I am a fan of yours for a long time now. I am 83 years old and would have given anything to do what you’re doing when I was young. And they’ll have MDS which is a blood cancer in and curable but I can still watch you guys on your trips and your hikes and your wonderful nature Love of nature. You guys are fabulous. Always love your nature now and forever. Everybody calls me mama Dootsie, I would be delighted if you guys would call me that as well.
Hearing Barron describe why it was a less than ideal first “shat himself” experience, in his monotone deep voice was everything! Also, who can’t relate to that being a shitty experience?! So glad you are both safe now!
That lake with the rainbow was the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen, I imagine it must have been 1000x more spectacular in person. I love the honesty of your videos. I love how you both always show the bad with the good, the mistakes vs. what you get right. You're both so lovely and relatable. Barron, I'm glad you're feeling better!
"I am going to have to knock off a star from the Thai Curry" made me laugh so hard! Glad you are o.k. You guys always make my day with your adventures!
"Ah good Sir I do believe I have shat in my pantaloons." - Barron Link, Summer 2021 lol, jk. I'm so glad you are feeling better Barron! Much love to you both (from Ontario, Canada) for making these videos
"not ideal circumstances to have shat myself" 🤣😂 so glad you made it out of there with Elsa's support!! 🙌🏼💪🏼 Loved watching you guys on adventure like this ☺️
I would love to see a video with Elsa's camp/hike meals! I'm so impressed by how much thought and flavor are put into it and they look really affordable too!
Barron, thank you for sharing your story of becoming ill. That’s not an easy thing for everyone to share, but the reality is illness can happen while hiking and camping! The backpacking videos are always my favorites.
I definitely agree with the assessment that Barron getting sick was berry related, or possibly bacteria in water. I eat those pre packaged foods ALL the time and never had a problem. However the berry and water on hikes can effect everyone differently. It’s possible he just ate the wrong berry… or one that was not washed properly!
man that's rough Barron. That happened to me once but I was in my own house- I can't imagine having to be in the cold wilderness and HIKE OUT.... I love that you found the higher perspective of it all- and found strength in it. lots of love from michigan.
I had that after eating Ali Baba's pizza in Victoria, BC, Canada. Had to lie on the floor right by my bathroom for 3, maybe 4 days. Took me 15 yrs to eat pizza again.
Your transparency is awesome. Some people may take it as something disgusting, but keeping it real for those of us who have yet to experience hiking like this makes the decision to be better equipped and maybe not eat processed camp food, a lot easier! Plus take a cue from Elsa, and her wholesome meals. LOL. No, really I’m glad you’re feeling better, that you were able to walk out of their on your own steam and of course that y’all and Kamp had an awesome adventure. Your views were extraordinary and breath taking! Thanks for sharing.
It’s ok dude, you haven’t truly lived until you shit yourself as an adult in a very horrible place. I shat myself on the way to a job interview. I had a few drinks the night before…nothing major…and I did the old thought it was a toot but ended up being a 💩 poop. This is yet another great story to add to your life’s journey my good man. Love your candor.
It's the worst feeling when you realize you need help but you have to get yourself off trail first! I had to hike out of the Colorado Trail sick last year. As bad as it is, the relief when you get to the road is pretty great!
I can't imagine having to hike with a bad UTI, I hope it was only the annoying + inconvenient kind? Otherwise you are my hero, because I am a sook if I get a mean UTI. (I have weak kidneys from my Dad, & I don't think I've ever had one which didn't come with fever & whatnot.)
@@mysterylovescompany2657 I hiked 10 miles to the road and was able to have some amazing friends come get me! Slowest most painful 10 miles of my life. I took my hip belt off which helped but yea...
At least you made it through most of the trip having a blast. Next time, eat Elsa's food. 😂 Sorry you were miserable. It was definitely food poisoning. I have had it before with the same results. Can't wait to see the next excersion.
@@lloyddorsey3744 I suspect food poisoning. Giardia doesn't happen that fast. I think a lot of what gets tagged as Giardia is too radical a change in diet combined with incomplete washing of dishware and eating utensils.
The fact that Baron was farting (raspberry farts) when you first started your hike to the base camp makes me think that he already had started with the infection before your trip. The infection may have bloomed by the 3rd day due to exhaustion and cold.
I've done a 15 mile hike in one day🚶♀️😅 I was overweight and thought I was going to die 🤣 I can't wait to do it again now that my health is under control!! You're inspiring me to get off my ass!!
