HAPPY HEAVY AIRCRAFT FRIDAY!!!
It feels good to write those words in the description of this video... I really enjoy the concept but my schedule has not allowed me to commit to continuously uploading a video of this genre every Friday for quite some time now like I used to several years ago.. I decided I would change that at least for this week with this surprise Friday video.
I went planespotting with my good friend Matt Cochran over this past weekend for our third annual video together at Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson Maynard Reid Keisha Lance Bottoms International Airport of Atlanta KATL/ATL and got a lot of footage. So much, in fact, that it might be a little while until I can upload the full-length feature and so I felt an appetizer for the main course was in order.
You will hear Matt in the background from time to time giving his signature narration of the airport
action which we all so enjoy.
This is filmed with a Sony AX-53 camera (brand new to me and I'm still getting used to it overall) from the 7th floor of the famous Renaissance Concourse Atlanta Airport Hotel on the north side of the airport. The runways in use you see are 8L-26R, 8R-26L (closest) and the 9-27s farther away.
Thanks for watching and HAPPY FRIDAY!!

I don't know what it is, but all the Delta heavies give me a good feeling. Especially the 777. As well, Delta's A350s are beautiful. No wonder they parade them around on their banners, posters, and commercials. I'm mostly a Boeing guy, but Delta really helps me appreciate Airbus. They got some good looking planes too.

I absolutely love this magnificent airport! It always has lots of action with some great views from inside! I mostly used Delta Airlines every summer when I travel on vacation, so ATL will most likely be the connecting hub for my flight into Melbourne, Florida. While I am there for the layover, I take as many pictures as I possibly can! God bless ATL!

Awesome videos man. I live in Gainesville, and have a perfect vantage point from my back porch facing South to see all the incoming and outgoing flights on the heavy days and nights (like tonight, I actually just came in from tracking a few on the apps, there were a lot tonight) I have 3 to 4 highly trafficked routes that I can see down range approx. 20-30 miles, and it would be awesome to see a panoramic shot, on a clear night with 4 to 5 planes lighting up each path in the distance. Definitely prime watching territory other than being there, most fly over around 10k

Be still my heart! Ever since I looked out my aircraft’s window and saw that Renaissance hotel, I have wanted to spend a weekend doing just what you and your friend did. Thank-you for a taste of your ultimate production to come. You really managed to put on a great show. You also have a very sweet new camera. I hope your ultimate post is in 2160p, 4K format. Just put your computer on “upload to RU-vid” and come back in a week once it has finished. I cannot believe that the name of Atlanta’s airport takes up half a paragraph, which is rather amazing to me. I do have one question for you, which was very difficult to discern by viewing your post. Just how much quieter is the A350, B787, and B747-8, with their advanced quiet technologies as compared to other aircraft? Anyway, thank-you again for sharing your video. I do look forward to viewing your final production when you are able to post it.

Great to hear from you again! This is the third time I've spotted at "The Renny" as we call it and yes, it is certainly worth it. The camera is awesome but I'm still working on getting the night filming down and adjustment of a few settings. But yes, overall very pleased. Unfortunately RU-vid itself seems to be the problem and the highest format I can upload right now is 4K 2160 that has been refined down to 1080pHD which is why there is no selection for that. Hopefully they an get that fixed eventually. haHA! yes, Matt and I have our own name for ATL which, as you can see here, is lengthy and is geared towards making fun of their need to name everything after something and everyone. The 787 reverse thrust is actually pretty loud but overall all three of those newer ones are really pretty quiet in comparison... perhaps I should consider adding a shotgun mic in future so you can hear engine sound better. The full ATL video is due for upload in a few days here.

How is this hotel on requesting the general location of the room? We live 6 hours away and planning a weekend trip to ATL but will be staying here. One of the things we look forward to most is a room with a spectacular runway view. I already booked a runway view room, but didn’t know if the views/experience is better at one end vs the other or lower vs higher floors. Are they good at accommodating requests? Thanks!

Excellent filming. The A350 killed... your friend in the back was going mental😂😂😂 How long did it take you to film without any tripod?
@OHAREAVIATION
@OHAREAVIATION 5 лет назад
yeahahah!! Matt is a blast to planespot with. We both are very passionate about airplanes and flight and have a bunch of experience spotting at a variety of different airports so we film well together. Each of us has our own style and they play off each other very well also. I have never used a tripod at all for planespotting even when starting out... so at first my videos weren't that good. But with practice and discipline comes success. The reason I never used a tripod is because spotting at O'Hare back in 2012-2013 when I started there always required grabbing shots with short notice and you needed to be able to be very flexible. Taking all the time to set up a tripod just wasn't a luxury you had when you had to leap out of the car and get a shot... NOW!

In the background of the second aircraft's taxi back, after turning right to get off the runway, you can see what might be a USAF SAM aircraft's nose parked inside the first hangar it passes. I don't know anyone else who uses that light blue color on the nose of their aircraft in that manner. Edit 1: corrected spelling.

Those pilots make it look pretty easy,but landing aircraft,"heavies", unlike takeoff, takes great practice., experience and expertise.(.note: which maybe sheds light on something I've often been puzzled;; by; why the 9/11 hijackers risked suspicion by opting to oddly omit from their training landing instruction, ,not wanting to bother with what they knew was a highly challenging and off course, not needed task)

I still think it's sad that Delta had to let go of their 777s prematurely.

If you want you’re videos to be amazing use flight radar 24 and show where the planes are coming from and what kind.
@OHAREAVIATION
@OHAREAVIATION 5 лет назад
BoZzie I used to do that more often and still might return to that at some point.... sometimes there isn’t enough room in the description for all of it though. And a lot of people who watch these already know what the aircraft types are. Perhaps flight number and destination would be more helpful?

yup! a number of Boeing aircraft from a bunch of different operators receive maintenance here at ATL. You'll also see a JANET red and white Boeing 737 such as is used to transport people to and from Area 51 in one of my ATL videos... I forget which one it is.

needs a bath... really helps fuel savings when you keep your airplanes aerodynamically clean.

That Delta 777 - N705DN departing, was about the filthiest plane I've seen in a long time. I thought Air France had the dirtiest planes, but this Delta, not a drop of shine on it, the flaps look like they haven't been cleaned in years, as does the body. Engine paint completely matte. What a shameful way to keep one's fleet.

I agree.... plus they miss out on important fuel savings with a dirty airplane as well. Thanks for stopping by!
