I must comment on the price point for the Mobile Command Center and comment on the vehicles with action figures offered in 1987: The MCC was listed as $44.99, the Defiant Space Shuttle Complex was around $100, the Persuader was $16.99 (I remember because i was persuaded to buy a Cobra Wolf instead), and the Crossfire R/C was more on exclusive Radio Shack offering which I understand was about $25. There was not much offered by way of medium priced vehicles for G.I. Joe side. I can just hear my Mom saying "You can either get the Persuader or the Persuader." COBRA in as may weird vehicles and figures offered in 1987 had some variety. Zanzibar and the Air Skiff- $11, Cobra Wolf- $16.99, Sea Ray- $16, Cobra Maggot- $21.99, Cobra Mamba- $24.99. The Battle Force 2000 vehicles didn't come with figures were launched at the end of the year. Where were the mid-price point G.I. Joe vehicles? I think part of re-examining the downturn in sales for G.I. Joe in 1987 should look at these vehicle/driver offerings. I can say with the exception of the Sea Ray, I owned all of the Cobra vehicles and none of the G.I. Joe vehicles from 1987.

Jason Kerest I was 11 in 87’ , and stopped collecting for the most part, and barely played anymore. My friends n I would wrestle with them in the WWF ring, with stuff around it to bash. Anyways, I had all those u listed, except for the Persauder. And the giant sets were far above what I could get, unless I elated to save for a year- which is impossible for most at that age. Even if we had the money...or even if I had it, Mom wouldn’t allow $100 toy to be bought. The wolf was sleek n bad ass and cool looking, but not practical for everyday play.

Thanks for the prices in 1987. I remember what things cost between 1992 to 1994 but I was too young to vividly remember any prices from the 80s.

I had thought the DOG was a parody of CAT logos from Caterpillar caps that were popular at the time and jibe with his use of those heavy machines noted on the file-card. Fun review I have Steam-Roller and would love to try for the full MCC one day. Was a dream toy all those years ago.

Well HCC you did it again and I hope you get a commission for all the toys that get sold after you review them! Coupled with the Joburg and Cyber-Tigers reviews of the Vehicle I picked up a fixer-upper that will be a future stress relief project when its here. I am already figuring out the desk space it will occupy and may take the place of my largest AT-AT Walker on the shelf! I love the 1987 vibe and its one of the vehicles I long lusted for in the old catalogs and now its on its way to me.

In the 1987 G.I. Joe movie there is a scene during the attack on G.I. Joe headquarters where Cobra La and the Dreadnoks break into a building to steal the BET that looks like the shell of the Mobile Command Center without the wheels.

As a kid, my cousins and I always imagined this was permanently in vehicle mode and that the fold out base mode was just a way of representing what was going on inside. I love the amount of features this thing has, and your review made me take another look at just how much extra effort was put into Steamroller, but I have to say I wish they could have used some of that new tooling and deco in service of a more interesting character. I never really got why GI Joe needed a stereotypical trucker on the team.

The melt damage is actually from the Mobat tank treads. The plastic used to make these toys melted rather easy when stored in a shed or attic.

It always looked cool in the commercials and the catalogs... Back when we were kids though, we were of, let's say, more modest means... Not poor, we didn't go without, never went hungry, and actually had a lot of toys, didn't even dare to dream of asking for it though... $50 was even more back than than it is today. Still like seeing it all opened up though. Great video as always!

Fantastic; the big annual review is always a highlight of the year. I remember seeing the MCC in one of the mini-catalogues one Christmas and I couldn't believe the size of it. I was only able to get the re-release from about 2002, but I'm happy with it.

Hey Hoodie! I've been watching your channel for the last year. Figured I'd post and set a toe in the Joe community with this first review of the year. Three points: 1. Great and detailed review as always. Thanks for the effort, care and enthusiasm. 2. You mention that air craft don't fit well on the helipad. Does this include the Locust? I know it's a 1990 vehicle, but maybe the Locust was designed to fit the 1987 MCC as well as the General? 3. I can't blame you for getting me back into Joe collecting, but I can thank you for giving a moribund collection a new life and direction. After watching your Ambush review and your Outback review, I decided to focus on Joes and Enemy agents with facial hair. So far it's been a fun niche to build. Like I wrote above, with the new year I thought I try being more social with my hobbies. Best of luck in 2019.

The best vintage playset (in my humble opinion) was the Action Force HQ which was basically the pit from GI Joe. It was awesome HCC! a remodelling of the Death star playset from Kenner (Star wars had just come out and was still popular) This playset had some awe inspiring utilitarian looking real-life military looking features and compartments. a holding cell, a motor pool, a heli-pad, arctic room ,zip line, x-ray scan room, a quartermaster's office and so much more. My Dad reluctantly bought it for me for Xmas one year as he wasn't happy that it was made out of cardboard, however he was pleasantly surprised when it transpired that it was fairly robust despite the material it was made from and lasted over 10 years with pretty much consistant play use. You would have loved it! dunno what happened to it in the end, it probably got chucked when I moved out (although my parents did keep a lot of my Joes stuff and still have them in their attic) I would've donated it to you and your channel to review if I still had it, but keep an eye out for it on the after market. Much love to you and your family and keep up the good work. you are one of my fave channels and I have never been disappointed by your content

There is no way this thing is driving anywhere. What road could it fit on? Under what bridge could it fit? Maybe a bunch of Tomahawks could carry it with tow lines, but it would use too much fuel and drive too slow to be a vehicle. But this review was way better than the actual toy. You really brought back some great memories, Commander!

