FR3225 seen in this video pushing back from the ramp at Oslo Rygge for our flight down to Manchester that morning. This was an extremely rough winters day on both Norway and England's side, we were taxiid to the de-icing ramp and given a full coat of anti-ice fluid before we backtracked down runway 30, making a 180 degree turn to line up on runway 12. The pilot used a rather harsh input from his flight controls to keep the aircraft in line, and upon us catching air an extremely rough wind hit the side of the aircraft multiple times as we were departing in rough crosswind (highwind) conditions. It was then clouds from 1000ft all the way up to 30,000ft!

Turbulence videos- it may not look very rough just by looking at the wings, but when you're actually inside the plane, you can feel g-forces ranging from moderate and above even if the turbulence is just light.

iPetroSS I think the roughness of the take off was the bumpy in the air right after. Obviously not a seasoned flyer who put this video up.

Uhh..where is the "very rough" part?
@lesivs

The wing panels you see moving are roll spoilers and move in conjunction with the aerilons when larger roll control inputs are being made at lower airspeeds. This aids the action of the aerilons and is perfectly normal. Their movement does however back up the suggestion that the takeoff was a bit rough - certainly seems gusty and perhaps not a pleasant experience for those with motion sickness or the nervous flyer, however still no problem really! Pilots often see a lot worse than this!

Fuel pumps are on before the engine starts. I don't know my 737 sounds very well, but it could very well be the electric hydraulic pumps. The main hydraulic power comes from mechanical pumps driven by the HP shaft of the engines, but the electric pumps serve as an extra source, which additionally can be powered by the APU if both engines fail (although the 737 also has very very limited control possible with cables connected to the yoke, so a total hydraulic failure still allows some control).

if people want really rough take off they should probably see the 767 take off named "Crazy dangerous take off 767" in YT. It's done in heavy rainfall and crosswind controls. After watching that, this take off is smooth.

spoilers are used to dump lift on the ground, increase drag in the air or assist in more responsive control of the aircraft for turns etc.
@ronaldcgriffin
@ronaldcgriffin 11 лет назад
The before Taxi Checklist is usually done after push and engine start, however this also depends on the airline. For example here we needed de-ice, which means they won't put the flaps down until after de-ice, as they're needed up for the procedure.

@ramboormark
@ramboormark 11 лет назад
they are used to give increased response time of control input on the yolk. they arent pulling the speed brake lever at t/o lol. they are used on the ground because the pilot has the yolk displaced to accomodate crosswind which could push the plane on to the nose and left main gear. as you rotate (assuming uniform wind) you bring out the control deflection as the plane naturally adopts required hdg to maintain centre line.

Gusting from 16 to 27 means 11 knots of variance in full gust. Easily handled by a minor deflection of the roll controls of the 737 (which includes several surfaces including the multiple ailerons and spoilers).
@rosagronchi

correctly firm liftoff due to turbulence or guts. No unusual issues in this takeoff. You was in safe hands.
@pachodomi
@pachodomi 11 лет назад
spoilers are used also as ailerons. when you have such a big aircraft you don't only need to create lift on one wind to turn, but also reduce lift on the other one to bring it down. its all aerodynamics

The smoke on push back is just the ice that has formed on the engine and in the engine been burned while it was on stand. You see this at many icey airports and it mainly happens with the 737-800 and 737-300

I once flew with the now-defunct Skyservice Airlines (A320) from YYZ-FLL in March 2005 and while not particularly rough, the approach into Ft. Lauderdale was enclosed within a thick cloud layer ranging from about 31,000 feet until 2,000 feet and there was some moderate chop all the way down. Weather in FLL was obviously much warmer than it would've been in OSL at the time (light rain, 14 deg. Celsius, high humidity).

You, and probably many others, define rough takeoff as a plane nearly slamming into the ground. I'm sorry people, but that's not what a rough takeoff is, and I suggest if you do have that expectation, to lower it immediately. The meteorological conditions can be read at the start of the video. 160/16 knots, gusting to 27 knots. The video also clearly shows huge turbulence and furthermore the pilot uses full alieron delfection on the T/O roll. That people, makes it rough.

Devices that transmit signals are problematic. A camera or cell phone in airplane mode will not transmit anything which means they cannot interfere with any communication/navigation equipment.
@sophiek7511
@sophiek7511 7 лет назад
nigahiga6400 they don't interfere with any of the navigation equipment they ask you to turn them of so that they pay more attention during the safety demo and that incase of a emergency people don't get distracted while evaluating plus why do pilots use I pads or other devices in the Cockpit while taking off?

interesting video. But windsock on ground shows winds blowing directly down runway... not crosswind... but obviously plane gets hit with a couple gusts shortly after lift off. As to all the talk of spoilers/ailerons, on some planes, the ailerons are used to "turn" the plane if the yoke it turned fairly slightly. If the turn is beyond a certain point, the flaps also employed as spoilers raise to assist turning. Turn a little, ailerons only... turn further and spoiler flaps engage as well.

I had one very rough one on a British Airways flight out of Nairobi to London one night. Almost from the take off, we seemed to be getting thrown around. I also brought to the flight attendant's attention that we had a whistling door. She phoned the captain, but he said that it wasn't anything to worry about. Later the captain apologised and said that he was told by ground control that we were taking off against the wind but it turned out that we were taking off with the wind behind us. ?????

Thats the engines on startup.. This is a normal startup on a very cold day! Reason for the smoke/raw fuel spray is a cold soaked engine and cold soaked jet fuel combined,that makes it extremely difficult the egnite the entire fuel charge at once.,so thats why its so smokey startup. but it is not actually smoke we see,(in-efficient combustion)but raw fuel coming out the tailpipe.

I think as well that this is a normal takeoff. But when I used to fly with Ryanair I very often experienced very bad performed touchdowns. Once the pilot just let the whole plane fell from about 1 or 2 metres down unto the runway. I really can't remember a touchdown flying with Ryanair that was soft and smooth ... I am sorry to say.

I didn't think 11 knot gusts were very big for a 737. There was barely any control deflection during the takeoff role (and during the roll even full deflection does not indicate much turbulence because at low speed the controls need greater deflection for effect). At what point in the video is "full deflection"? Are you sure you're watching the same video as me?

Nice vid. The weather data that you quote is well within limits of a 737. A 40° crosswind is rougly a 60% crosswind component, compared with full crosswind of 60° to 90°. According to the windsock around 7:23 you can see that the wind is gusty during the take off run by how the windsock´s attitude varies from horizontal to hanging but at the same time there is not that much crosswind as the windsock is more or less aligned with the runway,

FR don't want you to film any of the procedures onboard the aircraft, as well for safety purposes it's not alowed to do so, and crew tells you to switch off your camera, are just doing their job, however, the rule is stupid because its 100% safe to use your camera on board the a/c during takeoff/landing. We usually do all the safety checks after the demo, and as soon as they are compleated, we report to the flightdeck and go in the jumpseat, from that moment, noone will notice you filming ;)
