The VRD setting just keeps you from electrocuting yourself in wet conditions. It stands for "Voltage Reduction Device" and basically drops the voltage to a safe level when you're not welding and the circuit is open. Its more important to turn it on when you're stick welding while you're standing on a puddle of water. It should have no affect on the weld quality.
I just purchased this as my first welder. I like the LCD screen and the auto settings to help me get a starting point on learning to weld. I’ll be doing flux core to start and hope to add gas later. Great video!
@@nickdrozd so far so good. Easy to use, for sure. I’ve been using the pre-set settings and getting familiar with how hot the flux core mig gets and learning how that relates to the thickness of the steel as I weld. Just practicing using scrap steel now. I have a Jeep that I want to be able to fix and modify long-term.
Hey Blake first off good video I don't think u realize the you have set up the gun polarization wrong you have set it for gas not flux core gun should be set negative and ground is positive that's why so much splatter. V roller for solid wire u for aluminum and get knurled roller for flux core try that it will be night and day .hope that helps.

Nice video. Double check the polarity settings on that fluxcore it is supposed to be electrode -. I have been looking at this welder,hope you do some stick with it 6010 and 7018.
@@FourpointCustomWorks 7018 runs fantastic on this machine. 6010 probably will not run well. Most people don't need 6010 unless they are welding rusty/oily/dirty farm equipment. I recommend the spoolgun for the aluminum (it isn't expensive). Syn = is short for Synergic. I recommend a better ground clamp and a better stick stinger. Also if you are doing a lot of flux core you should buy a "K" roller = knurled and is designed for flux core. Also i recommend nozzle dip and anti spatter spray for flux core. So far i have been extremely happy with mine. It just works.
@Jon McNabb I got some nozzle lube and splatter spray will look for a K roller as well the ground clamp I got and the stinger I got a good one on my old stick welder going g to switch out ,thanks for the info greatly appreciated 👍
