Hope you're doing well, have not seen your RU-vid videos in awhile! Love your testing but you're making a huge mistake. Start testing actual products just like the Project Farm guy does on RU-vid! You don't have to copy his format but if you start methodically testing popular fishing products your channel would become a smash hit worldwide over night! I suggest you start testing terminal tackle such a fishing lines, swivels, and quick connects. Did some testing of my own today and was shocked to find out my Billfisher brand stainless steel quick-connect swivels rated to 90 pounds are breaking at 43 pounds. These QC swivels sell near me $15 for three, which is extraordinarily expensive. It is unacceptable that they are failing at less than 50% of their stated specification. Exposing these liars would make you an internet sensation! (Note: Tried to send this message through your website but it did not go through. In it I incorrectly said the bad swivel was an Offshore Angler brand. The correct brand is Billfisher.)
Hi Warren. I just watched another video that came to the same conclusion about using only barrel wraps for single wire connections. However, in the comments, the author said that you could saturate the coils with super glue to almost double the strength of the connection. Theoretically, this could increase the friction between the coils and the standing wire, reducing the slippage. Do you think that this "fix" could work?
Hi Marcello, I guess some people just do not like the front end of the haywire twist, they just like the barrel wraps, I had another fisherman in the UK reach out and he was adding stinger hooks using single strand to his spoons and lures which works well and is popular in South Africa. He also did not like the length of the haywire twist and asked about just using barrel wraps, which of course I said the initial twists is what gives the connection all of its strength. As far as glue goes or even super glue, the surfaces will not create a bond for metal so I would have a guess it would not add enough strength to even think of trying it, Barrel wraps just slip so easily. I will test this at some point and will be very open minded. Do you have any idea what glue he used? Tightlines

Hi Kyle, kind words indeed. Yeah it took ages if I am honest, probably 5 - 6 days in total excluding script and planning the episode. I enjoy doing them one day I should have a nice library for fisherman to dip in and out for some real data on these knots and hopefully it will gain traction as I get older. Great to see this new video and it doesn't disappoint. The production values and the sheer amount of work you put into these videos are clearly evident. My only slight quibble is that the sound level was lower than usual so I had to use full volume even through earbuds. I suspect that the very loud wire breaks might have influenced this. Now we need the best connection to the leader/main line for the haywire twist. I use either a Sampo swivel or solid ring depending on how I'm fishing. My first haywire twists were made using the excellent Dubro tools but it wasn't long before I found that it was quite easy to do them with pliers. I don't even know where the Dubro twist tools are now though I still keep the tool I bought for straightening the wire, something that's occasionally required. Another thing I'd be interested in is people's experience with 49 strand wire vs solid wire under different conditions. I use stranded for trolling chugger style lures since they seem to get better action but have had good results with solid wire on the heavy bullet lures that are good for fast trolling for wahoo or big mackerel. For sharks I've used both but have switched to light chain as it does less damage to the fish, important when releasing.
Hi Brian, thank you for the kind words. Yes indeed it takes ages to do these episodes but I am hope many people will benefit from the hard work in years to come. I just had a listen on my TV, laptop and desktop with and without headphones seemed okay I have the volume roughly 30/100 and it was okay. I appreciate the sound quality is a has a little echo and the room I film in is solid concrete so it does make it tricky. I do wish I new someone locally to me who could help with the sound but it is a really specialist thing. Yes I will try and tame the wire breaks for future episodes as the camera is literally on top of the filming when doing all the macro stuff. @@toitfishing No problem with the little echo, it was just quieter all the way through for me as I had the volume near maximum when I normally use under half. It might be a RU-vid thing as maybe 25% of videos I watch now seem to have lower sound levels. I was thinking that the loudness of the wire snaps might have been used in some sort of volume averaging algorithm. I actually liked the loud wire snaps as they emphasized just how much tension was on the wires when they finally let go. Again, thanks for the great video and keep up the excellent work. Tight lines.
