I love Elvis’ style & the way he skates to the music! 👍🏻

Those artistic marks are a joke from some of those iron curtain counties. No attempt to hide the favouritism. Elvis wasn't especially known for his artistry but this program was so well choreographed . It's actually quite beautiful.

ferdyspears " Actually quite beautiful " ? I think it is the most beautiful, inspiring and powerful skating performance that I have ever seen. I still remember watching this performance live. It completely blew me away. I have never seen a performance to compare to it since. He may have been robbed of the gold, but this performance transcends medals. What a thrill to see it again after all these years!

Agreed. They wanted ballet, he gave them kung fu. Even if you can't accept Elvis' more "modern" style of skating, you can clearly see Urmanov just ran out of gas in his FS. Such a tragedy. If there is an consolation, Elvis went on to win 3 world titles another olympic medal and is by far more revered in the world of skating than Urmanov.

This program is a masterpiece. The judges were provincial, politically manipulative bigots.

even with that popped jump which should have been a triple axel and then he turned the planned quad into a triple axel triple toe combination, it was still the most technically impressive program in the free skate. nobody did what he did technically that night. they were going to give it to Urmanov, it wouldn't have mattered.

I never liked Elvis Stojko, in large part because of his cocky attitude and how he bad-mouthed other skaters in the press after he retired. Classless and unprofessional. In spite of that, even I can admit Elvis should have won gold here. This was as close as the men's Olympic event has even been to a tie, and for many years I believed Urmanov was the rightful winner. Both men missed a jump in their LP, and they both replaced those jumps, each ending up with seven triples. All else being equal, Urmanov had better skating skills with posture, jump/landing position, etc. so I felt that justified him getting the gold. That is until someone pointed out that while both skaters missed a jump in their LP and replaced it, Urmanov missed a triple flip and replaced it with the easier triple toe loop, while Stojko missed a triple Axel and replaced it with another triple Axel. Not only that, but Urmanov did not do a triple-triple combination; he did a triple Axel - double toe loop, while Stojko did a triple Axel - triple toe loop. There is no question Elvis' LP was more technically difficult. As such, he should have gotten the gold. While both skaters did contrasting styles of programs, Urmanov with a classical routine and Stojko with a contemporary one, Stojko's choreography was just fine for that style of music and presentation. They were apples and oranges artistically, but each solid in their own right. So as much as I don't like Stojko, he probably should have gotten the gold. It makes sense why so many people said 1994 was the year the judges got all the figure skating gold medals wrong, and I would agree, especially with ladies and pairs, too. Nancy Kerrigan was robbed, but that's another story.

Overscored like Elvis always was. One of the most overrated skaters ever.

lmao, I'm not an Elvis fan, but there are literally tons of skaters who competed against him that said he was seriously underscored and that they thought he was scored way too harshly.

I agree. Elvis was overrated. Not very graceful, with short arms and short legs.

monica I don’t think having short legs and arms is a problem.he was so athletic an amazing jumper the artistic marks were low for me. look at Shoma Uno and Nathan Chen now. Elvis medals were well deserved, he’s a legend.