I had this as a child and loved it. I played with it as a mobile desert command center for the Joes. I would pretend that they would drive this out into the desert into areas they had little to no support in and would have them set this up as there base/barracks/refuel/re supply base. I used the long hose as the fuel hose, and the two shorter hoses as water and oil hoses to service and repair the vehicles that accompanied it on missions.

Man, I'm just loving this channel more and more. I straddled 2 GI Joe time frames. Started with the 70's action team. Had a "footlocker" Joe, too. Loved the rebirth in the 80's, though, by that time I had moved into other interests as well. Hama's comic book is excellent. Think I'll have to be a patron to this page! Keep up the great work, HCC!!!

I was able to get the Spy Troops version, loose, complete - I think, for a decent price! It's my biggest Joe vehicle & I'm using it for my Joe's main base. Really happy, Hasbro re-released it in 2002. A loose 87 one would feel more brittle, I think. All my pre-owned 80's Joe vehicles feel very fragile. While I have other big vehicles that can serve as a mobile base, such as the Rolling Thunder & the ROCC, the MCC is the best choice. I did not get the Pit from from ROC 09, I don't like the design nor the play features very much.

Great review! I like this vehicle/play set! It has no hitch, a lousy elevator, and the helipad is too small, but I think the fold-out feature made it very interesting. The Steamroller figure could've been a top-tier figure if the knife would've been sculpted on or had a sheath for it molded on the figure. They should've made that silver revolver removable also. I think Hasbro missed a great opportunity with this figure and made it as a middle-tier figure. I guess doing so was against their tight budget.

I got this for Christmas when I was a kid. I was so happy. My parents didn't buy me vehicles very often--especially not the bigger expensive ones. I still have it, but had to buy some parts off eBay that I had lost over the years. You don't need to remove the missiles on the turret to close the top. Also, a Sky Hawk will fit nicely on the helipad.

Cool toy, never purchased. In the comics, the second PIT location, third version of the PIT, was revealed in 1987, the same year as this toy. The second PIT location was in the Nevada (?Arizona/Utah?) desert. This toy could have been Hasbro's attempt to convey there is a desert command center. Less than 20 issues later, the toy appears in the comics. Treads and the cockpit probably were a late edition to the toy. It would be easy to tell. Look at the bottom of the crawler and then measure the height the wheels lift the toy. Then measure the legs and see if there is a section added to the legs which matches the height the wheels lift the toy. Easy peasy! Great review!!!!

Awesome review (as always). I did notice one other cost cutting feature. On the mechanical wall of level 1, on the side opposite the fuel pumps, you can see the mold of the twin engines from the Cobra Trouble Bubble. They appear to be split open length wise to form parallel tubes about the height of an action figure. I had the MCC as a kid and used it exclusively as a base and NEVER used it as a vehicle.

These vintage playlets are so cooler than the modern one we got. I got the PIT from live action 2009 movie. I got it for a pittance and I haven't even opened it. The PIT looks like a trailer than a mobile command centre. This was Hasbro's last chance at reviving the brand in a big way. It's 2019, sigh.

Hey HCC, just watching this again and would just like to point out on the sticker which on yours is on the cab windows. In the Action Force version it shows you to put it on the area above the window link on the box art. I fine it interesting how there is different sticker placement.

I always used the helicopter that came for the General as a transport between the two vehicles. It fit nicely the way you had it crossways.

Excellent review of an underrated playset I fell in love with this vehicle when gijoburg did the review of the 2003 set and had to get one but in 2018 I was able to get another and complete it to make a custom iron grenadier mcc which I’m currently working on

Wow....$50!? Man I always wanted this vehicle/playset but alas I never got it. I was only 8 at the time so I couldn't buy it myself and needed someone to get it for me. Some friends had it and it was so much fun to play with.

It seems like in '87 that Hasbro went really big with the MCC & Defiant for GI Joe and Scorponok & Fort Max for the Transformers.

I owned the MCC myself and I admit never used it as a vehicle either, it was just to cumbersome to transform over and over again, the only time I converted it in to vehicle mode was to store it. How does Steam-roller, damage the pins? I'm guessing the .44 that he has on him. lol Why worry about a 7 -10 split when you can just shoot the other one down to pick up the spare.

The low "bumper" could be for mines... JS

i might have missed it in the video and not sure if it was specified in the blueprintsor mentioned in the comments, but maybe the hoses are Air, Fuel, and water? anyway, great channel! Always love discovering new Joe content creators!

I have some pieces from my childhood collection that have similar "battle damage." Pretty sure my vintage stuff got this while being stored in hot attics. Basically if the pieces were packed up against each other when it got really hot one would give and the other would act as the waffle press.

I think the bumper is a kind of mine sweeping apparatus of some kind. Maybe to protect the wheels behind it.

Breaker breaker, this is the Rubber Duck and we got ourselves a convoy! What a terrible looking figure, no wonder you forgot about him. Looks more like a Dreadnok than a Joe lol. But the MCC, what a wonderful playset! I think they should have spread out those seats in the driver's cabin, take advantage of those side windows. And having a AWE striker replacement motor in the motor pool, they should have shown the AWE Striker rather than the Triple-T, no offense Sarg. Great review Hoodie! See ya! Yo! HOODIE CO CO!
