This game does a really good job of capturing the unsettling nature of both stalking and retail alike. Thankfully, Kevin is able to out-menace both rude customers and creepers.
Trying hard to do the things you need to do, but the whole time you can’t focus because you’re on edge and constantly looking for that person/car/whatever. They really did capture the feeling of being stalked so well. Also, the huge windows of the shop are terrifying haha. When I was dealing with something similar I could never ever leave a window uncovered for fear of being watched.
@@lemolea9571 that's true. I'm told I am attractive all the time by my mom and friends Even though I told them I think I am ugly and they keep saying for me to stop saying that and that I am beautiful and my mother says that's why my dad doesn't trust anybody around me and I did grow up afraid of people because of that. Because I was afraid of people will abduct me. Hold me for ransom or something. (I was also afraid they would act like my dad because my dad left a scar on my life but that's a story for another time) But then I started to think Why would someone want to abduct me? I'm worth nothing to them. But I'm still kind of afraid of being abducted. Man, I should be a story time animator. I mean since I leave these large comments at all since I go off on tangents
Yep I agree. I don't play horror games at all, I just enjoy watching them. To be fair the most amount I got scared this video was when he ran into that woman when he left his apartment...
I like how Kevin often doesn't notice weird things happening, like a milk trail just appearing, because he so often does weird stuff like trash his virtual work places for no reason
Sounds about right. A situation that could otherwise have been terrying becomes just a confusing annoyance, which doesnt really harm you, just wastes your time. You can always trust Kevin for that.
Kevin absolutely felt what this game is trying to make him feel, which is surprising for him, the anxiety that any stranger could be a threat is a real one for people who have been stalked, as well as just never really feeling safe, and Japan, where this takes place, stalking is a huge issue.
All things considered my stalkers were fairly harmless (physically at least) but I'm still pissed that it's stalkerS plural. And also it's a horrible feeling, looking over your shoulder all the time, not knowing how far they're willing to go.
@@fortheloveofketchup Truly, I'm someone who already is constantly looking over my shoulder and feeling anxious and unsafe, I can't even imagine if that feeling was justified.
Very true, I live in Tokyo and I have had stalking experience a few times, where people have known my schedule and arriving at home times, it’s very disturbing and uncomfortable. I changed apartment a few time due to this issue. The anxious feeling from this game is very close to the real feeling of being watched
But as a coffee lover, you don’t know how much I need you to make coffee for my incompetent ass. Thank you sir cozy looking frog, I truly appreciate your work.
and the fact that none of these customers are an exaggeration at all. ive dealt with every single one of these people at least once. stalkers, creepy men, annoying girls, impatient old people, people without shirts or shoes, people who come in and are nice to you then leave a giant mess behind
Worked closing shifts at Starbucks and can confirm that this is an authentic experience. The way customers appear out of nowhere and stare at you silently is real. The way the cars appear and disappear in the parking lot is real. The amount of drink and food waste is under exaggerated. The ridiculous orders are real. This is all scarily accurate.
There actually is a horror game based on retail! I dont wanna link it cause replying with links is always bad but there's a youtube video its called "Average Retail Shift POV - *Stressful Sounds* *Sensory Overload* [1080p]" by allshamnowow thats really good.
Having longer videos really messes me up because I literally plan my entire day around his videos and 15 to 20 minute videos were perfect for my lunch breaks at work
the longer videos are a very nice yet very jarring surprise. His last long video threw me off so much, about 45minutes in and i finally noticed, when the video felt like it was coming to an end but it just kept going.
