Rakim is the 1st GREAT lyricist. He is the moment when rap went from ABC rhyme schemes to complex schemes and intricate rhymes . His blueprint was studied by the next generation of lyricists who were Nas, Wu Tang, Biggie, Jay-Z, AZ , Jadakiss, basically everyone who took pride in their pen from that point forward . Rakim was their Jordan .
Rakim is considered The God MC. There would be no Nas, Jay Z, J Cole, or Kendrick if it wasn't for Rakim. He truly changed everything about being a MC.
To the Kids doing this video, RAKIM is Not a Top 10 , the Line Begins to form AFTER HIM !!! He is THE GOD MC , THE Father of the STYLE that everyone after him should pay HOMAGE TOO ! HE CHANGED THE GAME SINGLE HANDEDLY! DO YOUR HOMEWORK
@@jay2dav_993 Rakim is the top ((( BUT ))) 2Pac was the absolute epitome of a Rapper / Rap Artist / Rap Star. Lyrically, no… he barely cracks the top 10. His passion, delivery, sound, prolific writing sets him high.
“So follow me and while you're thinking you were first Let's travel at magnificent speeds around the universe What could you say as the Earth gets further and further away Planets as small as balls of clay Astray into the Milky Way, worlds out of sight Far as the eye can see not even a satellite Now stop and turn around and look As you stare in the darkness, your knowledge is took So keep staring, soon you suddenly see a star You better follow it, 'cause it's the R”
From century to century, you'll remember me In history, not a mystery or a memory God by nature, mind raised in Asia Since you was tricked, I have to raise ya From the cradle to the grave But remember - you're not a slave 'Cause we was put here to be much more than that But we couldn't see because our mind was trapped But I'm here to break away the chains, take away the pains Remake the brains, rebuild my name
This rhyme is why Rakim was one of my Mom’s (r.i.p) favorite MCs. Crazy cause Hip Hop is my era (I’m 52), and her era proceeded that obviously. I could play his songs as loud and in front of her and my Dad (r.i.p), cause he dropped knowledge and didn’t curse. She also loved PAC (r.i.p) too, because of his rebellious nature and probably because she and my pop’s were from the Bay. Thanx for bringing back the memories.
Great reaction. Rakim is The God MC but there’s a lot more to it. I break down my top mc’s list by era. 1. Grand Master Caz, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Kool Moe Dee 2. Run (from Run DMC), LL Cool J, Kool Moe Dee 3. This order always changes but Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Krs-1 & Kool G Rap are almost always in my top 5. Chuck D from Public Enemy fits in here as well. They gave birth to 4. Big Pun, Biggie, Pac, Nas, Jay Z, Redman, Busta Rhymes, Treach (Naughty by Nature), Black Thought (The Roots), Eminem & Pharoahe Monch. ✌🏾
Two eras of Hip hop: before Rakim and after Rakim. When he dropped, rappers changed their styles and the war they wrote their lyrics. He raised a bar that very few were able to reach.
Next up from Eric B & Rakim: ‘Know the Ledge’, ‘Microphone Fiend’, ‘Let the Rhythm Hit ‘Em’, Musical Massacre’, ‘Rest Assured’, ‘Don’t Sweat the Technique’, ‘Run for Cover’.
Rakim is #1 on my list. He’s the demarcation line of hip hop. There’s hip hop before Rakim and then after. Everything that came after Rakim is touched by him.
Rakim is definitely in my top 10, possibly top 5. No one was rapping like him in the late 80's, he literally changed the way rappers rapped, he's a pioneer.
Rakim pound for pound is considered the greatest of all time and the one emcee who literally changed the way people rhyme. Here is a list of people who have quoted his lyrics in their rhymes and claimed in as their biggest influence and they are all on records saying so: Pharoahe Monch, Black Thought, NAS, Jay- Z, Ras Kass, AZ, Beanie Sigel, Styles P, Commin, Kanye, T. I. , Ludacris, Nick Grant, Cee-lo, Goodi Mob, OutKast, Jay Electronica, Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre, Tray- Dee, Eminem, Maino, DJ Premier, CL Smooth, Chuck D from Public Enemy, Will Smith, Large Professor, Grand Puba, Brand Nubians, Twista, Canibus, Kurupt, Brotha J, Missy Elliot, Timbaland, Souls of Mischief, Freestyle Fellowship, Ice Cube, DJ Kay Slay, Pete Rock, DMX.