So glad Baron survived that. Perhaps it was from the spices in that food he was eating that caused his bowels to have issues. It was a beautiful area you were camping in, and what a gorgeous lake and 🌈. And kudos to Elsa for hauling more than her fair share. Talk about stamina and endurance for you both. It takes a strong and determined mind when the body is sick and hindered, Baron 12 miles in that condition, EPIC. You two are the sweetest power couple. EDIT: If ever in that situation again, may I suggest you please take an herb called Slippery Elm along with organic aloe vera juice.
Barons last words"I still had a blast this trip" You sure did!!!! The days of backpack consuming anything not packaged or boiled are long gone!! One creepy on one hand picking those berries can destroy your tummy for 24 hours. Glad you are Ok! I slow boil Colorado berries into a juice and let cool and enjoy safe jam.
Barron's general great health surely helped him get through that ordeal. I loved the shots in the tent with Kamp's snout coming from the left, aiming at Elsa's food. The three of you there.
First of all, I'm so happy Barron's okay. I've been praying that we got good news. This was an amazing video. You young ones are brave and very ambitious. It is so entertaining for us all, I'm sure they agree. keep them coming and oh yeah, Barron you take care of other things and leave the meals to Elsa. lol She's gonna eat well no matter what, I'd feel better if you joined her. "Momma hen kicking in, lol" Thanks so much for sharing
Omg Kamp is so cute, very interesting seeing a dog bread to be high maintenance and super domesticated out in the wild, living like his ancestors did haha
This was awesome. I grew up in the Colorado Rockies. Thanks for taking us along. Sorry about your stomach issues, Barron. Love the doggo fun! Good job Elsa!
So glad your trouble was short-lived. I cannot eat any backpacking "meals in a bag" without something similar happening. So I took LOTS of notes of Elsa's meals, I think they will do just fine. Thanks for another excellent video!!
I wish they didn't put hot/boiling water in the plastic package... It will cause microplastics to get into your food. Why not put it all in a pot like Elsa? Apart from that there must be something in the packaged food that does not sit well for sure!
Was concerned that you Baron, weren't able to at least hydrate initially when hiking out🤒. As for the princess, so nice that there were comforts rendered to him whenever he wanted, and made sure no lumps or bumps for him to lay on (AKA The Princess and the Pea!!🥰🥰). Beautiful trip--all happy and healthy❤❤
This was more gripping, entertaining and engaging than any Marvel movie I've ever seen, and hundreds of people work on those. Good job, thanks for letting us see the upsides and downsides of adventures like this. Glad you made it out safely 🙏
I swear I didnt mean to laugh but when Barron was talking about gettin out of bed in middle of the night for a , should I say diaper change, I laughed till tears came out of my eyes. Im so sorry you were sick and that I laughed
Poor barron!! What an absolute trooper! Your excitement at the rainbow was so sweet! Loved this video guys! Especially the part where you were talking about how little you need to live when you have tent and food growing around you! Xx
You two make me so happy , love your adventures, so sorry Barron for the food poisoning or whatever it was , Elsa is a great woman supporting you ! You remind me of my son and daughter in law , so many similarities, cant wait for more content!
So sorry Barron was so sick at the end of your adventure. This video was such a delight, beautiful scenery and living your best lives. Way to camp Kamp!!! Stay well, you guys Rock!!
Oh man!!! I'm so sorry that you got sick Barron! Thank goodness you weren't alone out there! It was really comforting to hear you two recounting the events from the "other side." It looked like a great trip minus the illness of course.
I remember my first year of summer 4-H overnight week long camp when I was 10 years old. The second day I was there, I came down with some sort of dysentery crap and I threw up and had this shits for 24 hours straight. The crazy thing was so did a bunch of other little campers. I remember wanting to go home so bad but for some reason I was unable to. I just remember being so thirsty and drinking water and then throwing that up. It was pure misery. Glad you are feeling better. I think it takes days like that in life to make you appreciate so much more of the good LOL
Great video! I adore Kamp and am so glad to see so much of him in this one. Colorado is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing with us. Barron, thank you for sharing your experience.
Kamp is my new favourite influencer on any platform. (Also, great vid; engaging, beautifully shot, super well-edited to preserve a compelling pace, & you two + your friends are gorgeous & seem just delightful. New Sub, right here.)