I feel like it's important to bring up some of the many, many things that the protagonist did wrong when dealing with this kind of situation, just to help spread awareness. Keep in mind that I am not an expert or anything, so if any of these tips are wrong/outdated, please let me know in the comments! 1. Don't ignore news about local predators, especially when you work at a time/place that makes you vulnerable (i.e. closing shift) 2. If you suspect you are being stalked, notify a friend/family member and set up regular check-in times so if you are attacked they will know before too long 3. Check if anyone is following you home. If you think that you are being tailed, make 3 consecutive right turns. If they are still behind you, memorise the type of car/driver if you can and drive to the nearest police station 4. If you suspect they know where you live, have someone stay at your place with you for a while or go to someone else's house 5. Keep your phone and keys on you at all times. Rules be damned, your safety is more important 6. If you can, have someone stay with you for the duration of your shift so you are never left completely alone. If not, then if you feel you are in immediate danger, leave. Check outside first, and get to your car as quickly as possible, using a makeshift defense if possible 7. If you down your stalker, make sure they're gonna stay down. Drop a second brick, in this case. Don't turn your back until you know there is no way they can possibly get up again. It sounds cruel, but think of how many horror movie/game protagonists (this one included) could've survived if they'd made sure the guy was dead Stalking is a serious threat to your safety, so don't take it lightly! If I missed anything, please let me know, and as always stay safe!
If youre walking and think youre being followed call a feiend or family member and be LOUD about 'the creep following you', even if you cant call anyone act like you are NEVER GO TO A SECONDARY LOCATION If someone tries to get you in a car you fight back and dont get in even if they pull a knife or a gun, youre more likely to survive a gunshot or stab wound Be as gross as possible, spit on them, bleed on them, vomit on them, piss on them the grosser the better If you think someone else is being followed or harassed go up to them and pretend youre a friend/sister/ect it can save lives If youre a man and the person being followed is a woman its best to go right to the follower and be LOUD and ANNOYING long enough for her to get away (and maybe beat him up) Record your stalker stalking you, make notes keep a log Report it to the police because even tho they wont do shit at least its on record
Honestly, this hits close to home for me. I used to work as a barista in a grocery store. A customer who would hang around most of the day became very enamored with me. As an eighteen year old with him being extremely older, it was disturbing. He'd even find me when I swapped to a different area of the store with a completely different shift. It made me sick when I found out he on the sex offender registry as a pedo. There's something that I can say this pandemic was actually good for though, it made it so he couldn't just hang around. I'm so thankful for that.
I'm glad to see that Kevin is playing more horror games. He's much easier on my ears than Jacksepticeye and Markiplier, both of which are my usual go to for horror games.
If you want to watch someone who doesnt scream or in general react a lot i recommend watching john wolfe :) he makes horror game content and hes super chill
@@ewe2630 that's true. Personally, I rarely watch anything that has to do with horror but he is an exception because of his style 👍 And Kevin is just Kevin so yeah :D
Omg Kevin playing scary games is something I absolutely did not know I needed! Im excited to see what he does/think of the game; Chilla’s Art games are so good!

At the start of the video I thought this would be a "haha look at this ridiculously silly horror game" but damn this is actually a really well-made horror experience
Same. A lot of horror games are just gore or jump scares. I guess the stuff with monsters is way less scary to me than stuff that is completely possible and that does happen all the time. This one legit made me unsettled (and it seems to have gotten to Kevin too, so it did its job).
I love this game. I think I’ve watched around 4 people play it now and I’m always excited to see their reactions to the two main jumpscares!! The ones that I look for are the lady and her kid and the guy in the thumbnail who runs to the doors haha. Can’t wait to see if Kevin gets scared! 15:24 here’s the baby and mom jumpscare! 27:07 man comes out of the darkness and runs at us 32:53 thumbnail/closing sign jumpscare :) 36:55 btw Kevin most of those names are in Japanese since the game was originally a Japanese game! It looks like those are patreon supporters so it makes sense someone is big daddi lol
@@metakarp_ of course!! I’ll go and add one more jumpscare in there later when I get home. It’s when the lights are out and he’s locked in the back room for a long time 👌
@@MediumRareOpinions Agreed! we used to have bat stickers up and would just tape little paper xmas hats to them as xmas decorations- not really a big-on-christmas family lol
I hope Kevin knows how much he helps people. I have clinical depression and am in therapy for CPTSD. I've been watching Kevin for years and he always manages to make life a little easier by giving me a moment to smile or laugh or even just not focus on all the shite I have going on. I really hope the best for him.
@@CasuallyShadow CPTSD is complex post traumatic stress disorder! It's a more complex form of ptsd caused by repetitive or, and forgive me for using the word so much lol, complex trauma, especially in early childhood. Think things like repeated SA, ritualistic/rel1g0us abxse, constant and inescapable abxse of any kind, constant exposure to war, violence or natural disasters, etc etc. Thanks for asking so politely!
