Royal Oak (Paddington) - 07:10 to 08:20
Hanwell - 08:50 to 09:40
Some First Great Western and Heathrow action seen during the morning rush hour at Royal Oak which is very near to Paddington station and then a visit to my favourite station - Hanwell (now ruined by the fence). Some DBS action at Hanwell included as well.
Highlights include colourful 332s, the Sleeper ECS from Paddington to Old Oak Common, 8-car 165 combination, 43163 in 'Visit Plymouth' livery, some freight and a FGW service calling at Hanwell!
It is the morning peak hour including trains from the usual destinations along with Bourne End, Henley-on-Thames, Banbury, Worcester via Cheltenham, Frome and Weston-super-Mare as well as 3 trains from Plymouth in the space of 45 minutes!

Mega compilation, the info you are giving about the service each train is on made me feel I was there! Good effort, mate, see if you could start using a tripod, if you can afford It, it would help you a lot. Cheers!

Panos G - On the Greek rails since 2008 Thanks mate, I do have a tripod but staff on major stations and London Underground stations such as Royal Oak do tend to see them as a hassle. I have been stopped when using a tripod so I only use them for smaller, less staffed stations but I was at Hanwell for only a short time, and it would have been a bad idea to use it because of the fence. Hope this explains it.

TurboFintan Yes, I totally understand you. Trainspotting at big cramped staying can be tricky. Thank you for the instant answer!

Great video. I hadn't realised such workings existed as Henley-London, London-Banbury and a Slough terminator.

MKT Transport Video Thanks mate, services do increase during peak times and you might get the odd one to unusual places not common outside of peak times.

Fascinating to see how it's changed. I last stood on the same spot at Royal Oak 45 years ago. Rainlagh Bridge depot stood opposite, in that triangle formed by the white building. It always had a collection of diesels, manily for refuelling. And the orange canopy in the distance looking towards Paddington was the parcels platform, generally with a motly mix of parcels vans being loaded. There was a huge goods shed (the NCL depot) sort of behind you stretching almost to Paddington Station. The Westerns, Hymeks and Warships - used to 'open up' just to your right - clouds of blue smoke - lovely! Pehaps I saw that 57 - it was a 47 in those days.

And now its to change once more, with HSTs soon to be leaving the Great Western.

What an insight to the old GWR Paddington fleet and the old timetable. You don’t see direct Henley services or triplets of 165/166 anymore.

Yeah its unbelievable what has changed so I'm glad I managed to get some record of it.

I really miss the old timetable. So many unusual workings and Non-Stop services on the slow lines was always cool to see. I get the mainline has been upgraded with 387s and 345s but I still feel that these peak time services would still be very handy. Bourne End, Marlow and Henley-On-Thames to Paddington direct would be very convenient and would save passangers a wait at Maidenhead or Twyford. And it would be nice to see more 165s around Paddington. Only 4 services a day are 165s. the 05:41 to Greenford, the 22:22 from Greenford, the 00:20 from Oxford and the 00:30 to Oxford (formed of the 00:20 and the Greenford train)

Why are the 180s so rare on FGW now.
@TurboFintan
@TurboFintan 5 лет назад
They've all gone from the GWR network, all 180s are operated by Grand Central and Hull Trains on the ECML.

whats the point having electrical lines when only the heath row express seems to use it.

Things are in the process of changing; much more of the traffic will be electric (or bi-mode trains in electric mode) in the future. You have to install electrification before you can switch to electric haulage.

i was desperate to visit hanwell, now im not interested thanks to that bloody fence
@TurboFintan
@TurboFintan 9 лет назад
***** The fence is annoying but at least it is not too high up. Hanwell was a lot better without the fences. Acton Main Line also has fences and it is in a similar layout to Hanwell so that as well was disappointing.
