There are good shoe shiners but there are also the ones that looks harmless and even innocent and they are just waiting to see who they scam or even rob. There is a guy who records shoe shining in Mexico videos. He shows the USD at $1.25-$1.50 for almost every video. They do amazing jobs. This guy did a terrible job and just wanted to scam you.

Have mentioned this before. Overpaying or over tipping is wrong and counter -productive. It does more harm than good. I have been taken a number of times, when "service charge" was included in check (not mentioned) and I tipped on top of that. I felt taken. I was taken. I know you feel that you are doing a Vlog and treat the vendors as if they are "actors" - wrong. Pay the standard price plus a decent tip-thats it. What I've found works pretty well with shysters like this is to just pay them the amount you think is very reasonable, say "thank you" and walk away. If you ask "how much?", you are doomed.

Always agree on a price before anything happens. Same thing happened to me in Costa Rica one time, the guy called the cops on me (who I later found out were in on the scam) and after a lot of back and forth Ithe POS ended up getting $45 out of me for a $5 shine. May not sound like a lot but consider they do this to 50 people a day and it adds up.