@@evilmikuplushie4603 Blessings be upon you, fellow Pickens Cul...er...Community member... ❤ cPTSD is so overlooked, even disbelieved. It really shouldn't be so hard to just be listened to, or understood. 💞
Love how well the long format suits these games, it's actually enough time to properly drag you in to what's going on. Thanks for all the entertainment Kevster!
This game looks EXACTLY like the nightmares I have after working at a café for 7 years, the general creepy ambience and bland colour palette are spot on 😭😭
@@KeeteleKeet Working at that café is what started my coffee addiction lmao, still can't get through a day without it 😭 the only thing I miss abt that job is all the free coffee
@@witchthief9735Oh, okay then I was curious if you still enjoy drinking coffee after working in a cafe for 7 years. Glad to hear you still like it. With most job, people end up hating on certain things overtime. I know someone who works at a cinema and dude no longer likes popcorn.
@@KeeteleKeet My parents have been driking coffee every morning for 30+ years, and they still love that thing. I can only drink it once or twice a week. Idk how they do it
@@KeeteleKeet well we did sell these french baguettes sliced halfway through and filled with different cold toppings. Took a while before I was able to eat those again lol... yeah I can imagine the smell of popcorn gets really sickening after a while, poor guy :/
Thank you so much for adding proper closed captioning onto your videos, it means a lot to your disabled audience. With my adhd I find it hard to focus on videos without captions and the youtube autogenerated ones can almost be worse than nothing. Plus, it's always a good thing to make your videos accessible to deaf viewers. Keep it up!
I 100% agree, without captions I can barely watch videos and if they’re wrong (frequent spelling mistakes or with inaccurate timing) I just straight up click off the video. Having proper captions is always a plus
This just proves Kevin can make anything seem brighter and more amusing just by being his peachy self. Given the subject matter I expected to be a lot more uncomfortable then I ended up being, and most of that was Kevin's charming defusing of the tone/setting. Cheers, lad.
I've had a customer hanging around looking at us for five hours straight and even taking pictures of us. As someone who's worked in a grocery store for nearly ten years, I must say that this is the most realistic, down to earth horror game I've ever seen and it captures the dreaded feeling of being stuck in retail SO WELL!
Not gonna lie. I could actually see Kevin as a Barista in one of those green Starbucks Aprons; taking orders, taking names and seeking potential recruits to the Community Of The Dear Leader. ☺️
Honestly the thing that kept me on edge most was the art style feeling like it was a VHS. Everything was so weird and janky that even just serving coffee felt threatening.
As someone who used to close a little yogurt store alone when I was a teenager, this was such a frequent nightmare of mine. It got to the point where my boyfriend would come and sit outside when it got to around midnight just to make sure I was okay… The terror is real, especially when you are alone.
Super late to comment, but I'm sorry who the FUCK is buying frozen yogurt at any hour after 9pm. Working for small businesses can be so fucking terrifying, they have little to no regard for your safety because legally they won't be held accountable, especially if you're off the books. Glad you had someone to look after you.
I do hope he plays more games from this developer, they are all very charming despite how cheap looking and glitchy they can be, they also rely only on jumpscares, but still engaging, like all the unresolved details such as the mother who lost her baby and was crying, they all create an uncomfortable feeling
The funny thing is that the cheap appearance seems to be very deliberate, because the amount of detail Chilla puts into their games is incredible. In the game they did that takes place in the subway train they filled the cars completely with original ads they designed themselves, and they all looked legit.
Yeah this one specifically is very grounded in reality and points out things that really happen to women who just exist in public spaces. Right down tot he police not doing anything or caring at all until its too late, People getting into your apartment when you aren't looking, and other terrifying stuff some of us we have had to endure.
i love how realistic kevins reaction to the power shutting off and being locked inside is, slowly inch towards the breaker box and then hide in the corner of the stockroom when that doesnt work.
I feel like Kevin playing horror games goes one of two ways. One, the antagonists see him being "normal" and decide to wait for a better target; or second, they see him struggling and figure he's having a rough time already.
