Homelanders character is so complex and well written. He's so damaged, the way the actor portrays this is absolutely amazing. You can literally feel his emotions.

What's crazy is there was a scene where he was giving advice to his son about how he was scared when he was a kid and didn't know how to use his powers and for a brief moment it seems like he might be able to change. That laugh was the last shred of hope for him developing empathy towards others.

Butcher has balls of steal for holding himself together after that laugh.

I am genuinely impressed by Anthony Starr's skill. Would love to see him play more big villain and antihero roles.

This show proves you can write a villain that you can feel bad for and still hate with every fiber of your being and it’s honestly the best performance I have ever seen an actor make(Homelander) over my entire lifetime second only to Heath Ledger as the Joker

The acting in this scene is perfect. The kid playing looks terrified, the guy playing homelander delivers the psychotic demented mind of homelander just perfectly, and the guy playing butcher looks like he had missed emotions of anger, pain, and sadness. 10/10 show.

one thing i know for sure is that homelander truly cares for ryan.

Everybody talking about the amazing acting skills of Anthony Star (which I 100% agree with) but Butcher’s stare is what really sold the scene for me, he’s like: "I knew he was crazy, but not this level of crazy."

He said no and kept his posture because he knew if Homelander tried anything, Ryan, would never look at him the same.

The parallel from this to the last season is amazing, Ryan shamed for what he did by the only person he looked up to and accepted by the one he was raised to fear. I know Homelander is a killing machine, but you can tell he's missing something. The only thing he ever wanted was a normal life, but he was the "lucky" one born with powers, and marketed as a super hero. In the animated series you can see he wanted to be a hero, he wanted to truly be the superman style heros he read about, with heroic catch phrases like "the police will come to pick you up, now stay here" while baring a person around the neck, ultimately choking them. He's a character you can understand why he's "evil" from his 1st day alive, he was just "product" to be sold, and he eventually turned into what they wanted him to be.

Despite everything, I couldn't help but feel bad for him in this scene. Absolutely nailed this performance.

The pain of losing something he holds dear, the anger of betrayal, the child like hate of losing something he sees as his, while trying to plaster a smile on his face, the pain of watching the heartbeat of Ryans heartbeat. All the emotions just overwhelm him into a laugh but it’s written on his face and it’s just amazing.

My favourite part was the way butcher looked at ryan after becca died and picked up the crowbar, i was fr convinced he was bouta kill ryan but than i guess he got reminded that it was all homelander and ryan was a victim to homelander and he became protective instead. homelander laughing didnt get me too much it was the fact that his smile and frown was conflicted before hand, almost like he was trying to cover his emotions and it really stood out for me. Amazing acting from both actors.
