Working conditions in the VFX industry are harsh as studios are working to prevent that part to organise. That's part of the reason why they can afford to make an amazing piece like this for SNL. Also, this is of course orders of magnitude cheaper than the "real" VFX that goes into cinematic projects, because the subtle honing of fine details is what makes it real hard, and stuff like this is always a bit rough on the edges.

I think that's kind of the joke. It's basically making fun of Neil Druckman and saying calling him a master storyteller is akin to calling the Mario Kart "writers" master storytellers. They're saying that if you make something look grungy and badass and cast Pedro people will eat it up. It's funny, but I don't agree with it.

Luigi's Mansion is a different series of games where once finished hunting the ghost within, Luigi is given a mansion. The mansion from the first fame lloks exactly like this so I'd say excellent research done here. 😃
