@@IWannaUnaliveMyselfit’s crazy how brainwashed Jordan fans are. I’m not saying Jordan wasn’t the best of his time but half of the guys guarding him were either smaller and not athletic or bigger and way less athletic not just compared to Jordan but compared to the average player today. When Jordan met a rare match of someone who was also a 6’6 or bigger elite athlete he didn’t look so dominant.
@@juju-vl7oj THIS THIS THIS THIS^^^^^^ Yes!!! It’s not to say he wasn’t dominant but Penny Reggie Lewis Drexler Magic gave him problems. And he rarely had to guard that guy because there’s so many undersized guards. And because of the expansion era many players were coming into the league that wouldn’t have been 10 years prior. So that 3rd best player on a college championship team is now starting in the NBA whereas I’m 1980 he wouldn’t have made it in the league at all.
@@IWannaUnaliveMyself yup, what’s crazy to me is if you ask the average basketball fan how good would Jerry West be if he played today they’ll say he’d be worse because the athletes weren’t as evolved in his era. In 1969 Jerry West was the first ever finals mvp and the best guard in the league, Jordan’s career began just 15 years later in 1984 and they act like huge jump in evolution happened and if Jordan played today he’d average 40 or 50 lol. If anything Jerry West era was way harder for a guard with no 3 point line , only 8-12 teams and even stricter rules on traveling. By the mid 90s to late sure Jordan lost a step but the young players coming in like Penny and Grant weren’t really that far off in talent. They’ll say 6 rings is the proof he’s the goat as if it’s not a team sport but Jordan lost 9 times in 15 seasons , his team had an under .500 record 5 times, and there are plenty of examples of him not playing great in big playoff games, he just attempted a lot of shots so the points look ok but he shot like 30% or worse. So when he wins he’s the goat but when he lost they go to every excuse possible and all of the sudden it being a team sport matters a lot lol you can look at many of the all time greats careers and see they would have more championships if they didn’t have years where simply their TEAM wasn’t championship quality . Sure it’s not all luck to win titles but the timing worked out perfectly for Jordan to win those titles and 96-98 Bulls were by far the best supporting cast any 90s player had to go along with the fact the league was watering down significantly. It’s pure brainwashing that people overlook these things because Jordan was “cool” had a flashy style and was marketed and advertised like he was a God.
Why is could’ve should’ve would’ve giving him the business? LMAOOO He’s driving the ball on MGay at will. And it’s obvious that MGay should be called for blocking
DEFENSE....And when Grant Hill beat him off the dribble, the recovery time allowed him to get back in striking distance on the DEFENSIVE end. *Meaning SWIPE, STEAL ATTEMPT or BLOCK ATTEMPT.
Iverson literally crossed Jordan from right to left 😂 He could go either way whenever he wanted on whoever he wanted and if you actually watched him you’d know that. Hill’s crossover was great but making completely inaccurate claims to support an argument is an L bruh
@mattollerjr.8878 You are totally wrong. Iverson could go only left to right. That's why Iverson only crossed him once cause every other time they played Jordan sat on his right side. Show videos of Iverson doing the crossover right to left. 😅😅
Better Crossover "Than" Jordan! Than represents Comparison. I like her better "Than" you! "Then" represents a period of unspecified time or a time frame! Back "Then" Grant's crossover was fire! or Grant had the better crossover "Than" Jordan back "Then" Ok let's review Than= Comparison, Then =Time frame. DON'T MAKE ME COME BACK HERE!
Differences are MJ could actually play lockdown defense cuz Hill wasn't a great outside shooter yet and didn't have the turnaround fadeaway.. he was bigger and quicker tho cuz he was younger.
@@NotAnAstronaut2k LOL! Did you see the tissue soft calls Teachers pet Jordan got? This was why Grant was so far off him on those dadeaways. The second Grant contested that second shot, soo the phantom "foul" on him?
