Because the HDMI is more about support your old screen, and connect your PC to the TV (because it's obviously more HDMI dependent on TV) You can't really have dual/triple/infinity screen on HDMI because the port is a multi-port itself and it's not designed to support the multi screen charge (5 screen in 4k weeell nop) You can always try to find a model in the manufacturer with only HDMI or Display port, it's only cable and card printing, should not affect so much performance (HDMI maybe a bit)

@@gbreuil1 Here in Brazil, is kinda rare to see a monitor with DP, only the best ones that need 144hz connection. The manufactures use DVI to support old monitors, but ones like samsung even has monitors 1080p that support HDMI + VGA (yes, VGA lol).

3:17 The main thing, I think, is that you want to make sure the connection can only be in one of two states--either fully connected, or fully disconnected. You don’t want some pins making contact and others not--this can cause glitches, unless the signalling protocol is designed to cope with it. So if the plug gets accidentally pulled, you want to ensure the connection is broken cleanly, not partially. I suppose a magnetic attachment would be one way of ensuring this.

Good info.. It does reinforce some of the other information I have gathered on this. I work in IT for the county I live in. Users have asked what the difference between HDMI and DP is... What I have discovered is that essentially HDMI is for consumer level use and DP is for Business/Enterprise level use, especially when you get into using multiple monitors. Thanks for the info.
@jldmvlog1616
@jldmvlog1616 3 года назад
DP is the best in all sence because the interface is primarily used to connect a video source to a display device such as a computer monitor, and it can also carry audio, USB, and other forms of data. You can connect several monitors to the same line without adapters and with adapters it is the favorite for hub. And even that it is the faster.
@hakkgurl
@hakkgurl 3 года назад
@@jldmvlog1616 how do you connect to several monitors without an adapter?
@jldmvlog1616
@jldmvlog1616 3 года назад
@@hakkgurl That question it's so specific, so in first terms, if you only have one port, for example, a VGA it is easy to build a splitter to connect more than one to the same port but that is only useful if you want to duplicate the screen. In contrast, if you want to extend the monitor to more than one the splitter is not usefull due to the fact that your PC only recognize one aditional screen, the easy way to do that is using the DisplayPort because this port was built to handle several signals at one time, at the end you only need to connect with the DisplayPort Cable to the computer and one monitor to the other monitor and so on, and that's enough to your OS handle each screen as multiple screen. And last but not least it's using your amount of physical video ports, for example in some Laptops is common to find VGA and HDMI ports along in it, so you can connect to monitors related to each port. On the other hand, if you are using a PC and your onboard video or your video card provides more than one physical video port you can do the same as in laptop connect one monitor in each port, most of the times you can enjoy of VGA, HDMI and DVI or S-Video. In my experience, for multiple monitors and handling them individually in extend mode you must use DisplayPort. The matter is, you can send and receive multiple indivual signals in the same cable if you are using DP port, that's why is worthly.

actually good to know since i saw both of these on my computer graphics card, but i didnt know the distinction despite having the idea that they do roughly the same thing. At the very least i know now that i can use a projector or larger tv in the display port if i wanted to hook it up to my computer or just use it as is since there will be no immediate disadvantage for use one over the other for 1080p or 1440p gaming.

There are two things you missed: Displayport features something called Multi-Stream Transport, or MST. Using MST, you can daisy chain multiple monitors, or use a hub, letting you connect multiple displays to a single port. Displayport also features direct electrical compatibility with HDMI, DVI, and VGA. HDMI is only electrically compatible with DVI.

@@eddycervantea7882 1440p 120 Hz is possible even over HDMI 2.0 but it will depend on the monitor if it allows that. On many HDMI is gimped to only support 60 Hz no matter what. So read the manual and see if has a table on supported res/refresh rates over HDMI. Over HDMI 2.0 PS5 also won't be able to make use of things like variable refresh rate etc. Well you could but again expect desktop displays to be shit in this regard.

there is also one thing that can make you buy DP instead of HDMI - the Freesync monitor. You can daisy chain DP and HDMI you have to run a separate cable for each monitor, also you can use USB integrated hub on a monitor with out the use of a separate USB cable since DP has built in USB channels. In conclusion DP is not only better resolution wise but also allows less cable runs and thus a tidier set up.
@TheSoulCrisis
@TheSoulCrisis 2 года назад
Hmmmm so I'm getting a USB-C to DisplayPort cable to run from my MSI laptop to MSI monitor (I need it to take advantage of higher refresh rates and NVidia G-SYNC). When you say daisy chain DP/HDMI, can I connect my first monitor to my laptop via the USB-C to DP connection, then my second monitor to my first monitor via HDMI and still take advantage of the refresh rates and G-SYNC for gaming? I'm just trying to wrap my head around the process, it's wonderful connecting small laptop displays to nice monitors that truly boosts productivity. Is the main display setting DP if you daisy chain using HDMI also? Or will you have the option to pick either on the monitor's settings?
@quazy1328
@quazy1328 2 года назад
@@TheSoulCrisis As far as I know you can't daisy chain HDMI. DP has dedicated wires for USB data, but I am not sure if the new standard is up to USB3 specifications. Also using USB-C is essentially using DP or HDMI depending on how the video hardware since USB-C can carry either signal. If you can daisy chain your USB-C video the it is most likely carrying a DP type signal that allows for multiple monitors on a single cable run. HDMI is designed for T.V. and home theater so it is not designed for use with multiple monitors displaying different signals simultaneously with out the use of some sort of DP/USB-C hub that can spit the signal to multiple HDMI displays.

Nice video. But I think that the majority of consumers out there do not have the latest port version of either DisplayPort or HDMI. So, I think that comparing some older versions of both ports is important. For instance, DisplayPort 1.2 is more advanced than HDMI 2.0 because it allows image bit depth at 10-bit, while HDMI 2.0 only displays image in 8-bit (that’s important for all of those who own a 4K display). Also DisplayPort allows multi-monitor setups through daisy-chain configurations. Also, Nvidia offers G-Sync technology for FreeSync monitors only through DisplayPort! So, DisplayPort should be viewed as the clear winner in this comparison!
