and yeah, F1 drivers talk when they drive a lot, sometimes because of emotions but usually because their Engineer has a lot more information than the driver does. talking and driving fast is a very niche skill, but they can definitely do it as george russell has shown by commentating over a lap as he drove it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n7pYcNeUduo.html

11:53 to answer your question of do they still race in the rain the short answer is yes they have intermediate tires and full wet tires, but there is a point where the race directors will red flag the session effectively stopping it if the rain becomes a huge safety hazard. When they do race in the rain the cars move so much water it is really hard to see anyway.

It depends on the quantity of rain: if it's light to moderate, they race, if it's heavy and it's too dangerous the session is red-flagged, basically paused, waiting for conditions to improve, if they don't improve in a set time (2-3 hours normally) the race is canceled. Happened at Spa last year.

For many of these guys, English isn’t their first language so I’m always even more amazed that they’re driving at the speeds they are along with translating from their native language to English in their minds and speaking! I’m bilingual (Spanish & English). I’ve grown up with both languages. Spanish is even my first language but I’m stronger in English because of being raised in the U.S. I can’t imagine driving (including driving around other cars at incredible speeds) and having to translate English to Spanish.

1: F1 cars are Hybrids and all cars are powered by a turbocharged V6 with a electric motor to push over 1000HP or near that depending on the Power Unit and 2: Yes F1 does still race in the rain, they have 2 sets of tires to help the cars grip on wet tracks, one set is called intermediate and it’s used for light rain and the second set is called heavy wets which is used to heavy rain but there are some cases like Belgium 2021, where it rains so much and for a long period of time that they had to stop the race since it’s just to risky

The monotone voice you could hear often was Kim, the thing about the drink is water due to hydration, but he's also known to enjoy the other drink write a bit, even being one of the older guys he still takes in more than some of the younger guys. Driving in the rain is determined by the stewards (officials, like a ref or umpire), they watch the reports constantly the while race weekend, & wait to see what to do: whether they call the race off, wait to see if it passes over before starting, or if it gets bad during they well pull them off the track for a bit... All depending on how bad it actually gets, but unless it's torrential downpour they usually race in the wet (just like most other sorts on a pitch or court, think rugby, soccer, tennis, horseracing etc, if it's possible to actually play, they will) there have been a few "fun" races to watch when it has been heavy rain. The precaution is taken very seriously, as much as they never want to call of a race due to revenue, because there was a crash in the 70's at a dangerous track where the rain had stopped, & there was a debate as to whether it should still go on, they did, & Niki Lauda was in a horrendous crash where he nearly died, though equip has improved

10:10 Kimi is trying to ask if the electric motor that's pumping the bottle empty is running without the hose connected and spilling his drink all over the place. Races have a race time maximum of 2 hours and an event time maximum of 3 hours. The race clock get paused during red flag situations, which can happen because of a crash that requires marshals to enter the track or because of conditions making it unsafe to race. The event never lasts longer than 3 hours, regardless of red flags. This means some races can be cut short because of time restrictions, it happened last year at Spa, the weather was very bad for many hours they only did a few laps behind a safetycar to run at least the minimum amount of laps required for points to be alloted. So basically fans paid hundreds of dollars only to wait in the soaking rain for a lousy procession of slow driving cars, no race, no action, no refunds. You can imagine how well that goes down with folks.

I would say that not being able to see in the rain is common. There is still a point where its too dangerous, and the race director will pause the race. But even regular rain drives have extremely limited visibility and high danger. It usually makes things fun because all the cars and drivers behave differently so you get a mixed up finishing order.

10:38 Modern F1 cars use a hybrid engine, where they use the regular engine for the main power and the electric engine for a speed boost. The reason Lando is shouting that the engine is losing power here though is that something in the engine broke and the engine was no longer capable of generating torque, which drives the wheels.

They do drive in the rain, they have special tyres for it which can evacuate 23 galons of water per second per tyre at around 190mph. It is rare that a race is cancelled due to safety concerns (extreme weather), but it happens (once in Belgium last season, in Spa Francorchamps). This is because of the thight schedule and money invested in each race; cancelling is a really disastrous situation for FIA (F1 regulating body).

