She said so herself, she was going through a bad phase during the first album and she admitted she was being a hypocrite when it came to pop. Now she knows what she wants to do.
Lol wow it's crazy and so true about the "heavy metal fans" liking her. I'm a guy and I normally listen to much heavier music, but there's just something about her unique style and the way she expresses herself that attracts everyone.
Stay weird Marina! We like it the way you are. Ok, time will prove quality and I'm really looking forward for her next stuff. I'm also glad that I've discovered her at a dawn of her career.
I was thinking the exact same thing... But she said she was completly wrong about that, and she really admires Katy Perry right now, she was really surprised to know that Katy Perry writes her own songs, directs her own videos, and plays instruments...
favourite interview of her, she is so real and easy for me to relate to here. To it me seems as in her new found fame (not saying it's a bad thing) that she's become very concealed and less opinionated.
You should be happy for Marina that she is growing as an artist, you cant stay with the same kind of material album after album people would get bored and she would go no where. She has taken a new approach to music she is still very much a pure artist with her music her new album is no truthful and raw.
"I'm not some bimbo squeaky pop queen." She still isn't and never will be. She is saying the same thing in Primadonna. She says it directly in this interview but in Primadonna, it's tongue-in-cheek.
i just find it really funny how she is so sassy and bitter towards mainstream pop and Dr. Luke, and a year later she is working with him and wanting to be a popsta. oh Marins xD
Lmao I love that comment about Marina saying she doesn't like Katy Perry or Dr Luke but she's worked with them now!I still love her so much! Things change!
Still, I don't think she's been COMPLETELY hypocritical about this. Her new album is pop with a couple of songs produced by Dr. Luke, but she hasn't traded her meaningful lyrics for generic songs about partying, sex and what have you. It's a concept album that observes female archetypes, definitely not something intended to shoot up the top of the charts. She's just become more open-minded to certain aspects of pop.
She has said she was trying to go in a completely different direction so maybe she chose the people she disliked most in music to work with to challenge herself? Anyway who gives a shit, she's amazing, end of.
