He Left the UK to Build the Biggest Drink Company in Nigeria 

I’m a business owner in the US and I started from scratch, ground up with nothing. I’m thankful for the large loan that the US bank gave me to start up, it’s not as if everyone in the US can get that. Just imagine being a working class/middle class Nigerian trying to start up a business. When he said his business died 10X and had to be resurrected, I completely and totally understand him. In spite of the large loan I received, that money runs out real quick b/c of the large monthly expenses here in the US. I contemplated shutting down my business several times, my husband was getting tired of working 48 hr shifts to help pay the bills b/c honestly I wasn’t bringing in anything. Fast forward to now, the business is now THRIVING and my children and parents are on the payroll. I just wanted to say I know exactly what he meant!

I worked under lanre for about 3 to 4 year’s all i can say is he’s a great guy

But we need to invest more energy in fighting tribalism amongst ourselves, we seems to sweep it under the rug because we have a perfect excuse ‘racism’. Everywhere in an African country there is tribalism, one tribe feeling superior than the other etc. I think tribalism is one of the things that keeps Africans behind.

It's so tough doing business in Nigeria. The government doesn't understand that small businesses are the back bone of every economy. It's a shame that people are trying hard to build something but they are doing their best to see it fail. So many smart people in Nigeria... Dude is also very spot on the discrimination of black people across the world. I have been saying this. The day Africa gets it right, racism will cease to exist across the world.

We need a Nigerian brand. Nigeria's Kaikai ( spirit derived from distilled palm wine )is already a nice name. This local brew has potential for refining in the smooth sophisticated sense. We could have two versions: one that is diluted which we could label smooth kaikai and an undiluted one, maybe flavoured with local herbs, that we could label Superior Kai. Anyway , just a thought.

I will be sure to look it up when I am in Nigeria. This is why we are proud of our great country. This type of progress is what we were praying for in Nigeria in the 90s. This business is standard, no one from anywhere on the planet will walk into the shop and look down on Nigeria. It is as good as you get anywhere and you can bet that it will be first amongst equals in a few decades time. I see a great future for our country when Nigerians in the diasporas are enabled and empowered to return home to make a difference. Our government must create an enable environment for start up businesses to thrive in Nigeria, the cost of running business in Nigeria must reduce, electricity generation, supply and distribution must become stable in Nigeria. Businesses and homes with solar panels on the rooftops should be able to sell power back to the national grid like is being done in the UK. We are the children of the sun for God’s sake! We need intelligent patriotic people in government and not corrupt and incompetent career politicians without honour and love of Africa in their genes. For the diasporas to return in large numbers Nigeria must guarantee the security of lives and property and the rule of law must be enforced across the board. Institutional corruption must be tackled too and you will see an exodus of Nigerians returning home to compete on our ancestral lands and Africa will become our playground. I have relatives who returned to Nigeria for a one month holiday and doing feasibility studies to start business and one of them is already back in the UK promising never to retire to Nigeria or live there besides coming on holiday due to and unbelievable level of corruption. This is a huge problem, not everyone can navigate the challenges in Nigeria successfully because it’s frustrating and we have come a long way as a people. It would be a dream come through when I see an exodus of a Nigerians coming home to invest and to live in Nigeria in my lifetime. We must all start working towards building a foundation for another golden age in Africa again! Thank you very much for making this video!