Well that was fecking unnerving. I've never been stalked thankfully, but as a woman this hits a little too closely to home in regards to my paranoia towards the general public. Great quality video as always Kevin, but I might just have to give games like this a miss in future if you ever play anything similar.
Actually Kev, this game is part of an "series of games" made by the same indie company. This is one of other games, as weird and creepy as this one, with an overall arch involving demonical cults and serial killers, really dark and interesting, all the games are connected, but you can only tell by loose tips inside those games, you should really try them all out. I highly recommend. Also I'm pretty sure the MC on this game in particular is mentioned in others, I don't think it ended well for her, sadly.
I think the amount of anxiety Kevin experienced during the build up of this game is very similar to how women feel in society. We ALWAYS have that tiny voice that when we notice something weird it says, "stay alert and be prepared to run/harm."
I love that Kevin really buys into the whole horror element of this game but still keeps it light especially on the bus when the guy looks at him and being afraid to give his phone number away. The horror of being a girl simulator. Poor nervous Kevin! Loving these spooky and long-form videos!
"The real sense of unease" - yup, having huge reminders of being a small femme working retail with PTSD. "Does she make everyone smile the way she does me?" is that wonderful thing where a guy thinks the retail/service worker is being nice and smiling because they like them, rather than being nice and smiling because it's their job. I'll be having fun flashback dreams tonight!
The surprising accuracy to a Starbucks hot and cold bar is scary enough as is…this is a whole different kind of horror game for ex-baristas 😅 the amount of QASA violations Kev commits heals my soul tho 😂
I have wanted you to play this for so long, and I would love to see more of this type of game. Also, as a former barista, watching you struggle with the drinks was hilariously refreshing. It is so overwhelming at first.
at a buffet, i personally sneak corndogs into the buffet so others can enjoy them. I hide 6 corndogs in my jacket pockets. it then, is a joy for me to see other patrons of the establishment eat my corndogs thinking they were part of the buffet.
As a former Starbucks barista, this game is extremely accurate, down to the ingredients and structure of the drinks. Except, imagine way more customers for most of the shift and many more drinks, and no cheat board in the back. Oh, and if you get backed up, you will get chewed out by a deprived caffeine addict who expected his drink before the line in front of him.
This was actually better than modern horror movies. Love how creepy it got but it definitely shows what some people have to suffer through too, at least it's what I'd imagine. Exceptionally well done.
I love how in horror games Kevin is always trying to get a jumpstart on the events, trying to outmaneuver them, and being an all around a nuisance to the coding
I love the way Kevin plays horror games it’s so much easier on the ears than a typical screaming RU-vidr shtick it just makes the whole thing more fun Also can we take a minute to appreciate that when he initially figured out he had a stalker he instantly got that it was the guy you give the phone to at the start he is def smarter than we thought
i love It when i see a game that Manly has played and then Watch another youtuber play the same game and See the difference. I Much Prefer Manly For how calm he is. I Prefer Kevin for how Chaotic he gets
I love love the horror Kevin videos. Please do one for Visage! My friend (that lives on the other side of the country) and I have “movie nights” where we watch gameplay videos of horror games on RU-vid while in an Xbox party chat together. We’re both loving & busy mothers to multiple children but at night we have the need to scratch a thrill seeking itch. The horror genre fulfills that in small doses. We usually watch a no commentary playthrough from SHN and then always follow it up with a Kevin rendition, when available. We need more Kevin horror in our lives! We’re better mothers when we’ve filled our entertainment cup with a bit of Kevin, so, really, he’s just creating a brighter future for posterity through these videos.
Great video! Especially with the context that this is a drastic problem in south korea with a recent killing of a young woman by her stalker. The authorities talk the problem down and misogynist politicians try to worsen the problem to gain votes of people. Its great to see you play such games, since it can raise awareness and gives context about the terrible things the victims suffer from and still is entertaining!
For the record the writing is Japanese not Chinese, you can tell by the simpler characters like に or ニ versus 你 which has much more strokes to write :)
Having already seen the guys at Watcher playing this game, it is somehow both more stressful and more amusing to watch Kevin genuinely try to play it without knowing that he's going to die no matter what he does.
