Sky Sports wanted Paul Nicholson to be a top player so bad back then. He played the villian so well at a time when Taylor was stomping everyone out.

Paul was at his funniest when him and Simon lost in the final to Taylor and Lewis where he half heartedly punched the wall 😂😂

Im still baffled all these years later how Nicholson played with the Australian World cup team with that thick Geordie accent

You can tell so much he’s a wrestling fan. He wanted to be a heel and loved it. The difference between him and Price is that Paul asked for the hate and could take it.

I love paul nicholson met him a few times always polite always honest with an answer to a question hope he gets his tour card back we need to see more of paul playing darts

Can be easy to hate him but I appreciate the drama, heartbreak and entertainment, would love to see him play again but also love him as a commentator. All the best Paul!

I don't think Taylor was the only player to dislike him. Nicholson is about as charismatic as a mouthful of phlegm.

Let’s face it, comparing Paul to Phil is like comparing Grimsby to Man U…no disrespect to Grimsby FC ( just promoted to div2, marvellous) Paul’s one moment in the sun is only because it involved the greatest ever darts player. A bit of Phil’s light reflected on him. Apart from that he isn’t even in Simon Whitlock’s league. I like his commentary….an Aussi with a Geordie accent, lol….but as far as darts, he couldn’t sustain any decent level for more than a few weeks. I’ve heard he’s making a comeback…comeback to what, being average?

Am I the only one that found his antics entertaining? I had no issue with him. I'd happily have him back at his best and look forward to seeing him play the likes of Price etc. Been a long time since he was at the top table though

He deserved one crack at the Premier League. He was box office, and was playing well enough. It could’ve gone o r of two ways, he would’ve enjoyed it so much and got the wins, or he could’ve done a Webby and became demoralised. Cracking dart player

This guy was a brilliant pantomime villain, the fact that he already looked like a Bond villain's sidekick, like the evil inventor made it better. Nowadays he's by far the best commentator.

This is the same man who also says he was the catalyst for Australian darts, and bemoans that he doesn't get the acclaim he deserves from them? Talks a good talk but compared to Taylor he is not in the picture. Acknowledgement that he was a good player, but he is still a relatively young man who is already living on his past , because he bottled.

Two things, has Mark joined Star Fleet! thats a star trek uniform right! and then, Phil Taylor was in my opinion a win at all costs player, he deployed gamesmanship to the highest order to intimidate, yes he was the Best player, however he was also the biggest bully! and absolutely hated losing! i personally think he went too far! however the records books show he is the greatest winner ever! Maybe Paul gave Phil too much of his own medicne in the intimidation game and he does not like it, reference the Mardle question re Painter, Phil hated it and went in to "intimidation mode"

What you should have done, Paul, on nailing that winning double was shake the man's hand & show him that all his pre-match rib poking & story telling didn't work. Waving ANY opponent off IS disrespectful unsporting & childish. You wouldn't have appreciated it yourself and frankly, it's nowt to brag about.

Really like Nicholson and I am glad he is still in the game through commentating. He has not had an easy road in darts either, he got some serious stick as a player, which some people would say he deserved every bit of it - I thought he was great entertainment! I can always remember going to the UK open around 2008? Nicholson was on, the cursing at him was mental, I even met one group of lads who were claiming they got tickets just to heckle Nicholson.

Each and every top player on their game will beat anyone ... I never liked Taylor, his skill and talent is beyond question but he always came across as a sly, manipulative so and so ... but at this level it's the mind games that set you apart and behind the scenes he was an absolute master at it so some matches, if you weren't strong enough to deal with it, it was won before he even did the walk on so kudos to him ...

Webster looks like an extra from Star Trek! I wish Paul would try to get back on the tour. A lot of people didn't like him at the time but I appreciated what he was trying to do - playing the heel, creating a character... kinda backfired. But he has too much talent to waste his prime years away from the oche.