@@44pranavcdipu67 nah he’s great for his time but his handles are average in todays game. Game evolved with better offensive skills today than it was in the primitive eras
@@nndayo6408unequivocally false, players today are not more skilled. They just shoot more and that's all. Most of the players today have NO SKILLS IN THE PERMITER or with their backs turned. The athletic ability is about the same. The training methods have improved today but it's not being maximised properly with fundamentals and athletic gifts. Define skills? it's more than just shooting. The game today is a redundant copycat and boring league. The ratings do not lie. Lowest ever since 1998. Research the game vs Hill in 98 at Chicago, funny they left that game out. Hill scored a total of 4 points on MJ, a complete shut down on D by Mj vs Hill. Hill was a beast back in the day cut short by injuries.
Hill was great player but was weak going left in the half court he one dribbled or two at most and usually picked up the ball not able to retreat he would pull up and shoot off 1 or 2 dribbles or gather and dunk, or do a lay up off a 1 - 2 up. if he was forced left and trapped he would get stuck He was most lethal in the open Floor with a head of steam his unbelievable athletic ability hid his weakness...
I love mj and 90s defense but they d be destroyed by todays players offensively if they tried to defend them. G Hill got a nice crossover for the 90s imagine guys wid steph and kyrie level handles here. It wouldnt be fair i dont think they knew back here how to guard shifty players they were so used to north to south players that players thats moved side to side could easily kill them
Imagine those guys getting bodied like they did in the 90s, having a hand on their waist coming around screens. I don’t think it would be fair to todays players to have to face that and not get away with traveling on side step jumpshots and step backs, although Harden was far worse with that then Steph who doesn’t have to travel regularly to score.
@@amostlyreasonableguythe physicality of the 90s might be the biggest exaggeration of something I’ve ever seen repeatedly used in conversations. Even in this clip you see Grant gets a foul called barely touching Jordan on a jumper. When you’re up too close being physical with a great ball handler that can cause you to be even more off balance and foul when they choose to shoot. That’s why you’re supposed to give a great ball handler or driver space. These 90s defenders would get cooked if they had to play by todays rules and todays players back then would be too crafty and fast with the ball.
For the kids watching this probably because they always hear the Jordan and LeBron Debate. Grant Hill was an all time great talent that injuries derailed what could have been (See Tracy McGrady) as well. Grant Hill was bigger and faster than Jordan with a crossover out of this world. Hill was that dude when he was healthy. He Posterized plenty of people, broke ankles and shook Jordan plenty of times. He just couldn’t stay Healthy. They were compared to each other before the injuries. Jordan probably had better on ball defense and midrange. Everything else Hill was better, faster, handles, he could jump out the gym just like Mike. They were pretty even for a stretch. Tracy McGrady another guy derailed by injuries…possibly could have been one of the best players EVER. He was unstoppable when healthy. When Healthy Tracy McGrady was THAT DUDE. His shoes was fire too. Side Bar (Tracy McGrady is related to Vince Carter and was childhood friends with Kobe Bryant)
@@kristijanEX I'm from Chicago. Grew up during Jordan Career. Jordan could not guard the step back, crossover, screen and pop 3 point shot or short, fast scoring point guards.
@@timothytaylor9835 he guarded Grant Hill and Mitch Richmond pretty well. AI too, one crossover doesn't mean he was always on skates, if you're a great defender you're gonna get dunked on or blown by because you commited to the cause.
@@kristijanEX Scottie pippen Guarded Grant Hill, Mitch Richmond and Grant Hill cooked the Bulls. Jordan got weak side and double team steals. Pippen Guarded the toughest players on the other team not Jordan.
@@timothytaylor9835 oh you're one of those people that spread myths like "Pippen guarded the opposing team's best player", oh boy. First of all, Pippen was getting cooked by Hill and MJ had to step up and defend Hill. Grant Hill himself will tell you that Jordan played great defense on him, they played 1s whilst Hill was filming Living Single. Jordan also guarded Magic, Drexler. Neither Jordan nor Pippen guarded Barkley, Malone or Payton primarily. So out of the best players on each Finals team Jordan and Pippen faced, Jordan guarded 2 out of the 5 and Pippen 0. Pippen is more versatile due to his size and length, but Jordan was the Bulls best defender. Remember that git.
