The funny thing here is Worf has honed the normal Klingon mindless rage into a very keen tactical mind. He might have gotten dunked on in TNG but he owns the day in DS9
Yeah, he was honest about how difficult the mission was going to be, but when faced with a threatening jem’hadar, he was well up to the task of fighting them. He fought off nine of them in a row before finally succumbing to the tenth.
Many are very honorable and it really makes me feel bad for them seeing as they're just weapons for the Dominion, used and just thrown away like clone troopers in star wars
@@RBweb24 DS9 humanized the evil expendable mooks until they didn't actually feel like evil expendable mooks, anymore. And they did it pretty perfectly, Rocks and Shoals with the Jem'Hadar who aren't stupid, know exactly what they're getting into, know that they *have* a choice, but choose to serve the founders and obey the Vorta regardless because that's just what their value system is, and they are as good and honorable as they can be within that value system.
That's also true for most species shown on DS9. They're more developed than on other Trek shows, but then it's expected for a series with an ongoing story.
Almost refreshing. Prepped us lot to recognise the polarisation in our politics now. And also allowed for issues such as uigahr muslims in china or the plight of Palestians to be not so cut and dry. I feel someone in that writing room had a finger on the pulse of the dying civilisation we have right now. Back when it still had a few beats left in it. They did their best to warn us while ensuring we dont repeat past mistakes.. I worry right now were in the pale moonlight stage. How low can we collectively go to ensure a good future? Time will tell.
Brian Thompson who was a Klingon in TNG, really drives home the idea of being a Jem'Hadar this go around. He played many different characters in Star Trek. It is great to see him each time.
Plus, he was a former paratrooper in the 1/506th PIR, 101st airborne, according to Wikipedia. Williams began pursuing an acting career after spending two years as a paratrooper in C Company, 506th Infantry, of the 101st Airborne Division. He first appeared on Broadway in The Long Dream (1960). Continuing his work on stage, he appeared in Walk in Darkness (1963), Sarah and the Sax (1964), Doubletalk (1964), and King John. His breakout theatrical role was in William Hanley's Slow Dance on the Killing Ground, for which he received a Tony Award nomination. The New York Times drama critic Howard Taubman wrote of his performance, "Mr. Williams glides like a dancer, giving his long, fraudulently airy speeches the inner rhythms of fear and showing the nakedness of terror when he ceases to pretend." He also served as artist-in-residence at Brandeis University in 1966.
I always loved the Jem'Hadar 1st in this episode, he strikes me as a seasoned and wise warrior and he deeply cares for those under his command. He's so calm and direct, just exudes that "F around and find out" energy.
Worta and the Jem'Hadar are always at each others throats. I thought that this was programed by the Founders to keep them divided and thus preventing a combined rebellion. But maybe this is just naturally occurring jealousy. In this scene Weyum seems less disturbed when he finds out his secret is out, but is shocked when he sees that the Jem'Hadar still want to continue the mission. This shows that Jem'Hadar are truly loyal to the Founders, and not just some dumb animals that are forced into submission. This proves to Weyom that the Worta may be in charge, but are not superior to the Jem'Hadar. Their 'love' for the Founders is of the same intensity.
I love how from The Search onward the Jem'Hadar had this fascination with Klingons. All the Dominion wpying and research, and all the Jem'Hadar want to do is test themselves against the Klingons. Such an amazing dynamic. Every episode like that one, In Purgatory's shadow and by Inferno's light, etc are just awesome.
Not really if it had been born from respect maybe but this comes from the fact that they were genetically engineered to serve him it’s no differnt then a slave collar
@@seanbraley2772agreed. I can't imagine the Founders telling their troops "It's OK to kill some shapeshifters but not others." If a fight had broken out Odo would have been perfectly safe from harm.
@@tompearce5418 they would never dare to try, since it'd create a precedent. if some shapeshifters can be killed, so can the others, which would eventually result in a rebellion.
Interesting how the Jem'Hadar have no fear of death. To them, it's a sign of bravery, but to the Founders who made them not to fear death, it's because they simply don't care if they die. The Jem'Hadar are purely expendable canon fodder so why instill them with any more than the minimal amount of survival instinct than is needed to keep them alive long enough to train for battle?
The Jem'Hedar are the only faction of the Dominion that I wanted to see win. I would have loved to see them become a permanent faction in a new series.
0:51 Worf: You challenge me to combat? Jem'Hadar: Kombat. Weyoun: I must admit this Jem'Hadar is most peculiar, always seems to addresses the C with a K for some reason. (On a side note the Jem'Hadar was shao khan in Mortal kombat annihilation. Enough talk; *Finish him!* )

Cowardice can be a matter of cultural perception. Japanese soldiers believed Americans were cowards because they did not fight to the death and Americans thought Japanese were cowards for committing suicide when they were defeated. There seems to be something similar between Klingons and Jem Hadar.
