I don’t care how this fight stacks up to the newer stuff, it’s still in my personal top 10. The “He-Man!” every time he does something, the music, the jokes. It’s all great. Mostly. The fight is officially down in my top 20 solely because this entire recent season has been peak animation wise.
A race of one is not a race.... its just one person. And unless there is a female for Lion-o to breed with, his "race" was already extinct; he was just a lingering remnant of a former race. 🤔
Battle Cat: *roars* "I miss my balls!" Little Kid me thinking: "Aww...he misses his kitty toys!" Big Adult me: ".....Oh, you mean you misses THOSE BALLS!"
Plus, it's not all about raw strength. Batman fights Superman all the time, even though Superman is vastly stronger than him. The Eye of Thundera is a very powerful artifact that could have destroyed He-Man and given Lion-O the victory (as they imply in the episode), but He-Man ended up pulling ahead in the end.
And the tree thing is not his strongest feat, he can also request more strength with his sword of omens, its more of an even match than you know, death battle Glosses over a lot to make their decisions look fair when it's actually not
Absolutely this would be one of the best Villain Matchups of all Time, I have been waiting for this since I was a Child, Come On Death Battle Mumm-Ra vs. Skeletor needs to Happen!!!!!!!
Spoiler: So wait, seeing as that jewel in the Sword of Omens is the life source of all of Lion-O’s kind, doesn’t that mean at the end of the day this Death Battle led to the death of 6 characters in total?
One of the best things about this episode is that they used music from both cartoons. I do think that Thundercats had one of the best soundtracks for an 80s cartoon.
I love your Netflix ad that says “you can watch anything you want whenever you want”... you know; everything except Thundercats and Masters of the Universe.
+Illoosion If this fight ever became remastered for any reason, it should be remastered as a 1980s cartoon animation fight, would be ideal to include the VHS track-lines as a reference to the 1980s as well =)
Is only bad if you compare it to the original in power (I mean the original was absurdly op) and I really enjoyed the reboot is not perfect but it could be enjoyable
It's not much of a match up. While this was one sided towards He-Man, Mumm-Ra would be the victor in that one. Though it would be a closer fight since Skeletor does go toe to toe with He-Man frequently.
On his defense, he has no idea destroying the gemstone would kill Lion-O [asuming he was not already dead at that point]; even less that it will magically remove the life of all members of a certain species across the universe.
He-Man and Teela always had a flirtatious relationship. There was nothing questionable about his sexual preference. I don't know about Lion-o, but I've never noticed anything questionable about him.
I like how y'all kept to their character even to that when He Man beat Lion O he didn't kill him directly he crushed the Eye of Thundara because it threatened to kill him if he didn't ultimately leading to Lion O's death.
If this was He-Man from the 2021 cartoon he'd have died at the beginning of the fight and the rest would consist of Teela bitching about how his not telling her the fact he was Prince Adam in disguise affected her.
I still think this is the best Death Battle, but that’s probably because I grew up with both shows and they both hold a special place in my heart. I love seeing my childhood heroes brutally murder each other!

This is funny now because Lion-O was actually winning when he was fighting a rogue/corrupted He-Man in a crossover comic. Regardless I 100% agree with the result.
I’d like to think that the 80’s were just un-afraid to use their imaginations when it came to cartoons; I know it ain’t for kids but it’s just a reference, but look at “heavy metal”, aliens doin’ drugs, (which goes by a name the writers invented) and the list goes on haha
