This reminds me of what Singsing did in one of his dota games, where he mind controlled a bunch of golems with Chen, and then pretended to be neutral creeps. When the poor earthshaker came to the jungle, Singsing screamed " Wrong neighbourhood!" and stunned the earthshaker to death XD
IMO upkeep is pretty essential to the feel of the game. Without it, the best strategy would nearly always be to get to 100 food ASAP and the game would feel less distinct from Starcraft. But I do think a tax cut to 80%/50% might be an interesting experiment.
Never would have thought that grubby does not like the upkeep mechanics. I really like it, gives variation in strats. Can hold without going over? Should i go over now? Just like you said, without it, it's just about who can reach critical mass the fastest. Similar to interest mechanics in auto battlers like tft
WC3 allows for some of the most creative tactics. I remember back when the game came out people were upset with the creeps on the map and I remember thinking "the existence of creeps could open up a world of strats outside of their intended use."
@@saimyintmyat9373 Kind of crazy right?? Blizzard created one of the most popular gaming genres in history and they A: didn't do it on purpose and B: couldn't monetize it fully until it was too late.
@@muzman486 Warcraft 3 Frozen throne expansion is/was one of the most MoD-able In RTS genre. It is like Playing another whole game in that game for free.
I remember back in middle school or high school, we were learning about how thr economy works and none of the kids knew what it was. Due to Warcraft 3s upkeep system I was able to write about it and then talk about it in front of the class, I was the only one who was able to explain a basic economy and how it works, granted in this simplistic form based on a video game. 😅 And yes, I did mention my knowledge came from this wonderful game.
It would be so funny, to send the creeps away, when he tries to creep, and then sending a backup group of the same creeps back to the same spot haha. So he has to creep it over and over again.
of if Grubby knew he was going that way -- and had some more time -- grab some of the gnolls to come join in on that top right creep. make it look like he aggro'ed two other camps.
@@robinreher7318 we could spend quite some time going over many hilarious scenarios. :D i haven't laughed that hard in a while. Grubby's been trying to do this challenge for at least a month but it's hard to do cause it has to be on a big enough map and you need time to get master banshees and then you have to predict the opponent going a certain way and possess the creeps beforehand. all in all, very funny.
@@Fernandez218 true. Just following him on yt, never watched him at stream.. sodidnt no, how long he's trying to do that. But rn I am thinking about taking over the complete enemy ground army with banshes. Should be funny aswell ;D anither idea.. keeping the enemy hero in a cage made out of units. And healing them all the time, so he can't get out of it. Or a base surround so he can't leave. But not killing him
@@robinreher7318 omg, bro, Happy. Happy had a game on plunder isle, probably like 4-5 years ago when he used to take requests. most hilarious thing i've seen. he went DL first, vs orc. blademaster comes to harass. he sleeps the blademaster, blade has no TP. he summons four ziggarauts around him -- keeps sleeping him until ziggs done. then i think he set ups a nerub and has acolytes repairing zigg. blade in jail forever 😂😂 Happy is cracking up doing. He's had the most epic requests he's executed on his stream, back when his stream was fun and he didn't ban people left and right for askking who opponent was. good times.
12:38 lol man that was good. i haven't laughed that hard in a few months. lol i thought it would be funny when he was approaching the creep to already move them out towards the human expo and start attacking it or something 😂😂
I think Upkeep is a good idea -- I just wish that it had finer granularity. Instead of going from 0% to 30% when you get just over 50 Food and from 30% to 60% when you get just over 80 Food, start adding 1% of tax for every Food over 50. Or if you can't get the 0.1 Gold resolution, then add 10% for every 10 Food over 41 Food (which would be an intermediate granularity version of the same thing -- 10% at 51 through 60, 20% at 61 through 70, and so on).
I think the upkeep system is great because it encourages people to engage, rather than keep 100 food armies in their base, stack resources and wait for mine collapse
I really try to veer away from gatekeep-y opinions but I really like upkeep. I understand arguments that it's not beginner friendly but I think in the current landscape of PC games there isn't really room for RTS thats both "easy to approach" while still having that competitive depth / high skill ceiling. That's really just because the standard for approachability has escalated so far that even wc3 upkeep gets deemed too difficult to deal with. Let me be clear, that's a good thing for gaming that it's easier than ever for people to get into but the logical endpoint for "approachable RTS" is what led to mobas. So while in 2003 wc3 could live at the approachable end of the spectrum, nowadays if someone asked me how to get into RTS I would probably recommend DotA 2 or HotS as a prerequisite since those are just easier genres overall and the inputs/higher concepts readily translate into proper RTS later on. By that logic I think upkeep is actually still to wc3's credit because it limits total army size which makes both macro and micro easier to do. Just increase the control group limits and do some sensible changes to hotkeys and I think the game can still cut it against the latest/greatest. Basically what Reforged should have done all along if I may still beat that dead horse
Just have Ai come up with the games. Guaranteed 1,000% something better is created from Ai than whichever mere mortal tried to enhance WC3 with Reforged.
Why are most WC3 players seemingly bound to 1 race? I'm surprised that everyone just doesn't play Undead and use their OP heroes to win. Why use races that are weaker? There's no way Grubby and others players can't play UD at a high level. It's almost like some weird unwritten rule that you don't paly other races if you're known to play a certain one. I understand he's playing UD here, but I'm talking specifically about try hard games.
Undead is pretty OP/broken. I leave every game as soon as I saw UD or just go afk 😂 Of course not talking about matches between Pros (they will find a way sometimes, there's a reason why UD guy is the champion.. it's not like other pro's are retarded after 20y of playing so nobody can beat him). But from standpoint of average player playing average player those imbalances really matter. Specially vs NE. UD can have like 15 units at the time NE has 1 archer 😂 or just camp and build unbeatable army (bears are useless, flying units are useless, weak heroes die in a second from coil nova...).
half an hour would be ok for youtubevideoa but not against so much worse players.... first video i watched but its allready to boring, i also dont watch twicht i only use youtube for spezialized "content"
I actually like upkeep. It gives various markers and stages by which there are advantages to stay smaller for longer instead of the WC2 approach where the ONLY strategy is more and more units. Upkeep gives reasons to stay at below 50 for a while, as an example, something you've always struggled with going over yourself until recently when you've been giving it more of a chance, but stay below that 50 so you can pursue like a 1 base aggressive strategy where the other person is spending time developing a second.