@greaper1976
@greaper1976 Год назад
Usually the race director will red flag the race if aquaplaning becomes an issue and cars slide off the track too easily, otherwise they tend to continue to race in the rain. If you want to see one of the best drives in the wet, there's a video called "Verstappen's Fightback: Onboard + Team Radio Unedited | 2016 Brazilian Grand Prix" that is well worth checking out (it also has a lot of radio chat)
@Lanes100
@Lanes100 Год назад
For stopping the race for a safety issue, there are a few ways this is handled: 1. Yellow flags in the section of track where the incident occurred (if its a crash) - Under a Yellow, no passing is allowed, and cars must proceed with caution, but can do that at full speed. 2. Virtual Safety Car - This forces all drivers to maintain a "Positive Delta", meaning that every driver must drive the same lap time (at a slow pace) for the duration of the VSC, meaning they all hold their current positions before Green flag (race restart). 3. Safety Car - Actual safety car comes out, rounds up the pack and sets a pace for the pack to follow while the track is secured. In this scenario, drivers can bunch up to each other so when the restart happens, any drivers in the lead by a lot of time will have a disadvantage as now their rival will be directly behind them at the restart. 4. Red Flag - If track conditions are so bad that there is a safety issue keeping the cars driving any longer, the FIA will issue a red flag, stopping the race. There is a rule that a race will never exceed a certain time limit, so if that time limit is exceeded the drivers will be placed in the order they were in when the red flag was first waved, and if the time is not exceeded, the race will restart and run until the time limit, not to the normally allotted lap amount. There actually was a red flag for rain at Monaco in 2022, as the track conditions were so wet that even the wet tires were not enough to keep any grip and it was too dangerous to drive as determined by the stewards, so they stopped the race and the race ended up being 20 laps less than originally planned due to time constraints.

I know I'm a year later, but I don't see anyone responding to 11:43, so here goes a proper answer and a meme-type answer: - Usually, races get paused. There's a maximum allotted time for a race, regardless of anything, it's like a clock that doesn't stop no matter what. I'm not sure if it's the same for all the races nor if it's 3 or 4h, but it's somewhere around that. Race ends once that threshold gets surpassed, no matter what. Cars could be behind a safety car, stopped in the pit lane during red flag, doesn't matter. So they wait it out and if there's still time, they resume the race. If, say, we have the 4h maximum allotted time for the race, they did 15 laps on a 60 lap race, started raining to the point where they paused it for like 2h30m and then resumed it again, race will probably not end at lap 60, it will most likely turn into a run the clock down type race. Could end in lap 40, lap 50, who knows. - Meme answer is, if the the green rimmed tires (intermediates) aren't good enough and the blue rimmed tires (wets, or extreme wets how they call it) are needed, there's no race.

The rain thing depends. In the old days rain before/at the start would get the race called off completely if too heavy. Otherwise they would race. Look up the Lauda/Hunt championship battle. Lauda crashed and burned alive (survived) in a rain race (the drivers had voted to drive), came back just 3 races later with burned face and lungs, then in the last race of the season in Japan it was raining that hard again but since they had for the first time sold TV rights around the whole globe, the race was driven. Lauda came back into the box after just 1 lap and got out of the car saying it's too dangerous to drive, so Hunt won the championship by 1 point that year. Nowadays the race start would be postponed (total time from the original start time can't be over 3 hours tho), if the weather would not clear enough for at least 75% of the race to be driven, the race would not start. If rain comes during the race, usually they drive, unless conditions get extreme (like Hockenheim back about 20 years when a lot of drivers crashed full speed into cars driving in front of them - since that race they have breaking lights on the cars), then they will have a red flag and try to wait out the heaviest rain. If conditions don't get better race will not be restarted. For this year they've developed a new tire that supposedly will disperse the rain from the ground better, so that they can see better when they are behind other cars. But let me tell you, I've raced in Go-Kart once in the rain and you can basically see nothing. And not just that, in each corner your inner side wheel will shoot a fountain of water directly in your face, so driving in the rain is absurd.
@Thunderbolt479
@Thunderbolt479 Год назад
Yep, normally when the conditions on the track are really bad (too much water on track, low visibility or huge crash), the session (free practice, qualifying or race) is red flagged, which means it's paused. At that moment, all the drivers go back to the pits. If the situation is fixed, the session is resumed. If the conditions worsens, the session is definitely stopped.

@zacharymichelfontelus-libu6569
Depending on the track the race will continue or not. But there are some types of heavy rain that the cars won't race or it will start with a safety car. It really depends on the track and how bad the rain actually is. This year a "moderate" amount of rain stopped the Monaco race because it's Monaco. If it was the Austria circuit or Imola it wouldn't have stopped.

Normally when the conditions become undrivable, they pause the race and resume it when the conditions improve. However: the maximum lenght of the event is 3 hours. If that time is over, they show a message saying: "Session will not resume." If they haven't completed half of the distance, drivers get half points. If they haven't completed two racing laps, drivers don't get points at all.

sometimes they stop in the rain. normally they pause if there is a big crash in the rain and see how the weather changes. sometimes it takes hours!

They do drive in the rain up until its too much. Pretty much race until its a heavy downpour. Even a little rain causes the car behind to see very little to nothing. The wet and intermediate tires have ratings on how much water they move and it is a crazy amount. The best way to dry a track is to actually have the F1 cars race on it. You should check out the new camera that they have that shoots video from inside the drivers helmet right beside their eye. It shows you exactly what the driver is seeing when looking through the helmet.

