That monologue fucking kills me everytime knowing that Richard (the actor) is talking about his actual life. The emotions are so raw and visceral, I don’t know how he was able to basically relive his own trauma by starring in this show.
It might have been a cathartic experience for him. He was also in control of the situation, able to tell what he wants and how he wants. I don’t know, that’s what makes sense to me as someone who has experienced some similar things.
It was a one man show first. That's how netflix discovered him in the West End. Aparently he used to play some real voicemails "Martha" left him. However this would have been on another level.
That monologue was originally 18 minutes long. Which is impressive until you realize the real-life version of it was the hour-long stage shows that Gadd did. Especially Monkey See, Monkey Do, where he talked about his rape and how it affected him, while running on a treadmill. And it was a comedy show and it won the biggest award in live comedy.
Richard gadd acting in that breakdown scene was so raw and heartbreaking to watch I really hope he gets Emmy consideration for his performance for this episode and honest,y throughout the show
Yeah that’d be a little… odd? To get an award for acting/reliving your own trauma for the audience to be entertained about your own personal trauma? Or rephrase: just odd to be given an award for having (probably) a real reaction to trauma you actually lived
Richard Gadd ate this episode. First in his confrontation with Martha at the bar then with that monologue. I hope he found some kind of catharsis retelling his story like that.
@@avamin.s It is her. What's fake about it is the majority of what she's saying in it. She tells a couple of big truths such as "she has never been convicted of any crime" that is why she is managing to sue netflix. But pretty much everything else she says in that interview is a compleate lie.
Let's hope some laws have been updated since this time period. Donny took so long to even go to the police and when he did, they weren't much help. It's no wonder so many don't seek help at all. 4:48
I still cannot believe how Police was even taken recordings seriously... Everyone knows you need consent to record someone, in other case it can't be used.
I think I'm in the minority but I don't find Teri's character all that likable. Maybe it's because for the majority of the time she's with Donny she doesn't know about the sexual assault...
