I’m taking this as a sign. I’ve been wanting to build a “modern edition” tricopter. I’m so glad this video came out. Because I was going to try the tilt servo motor for the back. But now I’ll just mirror the two like you did. :) it’s going to be a bit before I get to work on this project

2:30 I bet the reason why its feeling more powerful is due to its reduced drag. Less separate prop discs allow for quicker acceleration through the air!

Since yaw is still determined by motor differential I imagine it would be pretty much a normal quad with the advantage of being a lighter frame due to one less arm and probably less roll authority, since the roll force is just one motor. quads usually have way more authority than they need unless you have crazy rates, so I don't imagine that would be an issue.

So are there advantages for using a tricopter? Where would you use a tricopter over a quadcopter?

You wouldn't. It's purely a novelty. Quads are superior to tri copters in every category.

Back in the day tricopters had a way smoother yaw than quads, but tuning and chip advancements have made them obsolete. Now days they are just like @flightevolution said, novelties.

Now just out of interest anyone used a set of counter rotating blades on a tricopter, I saw on Banggood that they sell an assembly that seems like it has two motors at the bottom that go up to two different counter rotating blades, I know they probably aren’t that high quality but just thinking this could work here.

Sorta? You would have to use a servo though which I don’t think would work on such a small quad. I don’t think any micro fcs have servo support anyways

@@kevinbills113 if it's the weight you're after, i think it's worth it. Many people report no issues, BetaFPV even had a BNF quad with a naked vista in it. As long as you don't leave it powered up without flying it should be fine, definitely worth looking into
