The missed story on this was Astudillo's excellent defensive move in catching what almost no other pitcher can get- a line drive up the middle to his left and then a zip throw to first base right on the money. It's a gold glove event right there. "The pitcher who can fool the batter from time to time needs a pat on the back" Rolllie Fingers
@@Noticerofthings I’m ok with him doing it. Twins are a division rival that the Sox own right now. If they don’t like it then use a real pitcher next time.
If you guys don’t like people swinging 3-0 then don’t throw a strike then it would be a guaranteed walk. Plus if he swing 3-0 you wouldn’t have a problem if he grounded out let them play the game.
@aaron michael they were down 11 runs before the home run... you would need 11 people to either get on base or hit solo home runs for that to happen which isn't going to happen
@aaron michael And then your team cuts you because some batter in AAA has an OBP one point above yours. If you're a hitter, and you have a chance to get on base, you take it. If you have a chance to smack a homer, you take that every time. If you don't, you'll be out of a job talking about unwritten rules on ESPN12--if you're lucky.
You're supposed to take the 3-0 pitch as a strike it's a unwritten rule that is usually upheld whenever it's a blowout game. Yes they were goofing around with them but still why home one off a ball that you know he's going to to follow baseball rules and hit it home. It just looks cheap like he's boosting his stats which is what he did basically but swinging on a 3-0
I don't care what the score is, what the count is, or who is pitching. The batter can swing whenever they want, especially if you throw a pitch like that. I knew he was going to get rocked eventually.
Right on. You play to win the game, you play to score. 15 - 4, 150 - 4. These color commentators are some of the reason why today's baseball has become so pansified
Absolutely. They want to rest their pitching staff. Don’t act like your being done a disservice when a professional baseball player tees off on the position player you threw out there. It’s not the other teams job to help you rest your pitching staff. They deserved to be punished and that’s what happened.
mlb should be happy he's pitching, since after all, dude wasted 2 seconds at most between pitches. they want pitchers to stop stalling, well, they finally found one.
I don't watch baseball but it didn't cross my mind he probably isn't a pitcher for his main position. I honestly just assumed that by Goodluck and networking he got to where he's at lol and just figured hey slow pitches work.
You know how much energy it takes to throw 90mph, I guess not I just don't see that working out I get that it needs to be sped up but thats a little much go take a baseball and throw it at a brick wall 30 times as hard as you can but only give yourself 5 secs in-between pitches and come back and let me know what ya think
@@kevo3985 Then, why don't they stop throwing 90 mph? If they decrease the wait time, then pitchers will be forced to throw slower balls and that's ok.
@WorldFlex not in a game where the other team is down by 11 so you know they are giving up by pitching a position player and he is throwing loopers instead of the 80+ that he can actually throw so he isn't even trying
@@herranton when you get paid based off your stats and how well you play yes you should. If you don’t wanna give up 450 ft moonshots don’t make your catcher pitch
the pitcher understands physics really well, he knows the difference of high caliber slow pitch and level changes that you just cant do in hard ball and he never lets the batter set right to be able to adjust for the throw... smarter not harder kind of player
3:50 announcers complaining about swinging on 3-0 count are hilarious: just before that they were talking about how efficient the pitcher is so many outs on so few pitches. You can brag about how great he is if the batters hands are tied.
Exactly why my kid is sticking to hockey. Kid busts his as for 15-20 years to play pro ball. Can't celebrate their home runs and can't try to score when the other team is losing🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
As a Twins fan, I have no problem at all with the guy slugging a homerun. When you're at 3-0 and the pitcher's throwing at around 45 mph, why not go for it? Who cares what the score is? A lot of teams look closely at the stats, and a lot of these players are fighting to hold onto a spot on the roster.
I think this dude just brought something to the MLB. Could start to see more slow pitching, just to throw off batters. Not to mention, save a few pitchers arms off of a no win situation.
HE did his job - it was the guys pitching for the other 15 runs that didn't do THEIRS! He threw what - 15 or 16 pitches for the season, for 6 outs and one home run? Worth watching!!
If they gave him a real start, it would expose things MLB/pitchers don't want exposed! Pitchers are extremely talented, but it's not incredibly hard to do what they do...and I would know, I once was a Double A/Triple A outfielder.
