exact model leaking from that exact spot. I am going to find that kit and give it a try .you probably saved me 300 big ones ..I am not hugely religious but God bless you for taking the time from your busy day to make this video , so unselfish
I used to repair and maintain pool and spa equipment 8 years ago, a job like this would be like $75-$125 plus materials. I’m sure it costs more now, this is a easy fix that saves you good money.

Good video but please don't hammer the pump casing off as shown. Remove it with the 4 looooooong screws and then press the 4 clip-tangs of the holding piece then you won't damage the tangs and the chance for the pump housing to be damaged will not ocurr.
It worked for me tx again,the old seal for me(the one without the spring) came apart and part of it was still attached.i thought I had the wrong size new seal because it wouldn't slide on due to part of the old seal still being in place.i used a flat screwdriver to pry off the remainder of the old seal,and I was set. I have 3 or 4 other leaks in my system but that's typical of me and plumbing and they are minor compared to that now fixed pump leak
@@triple9finestacker631 Maybe the shaft was too corroded and the seal didn't seal it. You might have to go back and do it over. Or unfortunately you might have to buy a new pump. Don't hate the pool, it's just the pump.
I just did this exactly as you showed in the video, now that I hooked it back up, no more water leaking but the pump is taking in air somehow. I keep having to release a bunch of air from the filter tank. Any ideas why?
I believe that is normal. I open the valve at the top of the filter, let the air out and then the water starts coming out. If it is excessive you might want to go to a pool supply store with knowledgable people and ask them. Sorry I don't have the answer.
No sorry. From what I know once the bearings are shot, you might as well buy another pump. But I never attempted to do that so don't take my word for it and look for more info on the web. Good luck.
Hi Bravo, I have taken mine apart and am wondering, how do you know if it’s the actual seal assembly that is bad? How can you tell? Mine was leaking around the bottom middle.
That's usually where it leaks when the seal is bad. The seal is not that expensive so changing it won't hurt. If it is still leaking and you put it back together correctly then the case might be cracked. So take your time put it back together correctly and it will probably be ok. Good luck.
@@juliodavid49 thanks, one more question. That metal piece that comes with the spring part. Do I have to pry the old one off the impeller? It seems stuck on but I haven’t really tried hard to pry it.
Yes I did. Those pliers I used are for removing the oil filter from a car. You can order them online or buy them at the auto supply. You have to be careful using them so you don't crack the impeller. Good luck.
Don't know. I would think you would need a bigger pump for an in ground but I'm not sure. I would check with the local pool supply store, they should know.
@@juliodavid49 that's okay. I appreciate the reply. Since it's quite a bit lighter I am assuming that it would be quite a bit more efficient in terms of watts per hundred gallons or some such.
Hey thanks for the video but I do have a question. As I was taking mine apart I could not get the back cover off because the hex/flat screws are in deep and I couldn’t fix a nut driver in and a flat wouldn’t work. What size nut driver are the screws at the back where the cord comes out?? Thanks
The model I have has only one screw 10mm socket and its not recessed. I think the one you have is a different model. All these pumps look alike but are not assembled the same way. Try using a thick flat screw driver so you don't strip the screws. Also spray some penetrating oil and leave over night to see if it loosens them. Sorry if this does not help you.
You failed to explain that the inner seal goes in a specific way, the same way it comes out, so you must be careful as to how it is inserted and you didn't explain how to INSTALL the inner seal of that you must use a small coating of pool lube. Also you failed to explain the two steps needed to swap out the impeller seal with spring assembly. You have to REMOVE the small metal barrel attached to the impeller that the new spring mounts to, using a vise grip or some other similar tool.
Sorry I FAILED at all of these procedures that you are pointing out. I am not a professional pool pump repairman nor did I claim to be. It seems that maybe you are? Not sure why you seem to be so upset and YELLING at me, but I repaired the pump 4 years ago and it is still working fine with no leaks. A few people have done the same with the help of my video and have gotten good results, so I'm not sure why you are so UPSET.