Wow, the rainbow covering lake from end to end was beyond spectacular! I'm sure in person it was so much more magical. Thanks for sharing! Glad you all got out safely and all is well!💛🕊
This one was just so super entertaining! So many beautiful moments, Kamp cuteness, and fun friend times. Makes me want to camp. But every time Barron ate, I was like, "Oh no, oh no, oh no." Glad you were able to enjoy most of the trip before that happened and that you made it back safely!
You guys ever tried dehydrated soy flakes as a good meat substitute? It’s easy to carry and store. No flavour of its own so it’s really versatile. Nice chewy tuna/mince meat kind of texture depending on what you do with it. You just add boiled water. Lots of protein.
My heart goes out for you :'( I've watched only two of your videos so far and each one has ended with something going wrong. It is amazing to still see you trying and getting out there despite the bad experiences, keep up the awesome work! The places you go look incredible
Funny, we always say our cat is more like a dog-totally recognizes his name & comes running when we call him, well especially when my husband does, probably bc he’s in love w/him for consistently grooming him
My cat loooooves to be groomed while eating, he calls both me and my mom to groom him while he eats. Started desensitizing him when he was little and now he is literally obsessed almost 11 years later ☺️💕
Go race the donkeys in Colorado. It looked like they were having so much fun Kara and Nate looked great. You guys would be Whizzing up and down the mountain in this race. Do you know Kara And Nate
That whole bit where you described Kamp and his breed nature versus how he's fit into your little family, just melted my heart. He seems like the best little boy cat/dog a nomad (But now property owning) family could ever wish for. 😊🥰
I got sick just like that in Iraq back in 2005,the place we were at there was no real dr or army medic, just a civilian contractor with limited resources,I remember that another guy in our platoon got sick the same way just a week prior and nothing like it happened to our team after me,thankfully it went away after about 3 days, pretty rough times that year, little did we knew, sickness would be the least of our troubles.
I was with the American Red Cross in 1990 in Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Shield. I got sick eating a chicken ala King MRE and was so sick that I honestly thought I was going to die. It was horrendous. I started to feel better in two to three days. Later on, I read in The Stars and Stripes that there was a problem with MREs with chicken and a suggestion not to eat them. No, duh. Needless to say, I've never eaten chicken ala king of any kind ever since. It's one thing to get that kind of illness at home with your own flushing toilet, it's another out in the middle of nowhere. Baron is truly a badass.
I now live vicariously through you guys. I love remembering my time in Colorado through your channel, I was and am so inspired by you two and this journey.
Amazing video, amazing scenery, amazing people, amazing experience. I'm glad Barron recovered from his food poisoning. I've had it several times in my life, a couple times very badly, so I know how awful it feels. You guys are a tough lot with great resilience. Thank you for sharing your ups and downs with us. Love from Massachusetts.
I always admire her commitment to the food variety ( this and other videos).I take Stove Top, packet chicken and plain oatmeal to eat and that's it. Can't be bothered on trail to make the effort.
Ahh so addicting!! You guys should be on tv!! Idk why but I couldn't stop watching this!! Thanks for sharing your awesome adventures with us. So sorry you got sick. You guys are friggin champs. Lol God bless. Stay safe. 💚💚
Glad Barons is okay, Elsa's food looks more healthy and it is homemade not packaged. Love your trip with your friends it is nice to see what you all are doing. Kamp is living the good life because of you two. Blessings and stay safe.
So, I haven't even watched this yet, but wanted to tell you that I absolutely love it whenever it's time for me to finally sit down, have a late lunch, cast a YT vid on my TV, and you and Baron show up in my subscriptions with a new video! Oh, Happy Day!
Stellar video as usual. So sorry Barron got sick and I think you are spot in about the food poisoning. What a shame bc I actually like that brand of bp meals.
I have been searching (mining) for just the right type of videos on camping, backpacking and have finally struck gold. Real information, to the point, beautifully filmed and edited, and a style of narration that is addictive. I am never tempted to just skip ahead to avoid all of the usual blah, blah, blah, as things are over-explained to fill up time. So well done!
It takes a real man to admit when he has shat himself in the woods. Im so sorry this all happened to you. But Im glad that the first couple of days were good fun!
Really enjoyed both recent videos and appreciate the work that went into making and editing them. Elsa, you are a warrior, Barron, I am SO sorry. Been there (in Guatemala) and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Glad you are both ok and such a trail of stories you have to tell the grandkids someday.
Looked absolutely beautiful. My favorite thing to have with wild berries is trout . Cook the berries down the natural sugars cause it to caramelize then spread it over the trout. Good stuff.
