HCC 59: Homemade Flag Pole

I had an old paint pole jammed in a stump that was used as the flagpole at our house. Well, that didn’t make it through a round of heavy wind, so it was time to build a new one, I used mostly stuff that I had around the garage already. So, this made it a very inexpensive job. It was a simple project to do and turned out great!

That is awesome. I have considered building my own flagpole as well. The hard part for me is to figure out where exactly in my front yard do I want to put it. I know that sounds dumb but I think it's all about the presentation. Sadly, no one in my neighborhood has one so I have nothing to go by. Thanks for sharing.

I love the way you critique yourself throughout on how unsafe this was. It makes me think that you may have realized that it wasn't so safe when you watched it for the narration. This is a great project and very creative. I have been looking for a decent flag pole to hang on the side of my house. This gives me some good ideas how to make one without spending the big bucks.

Thanks for the video. A lot of good ideas that will be useful in the flagpole project I am planning. And a big thank you for including the important point on illumination and general flag etiquette. What did you decide on for the finish of the concrete base?

Great! I'm glad you were able to take some inspiration for your own design. I hope you let me know how it turns out. As for the base, I just put a coat of the same parging I used on the house foundation and then a cap stone.

This is exactly what I was trying to figure out how to do on my own. I'm looking forward to doing this project. What are the dimensions of the PVC you used for the spinning portion of attaching the flag?

Inch and a half I think, but don't go by me exactly. This was just what I did. You must get what you need to make it work for your materials

@@amereaglepa Actually, I just hook the top flag hook into the bottom pole ring. That puts the flag at half staff, but thanks for the comment. It's a very good point.

I don't think plastic would be rigid enough for a tall pole outside

I would have turned the bottom holder upside down. So the spinner couldn't slide up. Other than that good job.

Thanks, but I thought of that too. Flag still got tangled that way. I don't mind if the flag rides up a little on high wind. Better than wrapping around the pole.