You two young Brothers are sharp, you piing up on everything and they don't make music or videos like this anymore. Also notice, NO PROFANITY, but the lyrics tell you just what they should. I went from DC to NYC just o check them out live in the club and lost my mind. You need to check out Microphone Fiend!!! Big Up
I was 15 when this tune was released in the UK 🇬🇧. Hes one of the best Rappers out there to date , teaching truth in this tune . Meditation, organised society ie govermants are the mafia we are slaves from cradle to grave . God created eternal beings . Pull up the lyrics so you can get a better understanding of what he's teaching you rather than get distracted by the video. You both are awsom , love your energy 🇬🇧🙏❤
When hes getting the shave. That's from The Untouchables 1987 movie. Robert De Niro playing Al Capone. The video came out a year later it's cool they use that scene. He purposely gets cut by the Barber to show he's not a violent man.
Man I don’t know how the hell I came across y’all channel but I’m glad I did, you young brothers got me laughing I love y’all knowledge and learning about old school hiphop, Rakim is the God MC , best MC in my opinion, y’all keep doing y’all thing, he’s the #1 on my list, Nas my #2 of all time
Satanism has totally destroyed hip hop, Hip hop used to be about expressing knowledge of self, detailing the of ebb and flow of black American struggles and growth. Rakim was one of the best to do it. No curse words or naked women, just a masculine man commanding your attention with word play and confidence. This is a dying art form. I pray for a return to it. Thanks for the upload, it was nostalgic
I know this is a year old but there's like a trinity of old school MC's that were ahead of their time lyrically as far as how they put words together (wordplay, multi-syllables, etc.) it was Rakim Allah (Eric B. & Rakim), Big Daddy Kane & Kool G. Rap (Kool G. Rap & Polo). Sometimes people throw KRS-ONE (BDP) into that mix who def deserves those props but he was more ahead of his time content wise. Side note: we call them Old School but technically they came out in the so-called New School era. If y'all still looking for newer artists with advanced rhyme styles I'd suggest Crooked I and The Horseshoe Gang for starters but there's a lot more. For some reason though a lot of the newer artists who are lyrically tight don't always make the best music though like they did in the Eric B. & Rakim era.
Rakim is the Well Spring from which all the Rap that followed after him, was heavily influenced by! His style and flow was unmatched then and even today! That's also why he is largely regarded as the GOAT in the Hip Hop Rap Game! Rakim came from a Musical🎶 family and actually played the Saxophone🎷when he was younger. That's a major reason why his rhymes schemes and bars where ahead of his time! Rakim understood Music🎶 and how to fit rhymes into the Bars with timing and rhythm like a trained Musician!🎷
cant forget to check out ''Big Daddy Kane'' he is also on the same level as rakim from his era with tracks like '' r.a.w'' & ''set it off'' & ''warm it up kane''
Rakim changed hip hop with one song “Check Out My Melody in the mid 80’s. He was first to spit simply complexed lyrical slow flow and taught emcees how to ride the beat. What y’all need to listen to is Mahogany that will give you a different perspective on how to interact with a woman. If you built for it at least. Y’all keep ya wave 🌊
Rakim was one of the first, if not the first rapper to speed up the cadence and have more complicated rhyme schemes. He might be quoted the most of all MC's. Def top 10.
Tris & Jay Salute to u both for the Rakim reactions💯 Please keep the Ra reactions coming by Doing these 3 songs * Let the rhythm hit em🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 * Lyrics of fury🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 * Juice( know the ledge)🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 There’s plenty more of Ra to react to but do these 3💯…. I will be watching👀 🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤
Rakim is #1 the God Mc. In this song he says “I could take a phrase that’s rarely heard, flip it, now its a daily word” In this song he was the first to say Flow as a description of how he rhythms & that word is still used in hip hop decades later alone with many more he said….smh…Nice reaction Do know the ledge next.
He's up there... top 3. Clearly an originator, with a sick flow and super creativity. You want an Old School killa... Check out Gangstar. Skillz, Mass Appeal and Ex to the Next. Good energy fellas.
They call Rakim ''The God'' because he was the first lyricist to add rhythm to rhymes. You have to remember that album dropped in 1986-87, AND NO CURSING! It's funny to see young cats' reactions.
Yall definitely need to check out Lyrics of Fury and Microphone Fiend also Don't Sweat the Technique(Other Eric B.& Rakim classics) Another MC to peep is Big L- known as the punchline king(1995 freestyle w/Jay-Z Devil's Son 1998(solo freestyle) are a few examples
Forgot to add my top 10 but right now it goes something like (top to bottom more or less) Biggie Rakim Andre 3000 MF DOOM Ghostface Nas Black Thought Raekwon Kendrick Eminem
