A good friend of mine built a dodge Dakota for drag racing from front to back. He's got over 250 grand in it he told me. The truck might bring 50 if he's lucky. Labor of love.
@@vanbalzup6481 i don’t think he’s talking about selling it. also, the sentimental aspect he spoke about makes it pretty clear that he had no interest or desire to ever get rid of it. the interview asked “how much did this car cost to build, he never asked “how much are you selling it for”.
If that's $650K then my wife's stock Nissan Rogue is $150K EDIT: To all the people in the comments telling me I have no idea what I'm talking about and that this car costs $650K to build... this clip is taken out of context and the guy actually said that he would SELL this car to clients @ $650K to make a profit. So, no, this car did not cost $650K to BUILD.
@@Bojonni No dipshit. He's adding in his "time" as a monetary component when asked how much the car cost to build. That was my point. The parts alone cost no where near that much and HE KNOWS that the time invested doesn't cost that much - hence why he said "if I wasn't so sentimentally attached to it". You'd think I wouldn't have to explain this shit but here we are I guess.
The company you work for must love you since you don't think they should pay you for designing, planning, and problem solving. Though I'm sure those aren't things you'd ever have to do where you work
@@basberendso anything I do after work doesn’t add any value to anything/my life? If I renovate my kitchen, it adds value to the house. Regardless of if or when I sell the house. He built a car, the time he spent adds value, otherwise he’d be selling a pile of parts new in boxes.
@@PandiTheBear your reading/taking my reaction completly wrong. thats is not what i mean at any means. your own time/free time = you can not count those hours worth the same amount as the hours that are being asked by a shop. (that the shop asks $250 an hour does not mean your after work/ free time is also worth $250. in the calculation of how much something costs!!!)
Ive spent 3 years collecting parts, trying to figure out my swap and parts needed, how its going to go together in the end and havnt even touched the chassis yet.
@@CashOut3 even if that’s true, no one is buying that for that price. What car is that even? I literally don’t know what make or model it is because of the money he’s put into it lol
I think i seen this build before and naturally aspirated it was pushing close to or right over 1k hp. And the work done is insane. I could see him having that in it.
Do you know how much it would cost if you paid someone who designs cars for any brand by the hour? I mean 120 sounds like a lot but he did it all by himself, while car companies have million if not billion dollar budgets for this type of thing.
@@sebastiangarcia-yb5rodo you live under a rock , mechanics cost 80-100 and hour for a decent one ( not trailer trash ) and o broo of that the work to custom build a car is crazy 120 is light work for fabrication
Everyone does this. They hyper inflate the value of their own build because they think their time and labor should be paid for by the buyer. However that never happens. Doesn’t matter if you spend 10 years or 10 mins, no one wants to pay for that. That car would sell for maybeeee 80k realistically. You could buy a 2016 or even newer AMG GT race car from Mercedes that you can race at a track. A full blown, track killing machine for 500k. And those are the same cars professionally raced in the GT series and go much faster than this thing. It doesn’t matter if he has paid for 15 different engines over the years. You are paying for the one that is in the car now, now all the ones sitting in the shop broken.
I agree, that amount of dedication and skills does not come cheap. Anytime you make a one-off you are basically on your own and have to figure it out for yourself. Definitely not the sum of its parts.
Yeah, at first, but when you beat on shit that’s pushed to the limit, it breaks, the custom parts aren’t cheap. Rough road driving doesn’t even compare to the stress of a racetrack.
The engine alone is worth $50K. EASY. Exhaust is maybe another $10K, suspension is worth $25K in parts alone, ECU and wiring is another $10K, PLUS labor...and I haven't even talked about carbon fiber or titanium parts.
@@calebverdu3091 These morons are too offended by things they can't afford to even get what was said in the clip right. Ignoring the fact they can't comprehend the cost of building something by hand
And the really cool thing about his build is it has been immortalized and turned into a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels cuz he won their Legends Tour a year or two back.....
I think this dude is awesome. He doesn’t have a douche bag accent, he isnt spitting that bullshit car guy talk, he’s just in Love with His Hobby. That is Cool to Me. I’d Love to meet him and take a ride in that Beast.
when you come from money, anything you desire is possible. you can pursure your passion endlessly until your support system gives up on you and hands you 20k to start your life on your own.
@@JEMA333 right bro this guy this me he came from nothing but he just got handed 20k I has to hustle one the streets starting with nothing and I turned a front into 50k and I’ve been doin my thing sense then
My dad is the same way with his motorcycles. He would always find ways to make something work, and he used his hard earned money to do it. The only thing holding him back from building his dream motorcycles is money. Even his $30 an hour job isn't enough because of family. I'm not saying he doesn't care about his family. He always dies his priorities first, but as hard as he works, he deserves to have his dream motorcycles. He is currently rebuilding a really old motorcycle from I think the 70s, and sometimes he has to build his own parts in his garage. He can literally build anything from the ground up because he is just good at that, but the only problem is money. I told him you could make way more with the knowledge he has, but he says he doesn't want to turn his hobbies into a job.
Reminds me when looking at a drag car once. Beautiful camaro old school slammed fully custom drag.. Some random guy said "this cost close to a million". insane
specific custom makes it have less market appeal, thus lowers the price. I am sure he could sell it for 270k but not 650k. It could also be so specifically built no one would want it for 90k. It just depends on what the market is willing to pay.
Noah, want to see what an person w/ deep knowledge looks like when being honest? This is it. Not trying to sell you, not trying to persuade...This is what it looks like. It takes a lot of experience to see honesty. It doesn't usually come in long sentences. It is usually just flashes, a couple of words, a facial expression.