I have a dog/ cat, a Maine Coon, so I feel for Camp, and Barron, and really glad it wasn’t giardia or a bit of Amanita ! Th rainbow “ all in the lake,” made me love Barron even more. ELSA HAD YOUR BACK! More hiking and camping pleeeeeeze!!!!
Great video, loved the scenery!! Glad Barron made it through his ordeal. I had food poisoning while camping; ONE bite of a bad sandwich made for a very miserable night and a trip to the hospital to help get rehydrated! By the way…noticed Barron’s reading choices on his Kobo reader; “Hatchet “ is one of my favourite; make sure to also read “Brian’s Return “ and “Brian’s Winter “!!
Finally got to go on my first backpacking trip last weekend after living in Colorado for 2.5 years. It’s so cool to see y’all have a similar trip and learn from your trips as well
Sorry Barron got sick and shat himself. Sounds like you two had a decent time though regardless of that brief incident. Can't wait to see Barron's hunting video. Stay positive.
I got sick camping recently and I think it was that I didn't wash the lettuce properly. Everything else I have eaten many times. I too, think it was a rogue berry. Maybe had some e coli on it. I look forward to your videos. They are like short movies. Good times. A good story now that it's over.
So glad Barron is okay and doing much better. What a difficult thing to deal with. Definitely makes me think about trying to plan for what-ifs but it is impossible to plan for everything.
*Besides Barrons sickness, watching this was just beautiful!! I have never been hiking! I love nature and camping so I'm thinking maybe this is something I should take up!! Ty for sharing this!!*
Ugh! So sorry you had such a bad experience. Camping with those symptoms is definitely no fun. I eat Good to Go meals regularly (Pad Thai being one of my favs) and think they’re the best dehydrated meals I’ve ever tried. So many amazing options. Being from Maine, I’m happy to support a local business that offers truly awesome meals. I’ve never had a bad experience, thankfully. Anyway, I hope you don’t give up on this wonderful Maine Company. Also, my husband and I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work! Our pup, Eska, enjoys watching Kamp. 🥰
Hola Elsa & Barron! Awesome video!! I feel ur pain Barron I Hve had food poisoning 4 times living on the road and it’s some nasty sh*t for sure!! 🤮 Lol 😂
Stunning but sorry I got sick Barron but it was an amazing journey to be on with u all! I’m old n my heart is to weak now to do what I love n u doing it helps.. thanks u all
So excited to watch! Thanks for making my day!!! 👍👍👍👍👍 *post viewing: this trip .......WOW! So many smiles and laughs, I loved loved loved it! thanks for sharing this amazing trip 💜🐕😊
You guys are amazing! Hope you guys know that. Love how much you guys love to learn and just go for it. That view was just stunning!!! The rainbow 😍😍 so glad you’re feeling much better Barron!! So loving of you Elsa to step up and help your partner out. I pray
I just found your videos searching backpack stuff for the first time… love them! New fan & subscriber. I’m beginning the process of planning my first trip, so thanks for the education as well!
I’m so sorry you got sick Barron. I don’t know how you hiked that sick. Elsa you are a true heroine carrying so much weight. It was such a beautiful video.
Oh Crap. Beautiful hike. A bit of everything in this one. Kamp. Superdog +++. What a perfect buddy. 💞 I looked up those red mushrooms- any chance touching them along the way would contribute to the sickness ? First time sharing - I also had a shatting my pants episode in a very remote hike in Washington state. Right down onto my boots. There. I said it. Off my chest & mind now. Canadian here. British Columbia. Patiently waiting to be able to venture south again. ✌️
What an awesome trip [with the exception of Barron getting SO sick]!! As fellow travelers, you have got it all worked out, are adaptable to each and every bend of the road. I LOVE following your channel! It is such beautiful countryside, and as a nature photographer, I often find myself EXTREMELY frustrated that I can't capture the majesty, the magnitude and the inner peace and mindfulness that comes with it! Sadly, most people don't get it, can't see it [logistically/financially], etc. I truly admire you, Barron for your honesty! To ADMIT you "shat the bed" is a part of life when people get so, SO sick!! Some guys hit an emotional wall when they find spinach stuck in their teeth! 👏👏😊
I have never gotten so much joy from a channel before and I’ve been watching RU-vid for over 15 years. Thank you guys for being so amazing. I look forward to every single one of your videos💜
