i think that at the time, the nation was so enthralled with what had been going on in Seattle with the grunge scene, so many ppl missed out on the treasure trove of music that was going on just a few hours south. Heatmiser, Pond, No. 2, Sleater Kinney, Everclear, Beat Happening, Dead Moon, Hazel, Crackerbash, Napalm Beach, Dharma Bums, the Dandy Warhols, & i'm sure i'm forgetting some noteworthy artists. It really was an incredible scene between Portland & Olympia in the late 80's thru mid 90's. It's probably fair to count Pavement & Built to Spill in the mix as well.
@infected puss in what way is it not? I know Portland has changed a lot even sense I have grown up and wanted to move I choose not to because I know it wasn't like this but I am curious from your perspective how it is no longer like this....
This music seems to be some kind of simple-hearted isle amidst many of todays over-produced, high-gloss, dehumanised music...simple, and yet so deep in a very human way!
Standin on my head, and I'm waitin I'm waitin, I'm waitin Can't you see I'm hangin I'll probably starve to death while I'm waitin I'll be here till next year, yeah I'm waitin I'm waitin I'm waitin I don't mind I don't think that I mind I don't mind I don't think that I mind The crowning glory was Easter Sunday afternoon and I'm waitin, about to get with you Yeah I'm waitin I'm waitin You always leave me hangin I guess I don't mind if I'm hangin around you but I don't mind I don't think that I mind I don't mind I don't think that I mind I led your soul out While I like to go and pretend and pretend That you must know that I'm waitin I'm waitin You always leave me hangin I'll give it up, in hopes that You were never soaked but
I moved to Seattle in '94 and left in '03. What a great time in the City and in my life. Hazel was one of the bands that I tried to see often, for the music and for Fred too.
Third Herd Fred is the dancer guy. He was a ‘member’ of the band and toured with them but I’m pretty sure he just danced rather than made music with them, if that makes sense.
Fell in love with Hazel while feeling trapped in small town central Illinois as a teenager. Feeling nostalgic for my early days as a Portlander, 20 years ago, when that very field of flowers from the beginning of the video was my favorite part of my commute to the big pink tower on 5th and Burnside.
I first heard Hazel back in the 90’s cause a friend used to live in the us and brought back a tape (im from Brazil). Its 2024 and i still listen to it….suck a great band.