@@a.garcia3605 *Almost* all of them. His final opponent conceded only because he did not wish to dishonor Worf by killing him in cold blood when he could no longer fight back.
What saddens me is that Worf, and yes in Picard's defense he did play a much more predominant role, was still painfully underused as he has become what the Klingons have the potential to become. Not mindless throat slitters, but highly tactical, extremely capable officers and personnel. And even their non military people as ship and weapon designers, technology, culture and art. When they first appeared in ST TOS ,they were simply an enemy the Federation occasionally quarreled with. And now unlike the Jem'Hadar, they are not mindless zombies merely waiting for their Ketracel White, they could very well become the Federation's most elite offensive and defensive arm and be it's "sword" when needed. And yes ,they will always be needed as the Federation invents more advanced warp drives and can reach even further into and eventually outside their galaxy to others. The Organians "You will become fast friends and explore the galaxy together" is coming to pass.
In the episode where Worf and Bashere are prisoners on the asteriod and Worf is forced to fight the Jem'Hadar gaurds. This 'scene' crystalized Worf's not giving up against the Jem'Hadar 1st, who declared 'I can only kill him, not defeat him!' and wouldn't fight Worf anymore!.
Remember they are bio engineered by the founders, they probably don't have them. Plus no female Jem'Hadar are mentioned, so the founders thought one would be 'a waste' of genetic material.
The Vorta and the Jem'Hadar are an interesting duology of their loyalty to the founders. Both were propagated to revere the Founders as gods, but for different reasons. Vorta were bred to be advisors, subordinates, to carry out the orders of the founders with fine tuned respect. They're the whipping boys of the Founders. The Jem'Hadar are bred to be the arm of the Founders, to fight and kill and eventually die. To them, nothing matters but results and total victory. The Vorta see the Jem'Hadar as barbarians. The Jem'Haadar see the Vorta as stuck-up politicians. In truth, neither of them are allowed to even acknowledge one another's cultures for what they were created to do. The Vorta value loyalty and honesty but keep secrets. The Jem'Hadar value ferocity and courage, but are arrogant in their perceived combat superiority.
1:32 I always felt a little sorry for the lone Jem'Hadar. Everyone else had a light stun. But he was brutally beaten down. Thankfully Worf did not Weyoun him. 😅
It's funny how the turbolift on the Defiant takes so long to get anywhere. The ship is so small that it probably only needs a single vertical elevator with no horizontal shafts.
When bullies talk, nobody control them, but as soon the one being bullied goes for their throat, now they want to control the one being bullied. Never change and never understood it.
Gotta wonder if the Jem'Hadar have historical reasons to be loyal to the Founders. According to myth the Vorta were recruited as administrators after assisting a fugitive shapeshifter; do the Jem'Hadar have reason to be grateful to Odo's people as well?
Not only historial, they're both genetically engineered, Vorta and Jem' Hadar, by the Founders themselves. The Vorta with a sense that the Founders are Gods, an intrinsic feeling shared by the Jem'Hadar, which in turn were completely made to be subservient and dependent on the Founders
Love the Jem’Hadar, they make Klingons look like cowards. The Jem’Hadar enter battle as though they have already died and only by victory do they reclaim their lives.
I'm surprised that they would call him a coward considering that, while Worf was in a Jem' Hadar prison, he defeated 12 Jem' Hadar for 2 days straight.
Toman'torax didn't realize how close he came to death antagonizing Worf. Worf is a Jem'Hadar killing machine. When the Jem'Hadar held him as prisoner and forced him to fight he killed 7 of them.
Chief O'Brien is a battle-hardened warrior and career enlisted man. I have a hard time believing he would verbally object to staying in the room to ensure the explosives were set.
Isnt that short Gem Haddar also the male actor who played Shao Khan in the Mortal Kombat Annihilation movie, or the main bad guy in Cyborg (van damn movie)?
Sometimes I feel like the crew of USS Voyager have it a bit easier being far away from all this. I know they have their own hardships, but those guys are just star trekking with no knowledge of all this war.
Nope. Jemhedar are losers. They don't have sex or celebrate their victories. They're nothing more than dogs of the dominion. And they're junkies. Worf and the dahar master kick they a$$
No you won't. The Klingons are corrupt and decadent society on the edge of collapse. Their deep corruption is a long running theme in both TNG and DS9/
I hated how the Jim harder punked out the Klingons for awhile I mean it's one thing to bring in a new warrior race but you don't have to strip the old one of there divinity and make them pointless iam glad they gave the Klingons there dignity back later on
Hey this just hit me, with Picard why did we not see the Jem ' Hadar, that would have been interesting, the Borg improve them and Worf is like today is a good day to die. Everyone looks at him and is like bad joke.
Picard Season 3 Worf alternate dialogue: Toman'torax: One day the Klingon Empire will fall. Zen Master Worf: I will make us some tea and we will discuss the futility of killing each other.
