I met Haywood on campus at Pratt Institute when I was a freshman in 1982 !! He offered to help me carry my stuff (a large painting) What a sweet guy ! Was a total fan of the show and it was a kick running into him.

Hey...hey...hey. I can hear in my head exactly how Haywood paused a beat between these 3 words each time he said them. I even use these words at times when greeting people. It's crazy how certain iconic phrases from TV shows can still be recognized. Every interview you do with these classic shows (the 70's me) is my childhood. As a 70's kid, we watched a lot of these shows on our 4 channels that we got on our console TV. I have a few classis TV series on DVD and this is one of them. Now I need to break them out again and watch them. As I watched this interview, I felt the time went way to fast. Please do another with Haywood, Danielle Spencer and Ernest Thomas. Thanks John for all the good memories and tidbits your interviews produce. I look forward to more!

Your interviews are among the best part of my days. I gotta say though, I was thrown by part of the parenthetical title: ("Hysterical"). That word didn't prepare me for one of the most insightful and even instructive interviews you've ever done. Mr. Nelson is a wonder. An. Absolute. Wonder. He's so knowledgeable about so many aspects of the business - in terms of the art AND the nuts & bolts workings - and dissects in a way that is completely accessible but all encompassing as well. It's just fascinating to hear all the people he's worked with and yet Mr. Nelson makes it all sound so matter-of-fact. Hearing about his life made me think "well what have I done!" and I'm saying that in a very complimentary way. "Hysterical" conjured images of a laugh riot about to take place; such an awesome surprise to find a completely different interview than I expected!

Thank you for your kind words, that means a lot. So glad you took away so much depth from my interview with Haywood. Haywood has lived and continues to live a life that is ever changing and that is inspiring to me as well😀

Another incredible interview. Could've listened to Haywood stories for another hour or 2. The Fred Berry stuff couldn't have been more cool. Incredible raconteur! Suggestions for future - Mindy Cohn (Fact of Life), Lauri Hendler (Gimme a Break & game show legend), Jill Whelan (Love Boat), Meredith Baxter (Family Ties AND Family), Missy and/or Tracey Gold (Benson, Growing Pains), Lydia Cornell (Too Close for Comfort), Allison Smith (Kate & Allie - incredibly underrated show AND 1 of original Annies on Broadway), David Garrison (Married with Children & cult fav It's Your Move), Khrystyne Haje (or anybody from Head of the Class), Tim Reid (WKRP, Frank's Place), Allyce Beasley or Curtis Armstrong (Moonlighting), William Katt (cult fav Greatest American Hero), Willie Ames (Eight is Enough AND Charles in Charge) or anybody from Eight is Enough, Jay Johnson or Sal Viscuso (Soap), Karen Austin (original Night Court cast & Summer Rental) - one of few remaining from Night Court unfortunately, Ann Jillian (It's a Living, Gypsy), John Ratzenberger (Cheers, Superman, Empire Strikes Back)