Even 30+ year old Michael Jordan was giving it to pre-injury Grant Hill. Won the matchup every time. Arenas said Hill was the first tall guy with guard skills who can go left or right but doesn't mention Magic or Larry. There's not one highlight of him scoring against Dennis Rodman ever. He said players have better move today but if you watch the games back then, they had much better moves and footwork. Yeah he lied.
Let's keep things in perspective. There's a 10 year difference between these two guys. So what separates the two is a solid NBA career (10 years). Both guys are playing well considering their circumstances. The reverse would be 2008 Grant Hill against 1988 MJ.
love to see the back and forth. saw a game between lebron and kd recently and it was not even worth watching. they barely go hard against each other. no heart anymore.. friends back then hit each other with hard fouls. now they just smile and kiss each others ass🤦♂️
Pff you are all so delusional. For you hill looks more impresive because he bees to work really hard to score on mj, while mj score on him with ezz. Gtf are here man
@@zeekbey6425 dude pls. Athletic prime Grant Hill vs Jordan past far athletic prime, is it ok for you now? You have to realize grant is one of the best slasher in the history of nba with his quick first step. But match with the quickest version of MJ he would dominate grant hill offensively and defensively.
@@leodesilva7638 Athletic prime doesn’t matter. When I say prime, I mean in terms of production. Hill didn’t get there until like 2000 and that didn’t last because he got injured. This is a young, raw Grant Hill against scoring champ Jordan.
@@zeekbey6425 i got you dude trust me. But athletic prime matters to MJ defensively if he has to limit Grant hill's ability to slash through defense. You have to consider MJ best scoring period is also when he is the best defensive player. Then if you would match Grant hill's prime to MJ's prime and that was when MJ is on his Athletic prime. The more Grant hill wont be able to stop MJ, but the more MJ would be able to limit Grant hill's offense.
and than we talk how much mj would score today.lmao todays players would eat as mfkers, nobody is even guarding above free point line, centers from this era would look like chumps.where is defense.basic
Grandpa MJ won 3 straight titles, 3 straight scoring titles, 3 straight Finals MVPs and 2 MVPs from 95-98. But he was washed?? The league must have sucked then.
@@aaronjackson9385MJs second 3 peat wasn’t his prime athletically. He definitely got cooked with the cross over but he also scored at will. And again this is 33/34 year old MJ vs a young grant hill. Let’s try and keep it real for the sake of the debates.
@@davidlitwin7735 not being prime athletically, doesnt mean he washed, though.. Kobe wasnt prime athletically from 06-09, imagine saying he was washed. Same rules apply to Lebron from 2015-2018. Not prime athletically, but he was far from washed. MJ was still considered the best player in the world. Youre the one who needs to keep it real, not me.
Yeah like when Michael Jordan broke his foot,or when Kobe tore his Achilles winners staying healthy. Accidents and injuries happen it's a part of the game.
Clearly GH33 has higher basketball IQ than MJ, MJ did most of his scoring by fadeaways sure sign that he respects GHs defensive cap, GH crosses him over at will..
That’s the difference between watching random RU-vid clips and actual games. People form their opinions off of videos like this. When you watch actual games you’ll see the evolution of their matchups you’ll see what you saying is false. I’ve literally watch a game where Hill was giving Scottie buckets and they switch and put Jordan on him and Hill was on lock. Did not score another point. Healthy Hill. Not injury prone Hill.
Jordan was already in his mid 30s by the time hill came in and had perfected his fadeaway, which he used on every defender, not that just hill. There’s so much science and strategy he put on that fadeaway that I beg to differ, MJ had the higher basketball IQ. Hill got MJ a few times with the iverson-style crossover, but MJ eventually adjusted and shut him down.
Wow, the Jordan excuses just never end. Look, once players couldn't use the handcheck as much, from foul line to foul line, Jordan and Pippen got exposed that they couldn't stay in front of anyone except slow bad players
Getting crossed and getting exposed are two different things. You act like MJ and Scottie weren’t still winning championships while all this exposing was happening… lol. Also, none of these highlights are actually Jordans prime. This is 33/34 year old MJ. Let’s try and keep it real if you’re gonna debate on this…
