HD footage shows new angle of blast that rocked Beirut, Lebanon 

No one is talking about the loss of the fire fighters and police that arrived on the scene to extinguished the fire.

the slow-motion really shows how the shockwave from the explosion literally tore the concrete apart from the buildings near the blast zone.

To 2020 : when someone said, "can this year get any worse?" It was just rethorical question. Not a challenge

Listening to the fire engines rushing to get the fire that looks manageable and then later knowing their end is chilling. Prayers for Lebanon and the Lebanese people.

Hearing those sirens...and knowing those firefighters and first responders are about to be blown to smithereens..I wish I could tell and tell them to go back!!..they all died..all..this is heart breaking

My heart stopped when the explosion came. All buildings and windows shattered at the slightest impact. My prayers go to Lebanon

I suggest starting at around 8:50 and watching from there on in a playback speed of 0.25 or 0.50, you'll get both the small and the big explosion and get a very clear view of the shockwave.

The way everything disappeared and you could see glass and concrete go flying is amazing in terms of something having so much power to be able to do that but it’s very terrible for the people who died and are hurt. I feel really, truly bad for them.

The sound of bells mixed with the deathly chaos, how haunting. The fear and spiked adrenaline... I can only imagine. I’m so sorry.

If there is ever a fire, even a small one, in a port in a country where you are unsure of the countries regulations regarding the safe storage of explosive materials, get as FAR AWAY from the port area as you can. This is the third notable time that the unsafe handling of Ammonium Nitrate has caused this.

I just read, our German Technisches Hilfswerk (Specialists helping worldwide, when catastrophys happen) give up to search survivors. They travelled the day after to Libanon and worked hard. Many areas are not reachable to find survivors without too less heavy machines, where it was possible to search, only dead body's where found. The Shockwave was too heavy and they have never seen any similar before. What was a life safer, the silo next to the explosion absorbed a part of the energy, how big the effect was is hard to calculate.Sadly the food is destroyed, too. Right now the THW is checking the safety of buildings, Many of them are expected not to be repairable anymore and collapsing events might be possible. It's unbelievable what happened there and I am sad, although I am far away and don't know people from there. Sorry, I am not used to write English anymore, hope it's understandable.

I hope all the officials who warned about the dangerous material being stored kept their own written records in a safe place. If not, Lebanese government and port officials will be doing a coverup denying they knew or were ever told.

9:36 for the explosion. Definitely the most impressive shockwave (and demonstration of a shockwave) I've ever seen. You can see the fog like shockwave spread, hitting each building in turn bringing the incredibly destructive force rapidly towards the camera. A cool thing to watch on my phone but it must have been scary to have that tearing across the town towards you!

We had heard the blast in Limassol (Cyprus). We are situated North-West of Beirut at 250KM apart !!!

I live in Cyprus, and that's 210km from Beirut by sea. At first I felt a little shake like an earthquake (3.3 magnitude earthquake) and then, about 7 min later, I heard the blast itself. I honestly thought it was a big daylight firework somewhere far away..

We literally just watch the moment hundreds of lives were stolen away at once. In the beginning of the video they were all alive, living on their regular day. Some just working their daily hours, others heading home to/with their loved ones, or heading out to visit them, and even some just enjoying time at home or like the now viral video of the bride taking pictures in her beautiful gown others could have been doing the same or even be preparing for it.. The now departed had lives to live, a future to achieve and so much more.. It's terrifying to know how fast our lives can be ripped away or changed in the matter of a few mere moments and the silence that follows is louder than anything in the entire world.. There is no meaning to life, other than to just simply enjoy it and the people you love while you have them.

Rest In Peace to all the beautiful Lebanese people who died in this terrible explosion. We send love and support from the United States.

Hopefully all of you guys watching are okay, I wasn't that close from the explosion, only one of my windows was smashed in my apartment while I was gone. Thank god i wasn't there, when I returned home there were hundreds of little shards stuck in all the furniture that was around 5 meters away from the window.

This isn't even close to a nuclear bomb but just imagine how much more devastating a nuke would be... you'd literally be disintegrated.

i thought it was just a camera left there to film, and then i slowed it down to 0.25 playback and paused it at 10.18 and during one of those frames in that second theres a dude stood there taking the blast, nothing sinister to see, hope he is ok, i imagine if this footage is in your hands he was ok enough to get it in.

2020 is not even close to being the worst year ever, maybe the worst year of this century for now, but it ain’t no 1939-1945.

You can see how powerful the blast was. The camera moved at the exact moment of explosion before the wave hit everithing..crazy!! Can't imagine the trauma that everyone will live with. Stay strong!!!

This explosion was 1.5 kilotons, which was about 10% of the explosive power at Hiroshima at 15 kilotons.
