Have you ever made this mistake in a poker game? Have you ever made it for this much money? Watch this poker hand as we look at a hand from The Hustler Casino Live stream as part of their Thirsty Thursday show.
We have a huge multiway pot as 6 people decide to see the flop for $500 each. This means that the range of hands that you should continue with should be far narrower as there is a much higher chance that your marginal made hands will be beat.
Jonathan agrees with Dr H's size of 50% pot on the flop although typically in multiway pots you should generally choose a small bet size as there are lots of potential nutted hands due to the amount of players in the pot. However most people in multiway pots when playing live poker will generally just bet all of their good hands to try and build a pot. Jonathan believes that San Man's call on the turn is 'optimisic' with a very bad backdoor draw and just six high.
Jonathan thinks that Dr H should have used a smaller size on the turn as there are less hands that will now call a bigger bet. San Man should definitely fold his hand at this point, yet he continues!
David Tuchman the commentator from Hustler Casino Live exclaims - 'What is going on here? Do we have San Man's hand wrong?'
Jonathan states that understanding your opponents tendencies on the river is key to figuring out the best course of action. If Dr H believes that San Man's strong hands would have played more aggressively then it is much easier for him to find a value shove with pocket queens here.
Dr. H is introduced as being a chemist; he is an amateur poker player, but often plays at The Hustler Casino. San Man, is also an amateur player. He plays on the stream usually on Thursdays and Mondays.
Hustler Casino Live is a full-scale, high-value production. Close to a million dollars was spent transforming the casino’s high-limit poker room, the Crystal Room, into the set of this new state-of-the-art live show. Hustler Casino Live looks more like coverage of a TV broadcast sporting event and appeals to those beyond the poker community. Unscripted and unedited, they host regular streams such as ‘Max Pain Monday’ and ‘Thirsty Thursday’. Some of the notable players to appear on the show have been Phl Ivey, Tom Dwan, Phil Hellmuth, Chris Moneymaker, Doug Polk, Garrett Adelstein, Tony G, and many more.
Thirsty Thursday is an enjoyable poker stream with a list of regulars and newcomers that is aimed to include bomb pots and straddles. They also encourage everyone at the table to have a good time and have a few alcoholic beverages to cause more action, table talk & a fun poker environment.
🚀 Pre-Flop:
Playing $10/$20/$40 with a $100 straddle on, Sia The Bot opens the action with a call with A3o from early position, and Vertucci the Hustler Casino Live producer raises to $500 with his AK of hearts. San Man, Dr. H, Sun, and Dr. P all join the action with calls with all various holdings but most importantly San Man has 64 off suit. The pot heading into the flop is already swelling at $3,070.
🃏 The Flop: Tc 9h 5s
Dr H likes his pocket queens on this flop and decides to bet $1,500 which only picks up a call from San Man with.. 6 high?
💥 Turn: 5h
San Man checks again, and Dr. H still correctly believes he has the best hand and bets $4,500. San Man makes the call once more with this six high, building the pot to $15,070.
🌊 River: Js
With the board complete, San Man checks one more time, and Dr. H unleashes a a pot size bet of $14,300 which is all of San Man's chips. Surely he will fold now? Watch this poker video to find out!

Here is my preflop routine: Wait for the action to be on me, look, act. If I am still in the pot, I check my cards right before or as the flop is dealt and commit them to memory: "Jack of hearts, 10 of spades". I do this even if I am suited or paired for consistency. I key on the suits as well as rank so I'm never the "check for the 4th heart" guy on the turn.

This legit happens. San man was probably tired and convinced himself he had something etc. I've done it as well, I misread my hand as Aces when in fact I just had ace 4. YUp... things the mind will do when you don't realize you are tired.

I watched a guy muck a straight flush at showdown vs an ace high flush. He saw the 4th club come on the river and proceeded to forget that was the card he needed to make his straight flush…

I use to work in casino which was right outside night clubs, we would get busy after 2.30 midnight after clubs close, getting lots of drunk college students and people who didn’t know what they doing, best one I’ve seen was a guy on the river goes all in and shows his hands straight away (before other guys action) the other player in the hand gets mad “What are you doing I didn’t do anything yet” So then the player proceeded to look at the hand that was shown and the board and the hand again then the board (The hand that was shown was Ace high flush “the nuts”) After looking at the hand and the board a couple of times the player proceeds to call and show king high flush 🤣🤣 couldn’t write this stuff I swear

One time I thought I had QQ and played the entire hand to the river on a board of underpairs, got dude off top pair and told him good fold and showed Q3 and was just as shocked as he was

Was playing a local tournament and this guy sits down and acts out of turn 2x in 30 minutes so floor gets called and they say one more time you have to sit out an orbit, this sweet 90+ year old old lady at the table insists he was on his 3rd mistake already the first being him sitting at the table. Never seen a table light up like that before. 😂

When I’m UTG, I usually look at my cards one at a time right after they’re pitched. One time I looked at the first card, it was an A. Then when the second card came, I took a look, and it was also an A. Turns out I looked at the same card twice. But I looked back before the flop as I usually do, so I didn’t lose much.

