Pete Hendricks of Hendrix Classics & Co. sent me some budget/travel items, at no cost to me, and wanted my opinion of them. This video is my review.

I can appreciate Hendrix having things on their website 'for the beginner' or as something we can put together as gifts for a beginner. It's actually making me think if I can get my local friends to even talk to me about this necessary hobby of ours again what kinda of cheap kit I could put together to get them started. It's definitely a conversation starter. It truly is remarkable the number of blades out there. I had never heard of those blades until this video. Even with the number of blades I have I'm tempted by those Vi-John and Statum's.

I totally agree that a cheap yet effective "starter kit" is appealing to keep on hand as a gift. Honestly, I think the gift itself is the perfect ice breaker to have someone begin to listen to someone about wet shaving. Oh man the number of blades out there is astonishing! Makes one wonder if many are just rebranded? They would have to be right? Only so many manufacturers out there. I guess maybe the difference is in any coating or edge type? Blades are a research rabbit hole unto itself lol.

I've also used the Old Spice shaving cream last year also found the scent lackluster. As with blades, it's amazing how a certain blade would perform horrible in one razor but great in another, that's why I always test a blade in multiple razors to find the best combination, and then I make sure to take note of all the combinations

I thought this was useful. I had not heard of some of those items. One, small, nit-picking comment, the black/dark chair and your shirt were the same color. At times, it looked like you had traps bigger than Arrrnold’s 😂. Does not take anything away from the content. Thanks as always.

Yeah I had noticed that in editing. During recording the image was brighter. I could have adjusted it during editing but forgot. The only thing I have bigger than Arnold is my belly!

Hello Bary, finally I saw your shave fridge. Great call for this very underappriciated safety razor. In my experience it is a lot milder than a Mühle R89 but more efficient. The chinese Gillette super blue version is even more affordable. I should break out the Gillette super blue for the next shave. The safety razor I use for travelling is usually a three piece Baili 176.

I haven't used these shave creams enough to thoroughly comment, though here is my take. Just like Bary said, it gets the job done fairly well, but doesn't compare to high quality artisan shave soap. Where I find them to be lacking relative to artisan soap is the lack of cushion. For me, cushion is how well the product protects your skin. If using good technique, the symptoms of poor cushion are nicks, razor burn and/or a feeling of discomfort after shaving. I got these items for starter kits and travel, though I do see these creams in SOTDs from time to time.

Once I got the creams dialed in, I had great shaves with them. One thing I barely mentioned though. If using a good pre-shave, the performance jumps up a lot!

Nice product reviews! I have not tried either of those creams. I have a couple tubes of TOBS that I often travel with.

@@alspencer2794 Soon. It's on the list to be made. I have a million tubs of unscented where the soap is hard like a triple milled soap. It works fine, you just have let it soak for a few minutes if you load your brush from the tub. I'll give you that at no charge. There is nothing wrong with the soap, though it isn't what people expect from HCC so we don't sell it.

Moin Bary! Nice Video and great review. Is it possible, that the Willys blades had been tucky, because you used them for the first shave and you had to get used to the light weight razor?! Because I know, If the razor is light by weight it can feel tucky and you need a little bit of pressure like with aluminium razors. By the way I watched the whole video and didn' t skip forward - it was'n t to long and nice to watch. Keep the good work up. Greetings from Germany 👋🏻 Christian

Howdy Chritian! Thats why I put all 3 videos together. I realized I wasnt properly revewing the products since I had not used them before. So I delayed posting each video and used all the products for 4 more days. I got a better shave from the Willys after that. It's a good blade, I just find others more comfortable for me. @@ATexanShaves Bary I don't like many Indian or Chinese blades too - most of them feel dull. It is interesting that many, like you and me like the Treet Platinum blades from Pakistan so much - very smooth and sharp enough and great in price too. Will watch your other videos the days. I wouldn't necessarily call them entry level. Some people can not afford, or want to spend the money for an artisan soap or cream. There are some low cost options. RazoRock and Proraso for example. But these low cost, travel friendly creams and razor are a great addition to offer for any soap artisan. It doesn't compete with their product, and is a great way to introduce new wet shavers to their site and products but through a low cost doorway. It also offers existing customers with travel friendly products. As far as what is he up to? He didn't want his own opinion of these products to be the deciding factor as to which ones he will stock. So he sent them out to a handful of us to review and to let him know what we thought. I was honored he asked me. But I can understand why you ask the question though and I hope I helped you to understand. Thank you as always sir!

Advertising that infers that using it will 'make you a man' bothers me. I feel like that marketing is punching below the belt. The handle on the Gillette Sterling is most definitely cheapish. Great for travel as it's light. The head on this razor will take a regular handle. I like this razor head and may get some handles and sell it as a unit.