Yes they still drive in rain. They have the “brake lights” flash to show where the cars in front of them is

Most race series will race under some level of rain conditions. Depends on the series when and how they stop the race due to track conditions, but I've seen plenty where they waited maybe a little too long to red flag and cars are going sideways all over the place like it's ice spinning into each other off the track.

11:40 yes the race marshal will stop the race for temporarily if the rain stops and stop it permanently if the rain didn't stop for more or less than an hour and half and the race outcome is whoever in the position before the race is stopped and trust me guys, it's not a dumb question to ask cuz in some of the past races, the marshal just didn't stop the rain even when the driver can't see shit through their tight helmet (luckily they have this very great muscle memories of the track). Great content guys keep it up! We're very happy if you wanna get to know more bout f1!! (not that im a f1 expert by any means, just a regular fan of the sport that also learning bout the game more and more) Peace guys!🕊️ ✌️

To understand the concept of rain, kindly react to the tyres used to get a broader understanding. Technically you race in the rain but with a different set of tyres

Yes they do drive in the rain but if it gets too bad then they will either pause it or cancel it depending on how long it is predicted to last.
@sKlush
@sKlush Год назад
about the rain, if the conditions are really bad and they dont look that will improve the race MIGHT be cancelled, but most of the times they still race. They pause the event for a few minutes til it improves and then continue or, if the race has done 3/4 (not sure about this one, might be a lil longer) of the full race already they can stop it and give the trophy to the guy thats leading (and points to the ones behind)

Lando saying he was losing power wasn't electric, he can feel the engine losing power. And yes they race in heavy rain, and they will red flag and pause the race if there is too much standing water. Most of the time in the rain, the wet tires throw a lot of water in the air, so visibility is always a challenge. But that's what makes the rain so exciting. It's also an equalizer, because every driver has to be cautious. So it kind of equals out the performance and makes it a driver vs driver race, as opposed to a car vs car race like it is in the dry.

The race has a time limit, once the race starts they have 3 hours to finish. If they red flag the race due to weather, then they have until that 3 hour time limit is up, if they don't restart and they didn't complete half of the laps then they will be reward half points to the finishing order at the time the red flag comes out. If they are over half the laps complete then they get full points. If they resume than the run the full laps or until the time limit expires and then have one additional lap until the checkered flag.

10:37 they are Hybrid V6 1.6 litres with some sort of boost (ERS - energy recovery system) which give to drivers during the lap more power or during the overtakes he has button called overtake which gives them more power to offense or deffense move....and braking and going off throttle charge the battery and the ERS have more modes like charging qualy i dont know exactly how they call this modes And in the engine is too much componets where could be problem loosing power there....so there could be a problem in the engine itself or in other componets like these electric bu**sh*ts

Race continues in the rain unless it’s way to dangerous and visibility is extremely limited then it goes to a red flag which is a pause in the race then it resumes when the weather improves

F1 races usually suspended the session when heavy rain is happening. They will deploy a safety car (pace car) and all the drivers must slow down and follow the safety car with caution. The race directors, the safety car, and the drivers usually assessed and communicate with the team about the situation of the track like how hard is the rain, how's the visibility in front (how much can you see in front of you), and how many puddles of water built up in each corner of the track. After the rain is over, usually all the cars with the help of a safety car would go around the circuit (in racing condition, but at slow speed) trying to clear the puddles of water from the track by driving into it (of course with a wet/rain tires that have a groove on it so it would disperse the water to the side of the track as much as possible), then after deemed safe, the safety car will return to the pitlane and the racing resumed but with no DRS system (this system allow you to open half part of your rear wing on the straight if you're in a 1-second gap within the car in front; basically give you an extra of 10-15 kph of speed) until it deemed safe enough. The last year 2021 Belgium Grand Prix is actually the shortest race in F1 history because of heavy rain from the start of the race and I think all cars only did a total of 3 laps (behind the safety cars) to asses the situation from the original 44 laps. The session was stopped multiple times, but after almost 2,5 hours, the race directors deemed the condition of the track is not safe to race and the race is over. The winners and final race positions are determined by the qualification results (starting position) from the previous day. The official timing of the race only lasted around 3 minutes from the usual 2 hours. You can watch the highlight here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MjmywbEfzk0.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-86LShu2iIpI.html . It's funny because for those 2,5 hours we F1 fans just watch bored drivers and pit crews having fun with each other. Some sleep, some play a mini soccer game, and some sip coffee and eat it's actually refreshing haha.

they are also pulling 4gs of force and pushing buttons and chaning things on the wheel while driving too, and yes they do all of that in the rain, rarely stop because of rain unless the drivers vote for it. A lot of the clips being kimi is also understandable lol