There is a royal flush bonus in the poker room where I play for one percent of the bad beat. It has to get to showdown. The biggest mistake I saw somebody make was betting his royal flush and getting the folds. Cost him about $1700.

I never played live as I'm living in Germany. However, I put Villain on a 2pair/Set/flopped straight and called his big flop bet mining for the second nuts flush. I got there on the turn and check raised him all in (Villain was kind of a calling station and way too aggressive). At least so I thought. My raise left him behind with roughly 1BB, and he reraised all in within a second. In that time frame (I was multitabling) I intended to play at another table and happened to accidentally hit my M1 when picking up the mouse again and just so happened to snap fold to his 1BB reraise. To further make this stand out as my worst mistake, this was just about after I moved up stakes.

@@Souli12 well first off there aren't many places to go to. That aside, I don't have a substantial enough bankroll to play live yet. It's only legal to play in the big casinos which there are just 15-20 of in Germany. Playing poker as a hobby with the goal of actually making it my living a few years down the road but I'm not there just yet (I started playing poker this May)

@@h3ckt068 Bankroll is a good point. As a (Poker)Dealer in Germany, let me tell you that in my experience live players in 2/4 games are pretty weak. Most of the time 2 out of 10 are better. Right now im on the same path as you with the difference I just want to have a fun hobby to make some cash if an opportunity arise to play for a living I will maybe reconsider it. Best of luck for your future!
@h3ckt068
@h3ckt068 9 месяцев назад
@@Souli12 that's good to know. Though the live competition still doesn't compare to online micro stakes I'd assume. It feels very far from strategy or gto what some people at 0.02/0.05 and 0.05/0.1 are doing. I'm more of a tournament enjoyer but there are basically none in Germany from what I've gathered? I can't really make out what kind of winnings are supposed to be given out if it's not straight up cash.

I have made the same mistake. Different hand and at 1/3. Thought I was check raising the nut straight on the river. Turns out I had a pair. I just said nice playing and went home.

Sweating an older guy at 1-3, NYC underground 2002, he's looking to complete his strsight. Pot is $1100 by the river, where his straight missed but he backdoored nut flush. He shows me his hand, snacks or in the face with his other hand and mucks in dishust while i stood in silent horror.

Not too long ago actually... a few weeks ago... I TURNED OVER MY CARDS WHILE making the river bet. I had NO idea I had done it. I thought maybe I'd caught them with the chips, but the guy next to me said nope - I'd flipped them over as if the hand was over. No memory of doing that, but there they were, face up on the table.

Years ago in a $1-3 NL Hold''em game in Biloxi, one player had been running over the table and I finally picked up the red Ace and was happy to get all the money in against on King high flop ($1600 pot). When I turned up my Aces was disappointed to find Ah4d. It hardly mattered because I was against KK. Lesson leaned - don't put in all your money without checking your cards!

I do this when playing on my phone as the screen is smaller and the suits are harder to determine sometimes.

Biggest mistake I’ve seen recently was my own lol. Going to the flop I thought I had T8 suited (pretty sure I had this on the previous hand) flop was 89J multiway pot gets really big turn Q river I don’t remember atm guy bets I made what would’ve been a really good bet with T8 and the guy calls, and I confidently flip over 78 suited for 4th pair. Tried to play it off as a bluff afterwards but it was pretty obvious I was betting for value since I tabled my hand as soon as he called. $1400 pot

I did this one time recently in Cherokee... looked down Ad3d... I call an open with 1-2 other callers. I call cbet after flopping FD. Turn no flush..call. River is the diamond. Guy bets...fold...I raise pretty hard. He thinks for about 10 mins (fwiw he was a bit inebriated). Says well, if you have the fish you have me beat and calls with a straight. I flip over my hand and say flush...but I'm holding Ad3h lol!

Watched a player make a river bet. This player has headphones on. Other player tanks then announces call and turns his hand over. Headphone player didn't hear the call, due to those headphones, and assumed the player was folding and showing. So he mucks the winning hand and waited to collect the pot. When the pot goes to the other player, he complains but quickly realises that the error is entirely on him and his hand is well into the muck at this point. He had to walk away from the table for a little bit to compose himself.

Sandman seems to have had sleep in his eyes.... One hand I fired 2 streets thinking I flopped a boat AA8 but actually had 48o. When the villain tanked for about 2 min I finally looked again. When he begrudgingly made the call I just jammed as the dealer was burning the last card to the river. The guy just frowned, called me a donk and mucked. He didn't know how right he was... in that hand. 🏈🦿
