@@yogeurts66 I like to break down big purchases by a "cost per use" basis. So, if I spend, say, $300 on the big map with a bunch of neato markers and units, and then play the game once with 5 friends, that's six people playing the game for 12 hours (1936) which is 72 hours of enjoyment. That equals about $4/hr, and that's with ONE game. My 1939 map is at an approximate cost of 25 cents per hour...which is WELL worth the cost! If you have a solid gamer group who like these sorts of games, I say "Go for it!"

Hello Al, they used to sell a package of units required for 1939, but it ran about $160, and no one was buying it because most people interested in the game would already have a good supply of units, and would only be looking to add a few special pieces here and there. Also, to sell the big map with all the units would probably cost over $350, and that would scare off most folks. "Start with the map and any A&A pieces you have, and add as needed" seems to be the direction they are taking. Thanks for commenting!

We are also working on a revised edition of the rules, but the base set is pretty good!

Hello, Axis and Alloys, I think there are some crucial points to consider when choosing between the two: 1939 will typically take less time, and requires less units, and requires fewer trips to the rule book, while 1936 typically takes more than one day to play properly (full game), there is a plethora of units and markers needed, and there is a much larger and more in-depth rules set. So, if you want a more immersive experience that can span a couple of days (or more), go with 1936. If you want to set up and get rolling, 1939 is your game! I hope that helps!

Hello Jayden, those neato Canadian pieces are from the old, old game "World At War". VERY expensive game that was pretty good for its time (a sort of variation on A&A). I scooped a few armies from that one!

After Paris falls, you roll a d12 for every French territory. A result of 1-6 gives you a Vichy territory, and 7-12 is Free French. If Marseilles goes Free French, the Germans tend to crush it the next round anyways. Remember: if Germany saves 5 IPP's and rolls Vichy for Marseilles, they can purchase two infantry and one tank for that 5 IPP! Great deal!

Hello Derek, both games are found at HistoricalBoardGaming.com The main difference is depth of play. 1939 is more for those who want simple military and economic decisions, while 1936-45 goes much further into the political realm, which can affect a great many things. 1939 is closer to A&A in mechanics, while 1936 could be its own entity.
